    Jerome's 31 lead No. 9 Virginia past BC, 59-58

Ty Jerome has said all along that his confidence remained high, even when his shot wasn't falling.

Now that it is falling, he's given No. 9 Virginia another offensive weapon for opponents to worry about.

Jerome hit 6 of 9 3-point tries and scored a career-high 31 points, including two free throws with 53 seconds left, as the Cavaliers held off Boston College 59-58 on Saturday.

No. 13 UNC holds off Wake Forest 73-69 in ACC opener

North Carolina survived its Atlantic Coast Conference opener, buoyed by the big late-game shot from Joel Berry II and the veteran experience from last year's national title run.

And yet, the 13th-ranked Tar Heels all know they have to play much better if they want to keep winning in league play.

Berry hit a high-arcing floater in the paint with 10.3 seconds left and UNC closed the game on an 8-0 run to rally past Wake Forest 73-69 on Saturday, barely avoiding its first league-opening loss at home since January 2009.

No. 15 Miami overwhelms Pitt 67-53 in ACC opener

Anthony Lawrence II doesn't get homesick much. The way the athletic and versatile Miami forward figures it, the schedule makers can send the 15th-ranked Hurricanes wherever they please. The more nights in a hotel, the better.

"I love to play on the road because it's a better crowd and the crowd's against us," Lawrence said. "We play better."

    Looks like it.

Lawrence finished with a team-high 12 points and Miami smothered Pittsburgh when it mattered in a 67-53 victory on Saturday in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both schools.

No. 24 Florida State survives against No. 12 North Carolina

It ended up being a day and evening for Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton and his team to gut things out.

Hamilton had surgery to remove kidney stones Wednesday morning. Less than 12 hours later he was on the sidelines as his 24th-ranked Seminoles held on for an 81-80 victory over No. 12 North Carolina.

Hunter's 14 leads No. 8 Virginia past Virginia Tech, 78-52

De'Andre Hunter said it was all about the first shot.

As one of the first players off the bench for No. 8 Virginia at Virginia Tech on Wednesday night, the freshman made a 3-pointer to give the Cavaliers a 21-12 lead. He went on to score 14 points, leading a balanced offense and a smothering defense as the Cavaliers rolled to a 78-52 victory.

Grantham' 23 points, 14 boards helps No. 25 Clemson beat BC

Clemson came onto the court with a national ranking for the first time in nearly eight years and completely controlled Boston College in the opening half.

In the second, they made just enough plays to hold off the Eagles.

Donte Grantham scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Marcquise Reedhit two key free throws to help No. 25 Clemson beat Boston College 74-70 on Wednesday night.

NC State tops No. 2 Duke 96-85 for 1st ACC win under Keatts

North Carolina State coach Kevin Keatts saw his team respond to a pair of double-digit Atlantic Coast Conference losses with a fearless style and aggressive play. And for the second time this season, it was good enough for the Wolfpack to take down the nation's No. 2-ranked team -- this time instate neighbor Duke.

Omer Yurtseven had 16 points while Torin Dorn hit two huge 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes to help N.C. State upset the Blue Devils 96-85 on Saturday night, giving the Wolfpack's first-year coach his first league win.

Reed's 24 leads No. 25 Clemson to OT win over Louisville

A tough defense, an offense that makes key shots and an experienced starting five coach Brad Brownell trusts.

Clemson is playing some of its best basketball in many years.

Marcquise Reed scored 24 points and had a career-high five steals -- two in overtime -- to lead No. 25 Clemson to a 74-69 win over Louisville on Saturday.

Freshman Lykes helps No. 15 Miami beat No. 24 FSU 80-74

Not even a smack in the nose could stop 5-foot-7 Miami Hurricanes guard Chris Lykes against Florida State.

The freshman dynamo scored a season-high 18 points and shook off an accidental blow to the face, helping the No. 15 Hurricanes withstand a late rally from the No. 24 Seminoles to win 80-74 on Sunday.

