Re: Krzyzewski: ACC ought to think big

Athlon 2013-14 College Basketball Conference Snapshot:
    ACC

Who's gone and who's back in the ACC for 2013-14

    1. DUKE (30-6, 14-4 ACC, NCAA Elite Eight)
Key players gone: Seth Curry, Ryan Kelly, Mason Plumlee
Top returners: Quinn Cook, Andre Dawkins, Amile Jefferson, Marshall Plumlee, Rasheed Sulaimon, Tyler Thornton
New faces: Rodney Hood (Mississippi State transfer), Matt Jones, Semi Ojeleye, Jabari Parker (freshmen)
The losses of Curry, Kelly and Plumlee are huge, but Duke will be fine. The backcourt will be among the deepest in the country. Sulaimon stood out on the defensive end and proved capable of carrying the scoring load. Cook was second in the ACC in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. The freshman Parker, a 6-8 wing, will add some versatility to the lineup. Hood averaged 10.3 points at Mississippi State in 2011-12, and Dawkins averaged better than eight points per game in each of his last two seasons before sitting out in 2012-13.

Basketball and Baseball may be the hidden keys to starting the ACC Network.

It’s going to take time for an ACC network to get off the ground, but I do believe it will happen. I don’t have any reason to think otherwise at the moment. Gradually information is being released that looks favorably on the content the ACC can offer such a network. We always think in terms of football, but in the course of a year football will make up only a small percentage of a network’s programming. A network may show 50 football games in a year.

Swofford, Gross call holding ACC basketball tournament in New York a real possibility
    [IMG]

The ACC is committed to holding its annual affair in Greensboro through 2015.
Speculation has swirled since the ACC announced it would add Syracuse, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and eventually Louisville that the ACC would eventually claim New York for its basketball tournament. And in separate conversations, ACC Commissioner John Swofford and Gross made the possibility seem likely.

"New York is obviously such a media capital of the world, a great and fertile recruiting ground and a true college basketball mecca," Swofford said. "So I think we would be short-sighted and foolish not to give New York City every consideration as we look toward the future of our tournament."

    P.J. Hairston charges dropped

Charges resulting from an early June arrest of North Carolina Tar Heels leading scorer P.J. Hairston have been dismissed, according to a Durham, N.C., court clerk.

Hairston produced proof he had a driver's license and had completed a drug assessment program

P.J. Hairston to miss some games

Despite multiple off-court issues in the past few months, North Carolina swingman P.J. Hairston is expected to be back in uniform this season.

One day after coach Roy Williams told reporters he was tired of talking about his leading returning scorer, North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham told a group of professors at a faculty retreat that Hairston would play this season, "but not all the games."
