Britt helps No. 1 UNC beat Fairfield 92-65 in home opener

Nate Britt is off to a good start for top-ranked North Carolina's injury-hit backcourt, probably the best news in an otherwise frustrating home opener for Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams.

Britt matched his career high with 17 points and the Tar Heels gradually pulled away in the second half to beat Fairfield 92-65 on Sunday.

Jackson, Beachem big for No. 18 Notre Dame

Notre Dame's opponents are quickly learning that, when Demetrius Jackson goes to the hoop, look out below.

The 6-foot-1 Jackson supplied the wow-factor highlight in No. 18 Notre Dame's 86-78 win Tuesday night over Milwaukee when he drove the baseline in the second half and threw down a one-handed dunk over 6-10 forward J.J. Panoske.

Gill, Brogdon power No. 6 Virginia to 82-57 win

Virginia coach Tony Bennett lost his voice at practice this week after his team lost at George Washington. He'll take if the sixth-ranked Cavaliers keep playing like this.

Anthony Gill scored 16 points, Malcolm Brogdon had 13 and the Cavaliers overcame a slow start to power past Bradley 82-57 on Thursday night in the Charleston Classic.

Shayok, Perrantes help No. 6 Virginia to 87-52 victory

Virginia coach Tony Bennett was simply looking for small steps forward at the Charleston Classic. His sixth-ranked Cavaliers have showed much more.

Marial Shayok had a career-high 17 points, London Perrantes added 15 and Virginia powered past an opponent for the second straight game to reach the tournament final with an 87-52 victory over Long Beach State on Friday night.

Grayson Allen's career night leads No. 5 Duke past VCU in 2K Classic

Grayson Allen didn't wait very long to bounce back from an off night. It took one game.

Just three days after a rough performance against No. 2 Kentucky, Duke's sophomore guard came up with a career-high 30 points as the fifth-ranked Blue Devils beat TCU 79-71 on Friday night in the opening round of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Miami rolls past No. 16 Utah 90-66 in Puerto Rico Tipoff

Two games into the Puerto Rico Tipoff, Miami's veteran bunch is knocking down shots, converting turnovers into important baskets and romping to blowout victories with ease.

Sheldon McClellan scored 27 points to help the Hurricanes roll past No. 16 Utah 90-66 on Friday night, sending them on to the championship round.

Auguste leads No. 18 Notre Dame past UMass Lowell 83-57

Notre Dame forward Zach Auguste didn't have to look hard to find an edge against UMass Lowell on Saturday.

A choice matchup against a school Auguste estimated was, "about 17 minutes from my house," in Marlborough, Mass., was enough to get the 6-foot-10 forward fired up.

With no River Hawk taller than 6-foot-8 to challenge him in the post, Auguste dominated, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in No. 18 Notre Dame's 83-57 victory.

No. 9 Tar Heels beat Northwestern 80-69 in CBE Classic semis

North Carolina coach Roy Williams treats every defeat a little bit differently, taking into account the opponent, the situation, things that might be going on in school or in life.

How was Williams after the Tar Heels' loss to Northern Iowa over the weekend?

"I was ticked off," he said after an 80-69 bounce-back win over Northwestern on Monday night in the CBE Classic semifinals. "I wasn't going to treat them with kid gloves. We screwed it up."

They certainly didn't do that against the Wildcats.

Justin Jackson had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead a balanced effort for the ninth-ranked Tar Heels, who tumbled from their top spot in the AP poll after that 71-67 loss to the Panthers.

Bryant Crawford layup caps late 9-2 run as Wake Forest upsets Indiana

Bryant Crawford and Devin Thomas were having success going to the basket, and Wake Forest advanced to the semifinals of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational because of that.

Crawford, a freshman point guard, made a driving layup with 3.2 seconds to play to give Wake Forest the lead, and the Demon Deacons beat No. 13 Indiana 82-78 on Monday in the opening round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

No. 9 Tar Heels use late surge to down Kansas State, 80-70

North Carolina coach Roy Williams runs a drill in practice designed to mimic exactly what the Tar Heels faced against Kansas State, an eight-point deficit in the closing minutes.

Those practices rarely end as perfectly as the game did Tuesday night.

Justin Jackson scored 22 points and Kennedy Meeks added 15 as ninth-ranked North Carolina ripped off a 21-3 finishing run to beat the Wildcats 80-70 in the CBE Classic championship game.

Barber helps NC State beat No. 22 LSU 83-72 in OT

North Carolina State had a two-part plan Tuesday night: clog the lane defensively against star freshman Ben Simmons and get a win.

    The Wolfpack succeeded at both.

Anthony "Cat" Barber scored 12 of his 20 points at the foul line and the Wolfpack held Simmons to four points in an 83-72 overtime victory over No. 22 LSU in the consolation game of the Legends Classic.

Ingram scores 15, leads No. 6 Duke past pesky Yale 80-61

When No. 6 Duke needed a spark, the Blue Devils asked their longest, most athletic freshman to spread his arms on defense and create some havoc.

Brandon Ingram scored 15 points and played a key role in the defensive switch that helped Duke pull away and beat Yale 80-61 on Wednesday night.

Late push lifts Syracuse past No. 25 Texas A&M, 74-67

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim doesn't hand out compliments lightly.

He gave his team a big one after their performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis championship game.

"This was a great tournament for us. I don't think we've ever gone through a tournament where we've been the underdog for two straight games," he said. "So this might be one of our better wins."

Michael Gbinije had 20 points, Malachi Richardson added 16 and the Orange held off No. 25 Texas A&M 74-67 on Friday. It is Syracuse's first early season tournament title since the Orange won the 2013 Maui Invitational.

No. 6 Duke beats Utah State 85-52 for 4th straight win

Luke Kennard stayed confident as he wrestled with his shot to start his Duke career. He put up plenty of extra shots after practice. He talked with coaches, who promised "it'll come."

He started connecting Sunday, playing with an assertive productivity that thrilled his Hall of Fame coach.

Kennard had the best game of his young career, scoring 22 points to help No. 6 Duke beat Utah State 85-52.

Marcus Paige scores 20 in return to lift No. 9 UNC past No. 2 Maryland

Marcus Paige spent the first six games watching from the sideline as his North Carolina teammates had to figure out how to play without their injured floor leader.

His debut Tuesday night made the ninth-ranked Tar Heels look more like the team everyone expected to see.

The senior scored 20 points to help UNC beat No. 2 Maryland 89-81 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, showing no ill effects from the broken bone in his right hand nor rust from the layoff.

No. 8 Virginia outlasts No. 12 Villanova

London Perrantes heard all the pregame talk about No. 8 Virginia's matchup with No. 12 Villanova being a showdown of guards.

And he did what he does with most of the hype he encounters as the Cavaliers go about their business: He ignored it.

"We just wanted to win the game. We didn't want to make a statement," Perrantes said after scoring 15 of his 19 points in the second half as Virginia (9-1) used a 14-0 run to take command and then pulled away from the Wildcats for an 86-75 victory on Saturday.