Maye's huge night helps No. 20 UNC top Boston College 96-66

North Carolina coach Roy Williams has repeatedly offered his 20th-ranked Tar Heels a simple deal if they want to play long stretches in a small lineup.

Rebound. Defend. And he'll stick with it.

Luke Maye had career highs of 32 points and 18 rebounds while North Carolina's small unit got off to a fast start in a 96-66 win against Boston College on Tuesday night, snapping a two-game skid.

Louisville snaps No. 23 FSU's 28-game home win streak

Louisville got off to a slow start on the road against Florida State for the second straight year. This time though it was able to overcome it.

The Cardinals trailed by nine points 2 minutes into Wednesday night's game against the 23rd-ranked Seminoles and were down by 13 at halftime before rallying for a 73-69 victory, which snapped FSU's 28-game home winning streak.

No. 7 Duke bounces back with 87-52 win over Pitt

Mike Krzyzewski knows he doesn't have a lot of time to pack in a full college career's worth of lessons on his supremely talented freshmen-laden roster. The Duke coach knows he's got six months. Tops.

So after watching the seventh-ranked Blue Devils look disjointed and disinterested defensively in an upset loss at North Carolina State last weekend, Krzyzewski basically locked his team in the gym and forced them to get serious at both ends of the court, not just the fun half.

The early results were promising, even against an overmatched opponent. Marvin Bagley III scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Duke held Pittsburgh to 33 percent shooting in an 87-52 victory on Wednesday night. Trevon Duval and Gary Trent Jr. added 14 points each for the Blue Devils, who had six players finish in double figures.

NC State upsets No. 19 Clemson 78-77 on DeVoe's missed FT

North Carolina State seemed headed for overtime, quite possibly destined for its first agonizing collapse under new coach Kevin Keatts.

Then Gabe DeVoe missed the game's most important free throw -- and the Wolfpack escaped with a second straight Top 25 upset.

Omer Yurtseven scored a career-high 29 points, and N.C. State held on to beat No. 19 Clemson 78-77 on Thursday night after DeVoe missed the third of three free throws with 0.2 seconds left that would have forced OT.

Without a sick Coach K, No. 7 Duke beats Wake Forest 89-71

A virus kept Mike Krzyzewski from coaching No. 7 Duke. Guard Gary Trent Jr. spent most of a timeout with his head over a bucket.

Even without Coach K, the Blue Devils came away from another Wake Forest game feeling pretty good.

Marvin Bagley III had 30 points and 11 rebounds, and Duke beat the Demon Deacons 89-71 on Saturday in a game the Hall of Fame coach missed.

Grantham leads No. 19 Tigers to 72-63 win over No. 18 Canes

Clemson coach Brad Brownell had a simple plan at the only practice before facing No. 18 Miami -- don't shoot at all.

"We didn't shoot one free throw. We didn't shoot one shot," Brownell explained. "We didn't do anything."

Turns out, it was just what the 19th-ranked Tigers needed to outlast the Hurricanes 72-63 on Saturday.

Berry's free throws lift No. 20 North Carolina past ND

Roy Williams wasn't concerned about style points after No. 20 North Carolina beat Notre Dame for its first Atlantic Coast Conference road victory of the season.

"I feel the luckiest I've ever felt after the last minute of a basketball game," Williams said after the 69-68 victory Saturday night. "Joel Berry gets fouled and makes two free throws when you're down one. My frustration button is at a very high level right now."

Hall's 25 lead No. 3 Virginia past NC State 68-51

Virginia's lead was still 11, but North Carolina State was trying to rally and a sense of unease was growing at John Paul Jones Arena. There were eight minutes to play, and the Wolfpack were on an 11-2 run.

For Devon Hall, that meant time to do something.

He got the ball on the right baseline, drove hard and laid it in. Thirty seconds later, after a turnover, he scored on another drive, was fouled and converted the three-point play, allowing the third-ranked Cavaliers to feel a little better, up 52-36, in a 68-51 victory Sunday night.
