Jerian Grant's 27 help Notre Dame edge No. 19 MSU in OT

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey believes he's got the best backcourt in the nation, and after Wednesday night, he might not get much of an argument from Michigan State counterpart Tom Izzo.

Jerian Grant and Demetrius Jackson had career nights to help the Fighting Irish defeat the No. 19 Spartans 79-78 in overtime in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Virginia drubs VCU to improve to 9-0 for first time since 2001-02

Virginia was locked in a tight one on the road. The Siegel Center was rocking, and VCU was turning up the pressure on the No. 7 Cavaliers.

Treveon Graham's third 3-pointer in a span of less than 2 minutes pulled the Rams to 59-55 with 6:51 to play, and Virginia coach Tony Bennett called a timeout to get his team back on track.

The Cavaliers listened, and then put away the Rams.

Justin Anderson scored 21 points, including a key 3-pointer in a late 15-0 run, and Virginia ended VCU's 22-game home winning streak with a 74-59 victory on Saturday.

Vasturia leads Irish in rout of Mount St. Mary's

For the past week and a half, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey has been urging sophomore guard Steve Vasturia to be more aggressive.

The message appears to have sunk in.

Vasturia scored a career-high 19 points Tuesday to lead No. 25 Notre Dame to a 93-67 win over Mount St. Mary's. Vasturia was perfect shooting the ball, hitting 7 of 7 from the floor, including three 3-pointers, and both his free throws.

No. 4 Louisville survives UNC Wilmington 68-57

Louisville coach Rick Pitino's postgame comments about his team's performance against UNC Wilmington were short and anything but sweet.

Cardinals junior forward Montrezl Harrell was more pointed voicing his frustration with teammates' effort after a victory that was harder than it should have been against a Seahawks squad given little chance of hanging with Louisville.

"When the ball was tipped up, UNC Wilmington wasn't going to lay down for us," the preseason All-American said after he and guard Terry Rozier each scored 19 points and played big roles down the stretch to help No. 4 Louisville survive with a 68-57 victory Sunday night.

No. 24 Tar Heels beat Spartans 79-56

North Carolina is still trying to sort out what kind of team it can be. That's why coach Roy Williams is eager to get his team back on the practice court after a busy first half of December.

Kennedy Meeks scored 18 points to help No. 24 North Carolina beat UNC Greensboro 79-56 on Tuesday night, capping a stretch of four games and limited practice time due to exams in the past two weeks.

ke says forward Semi Ojeleye is leaving the program.

School officials said Sunday that Ojeleye received a full release and is expected to transfer to another Division I school. Ojeleye is a 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward from Ottawa, Kansas, who averaged three points and 2.3 rebounds in six games for the second-ranked Blue Devils (8-0).

No. 2 Duke turns back UConn with Coach K hot under collar

Two possessions into the second half, Mike Krzyzewski had seen more than enough from his young and talented Duke team and let them know it in forceful terms that any young man would understand.

After hollering at his second-ranked Blue Devils to get over to the bench, Coach K asked them what was wrong and then told them to wake up, throwing in an occasional salty word.

While the tirade didn't sink in immediately, Duke (10-0) got the message.

Freshman point guard Tyus Jones scored 21 points, Justise Winslow hit two key baskets late in the game and Duke beat defending national champion Connecticut 66-56 on Thursday night.

Justin Anderson leads No. 6 Virginia over Cleveland State

Justin Anderson's eyes lit up at the thought that No. 6 Virginia held Cleveland State scoreless for more than 10 minutes.

"That was super sick," Anderson said of the first-half stretch in the Cavaliers' 70-54 victory on Thursday night. "If we can ask ourselves to do that throughout the whole game, I think this team can go to another level defensively."

Louisville holds off Western Kentucky behind Terry Rozier's 32 points

Montrezl Harrell's sudden meltdown appeared costly for fourth-ranked Louisville until Terry Rozier stepped up to provide composure for the Cardinals.

Not to mention some timely baskets and a career-high 32 points.

Rozier took charge after the first-half ejection of Montrezl Harrell to score 26 points in the second half and lead the Cardinals past Western Kentucky 76-67 on Saturday.

Playing in Michael Jordan's longtime home is a big deal for North Carolina, and the Tar Heels honored their most famous basketball alum with a winning performance.

Brice Johnson had 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting, and No. 24 North Carolina used its stout defense to hold off No. 12 Ohio State for an 82-74 victory Saturday.
