Noel Thomas helps Connecticut beat Houston

UConn handed Houston (No. 19 CFP, No. 13 AP) its first loss of the season while becoming bowl eligible for the first time in five years.

Pretty good day forNoel Thomas & Co.

No. 15 Houston looks Big 12-ready in 33-23 victory over OU
    [IMG]
Houston coach Tom Herman and the Cougars are past the point of proving they are for real.

Shocking the world is for the real underdogs and if a Power Five conference happens to take note of what Houston is doing that's fine.

    Whatever.

"We were prepared to win. We expected to win. We train to win," Herman said. "It wasn't about making a statement, it was about going 1-0 the first week of the season."

Greg Ward Jr., Brandon Wilson and the 15th-ranked Cougars looked every bit ready to compete in the Big 12 -- or any other conference for that matter -- in a 33-23 victory against No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday.

No. 6 Houston beats Lamar 42-0 in 6 hour, 18 minute game

About the only thing that slowed down the sixth-ranked Houston Cougars on Saturday was bad weather that led to a 3 1/2-hour delay.

The Cougars easily overcame the absence of injured quarterback Greg Ward Jr. as well as the marathon lightning delay for a 42-0 victory over Lamar.

Ward's TDs rally No. 6 Houston to 40-16 win over Cincinnati

Greg Ward Jr. threw an interception in the end zone. Cincinnati responded by going down the field, getting a touchdown and grabbing the lead and the momentum.

For the first time this season, No. 6 Houston was on the road and feeling the pressure. How would the Cougars respond?

Ward ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, and the Cougars' fabulous defense returned a couple of interceptions for touchdowns as they pulled away to a 40-16 victory over Cincinnati on Thursday night.

No. 6 Houston routs Texas State 64-3 to remain unbeaten

Had Houston's season gone as planned, D'Eriq Kingwould have spent Saturday night standing on the sideline as the Cougars' third-string quarterback.

Instead, King caught a touchdown pass, threw for a TD and returned a kickoff for another score and No. 6 Houston cruised to a 64-3 victory over Texas State to remain undefeated.

Ward had big game, No. 6 Houston beats UConn 42-14

The sixth-ranked Houston Cougars were determined to take care of business this year after Connecticut detailed their perfect season a year ago.

Greg Ward Jr. made sure they did just that.

Ward Jr. threw for a career-high 389 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in just more than three quarters to help Houston beat Connecticut 42-14 on Thursday night.

SMU stuns No. 11 Houston 38-16 by shutting down QB Greg Ward

A grim-faced Tom Herman could hear the whoops and hollers of SMU players as the Houston coached tried to explain a shocking 38-16 loss to the Mustangs on Saturday night.

Houston spoils Louisville's playoff hopes with 36-10 win

Louisville coach Bobby Petrino was blunt.

    "We blew it," he said.

Duke Catalon scored three touchdowns and Houston hurried and harassed Heisman favorite Lamar Jackson all night to propel the Cougars to a stunning 36-10 victory over the Cardinals on Thursday night that dashed the team's playoff hopes.

Amid Herman rumors, No. 20 Houston loses to Memphis

Amid all the very-public speculation about where he will be coaching his next game, Tom Herman still was able to motivate his Cougars.

He just didn't get the result he wanted.

In what might be the sought-after coach's final game with No. 20 Houston, Riley Ferguson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds left in a wild fourth quarter Friday to lift Memphis to a 48-44 win over the Cougars.

No. 25 Navy runs past SMU 75-31 for its 4th straight victory

Will Worth has become a dual threat in Navy's triple-option offense.

While the Midshipmen still stay mainly on the ground, Worth accounted for four touchdowns while becoming the first Navy quarterback with more than 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing in three consecutive games in a 75-31 victory at SMU on Saturday.

No. 19 S. Florida beats San Jose St. 42-22 after slow start

The start of the Charlie Strong era at South Florida didn't quite go as scripted. Now that it's over the coach of the 19th-ranked Bulls is actually pretty pleased that his team had to show the ability to overcome some adversity.

Quinton Flowers threw two touchdown passes and D'Ernest Johnsonhad two TD runs in a dominant second quarter that helped South Florida rally from an early 16-point deficit to beat San Jose State 42-22 on Saturday.

No. 19 USF overcomes slow start, beats Stony Brook 31-17

Charlie Strong insisted he knew No. 19 South Florida was in for a stern test against Stony Brook.

Now, his players realize the Seawolves love a challenge , too.

Quinton Flowers threw for 186 yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns, helping the Bulls shrug off a slow start to win their home opener under Strong, 31-17 on Saturday.
