Trent's 30 helps No. 5 Duke rally past Miami 83-75

Duke's comeback began with a 3-pointer from the corner by Gary Trent Jr.

On the next possession, Trent scored from the same spot. He was just getting going, and so were the Blue Devils.

The freshman guard scored a season-high 30 points and No. 5-ranked Duke needed less than three minutes to erase a 13-point second-half deficit, scoring 18 consecutive points to overtake No. 25 Miami 83-75 on Monday night.

No. 15 North Carolina holds off No. 20 Clemson 87-79

Cameron Johnson never let himself fret about the outside shot that had seemingly abandoned him in his brief North Carolina career. It's a big reason why the 15th-ranked Tar Heels still have their unblemished all-time home record against Clemson.

The Pittsburgh graduate transfer broke loose for a season-high 21 points, helping UNC hold off the 20th-ranked Tigers 87-79 on Tuesday night to improve to 59-0 at home in the series.

Hunter scores 17 points, No. 2 Virginia beats Ga Tech 64-48

Virginia got off to a sluggish start offensively.

Fortunately for the Cavaliers, their defense never takes a night off.

De'Andre Hunter came off the bench to score 17 points and No. 2 Virginia turned in another defensive masterpiece Thursday, stretching its winning streak to nine in a row with a 64-48 victory over Georgia Tech.

No. 5 Duke rolls past Pittsburgh 81-54 for 4th straight win

Grayson Allen stepped confidently into the 3-point shot near the Duke bench and let it fly -- only to see the ball go halfway down and then roll out of the rim. The senior could only chuckle.

It's close, he figures. Don't change anything.

That much was clear during the fifth-ranked Blue Devils' 81-54 win against Pittsburgh on Saturday. Allen scored 16 points in the rout, his best output since the start of the 2018 calendar year and a sign that maybe -- just maybe -- Allen is nearing the end of this monthlong rebellion by his suddenly wayward shot.

DeVoe leads No. 20 Clemson to 67-58 win over Irish

    - Notre Dame coach Mike Brey believes his program had been perfect against Clemson because during the crucial stretches, it was the Fighting Irish who made the biggest plays.

"Tonight, they made plays," Brey said after No. 20 Clemson beat Notre Dame for the first time, 67-58 on Saturday.

No. 25 Miami holds off NC State 86-81 for ACC road win

Miami coach Jim Larranaga and his staff spent recent practices pushing his players to whip the ball around the perimeter, keep things moving and set up each other for good looks.

    The results looked pretty good.

Bruce Brown Jr. scored 19 points and No. 25 Miami shot 58 percent to hold off North Carolina State 86-81 on Sunday, turning in its best offensive output since November.

Guy, No. 2 Virginia pull away to beat Wake 59-49

Points are always at a premium in No. 2 Virginia's low-scoring games. So when the Cavaliers finally found their way to the free-throw line after halftime, they cashed in on those freebies -- and sidestepped Wake Forest's upset bid.

Kyle Guy scored 17 points, and Virginia beat the Demon Deacons 59-49 on Sunday night for its 10th straight win.

    Robinson's 19 lead Hokies past No. 10 UNC, 80-69

Kerry Blackshear Jr. called Virginia Tech's game against No. 10 North Carolina a "really big character test," coming on the heels of a loss at home against Florida State.

That was a game, Blackshear said, in which the Hokies "really didn't just come to play."

They passed this test with flying colors.

Justin Robinson scored 19 points, Ahmed Hill had 18 and the Hokies pulled away in the second half to beat the Tar Heels 80-69 on Monday night.

No. 4 Duke forces 21 turnovers, beats Wake Forest 84-70

No. 4 Duke hounded Wake Forest's guards, forced turnovers and turned them into easy baskets. With the occasionally maligned defense playing like this, there was no chance of a letdown or a look-ahead.

The Blue Devils forced 21 turnovers in Tuesday night's 84-70 victory over the Demon Deacons.

Virginia makes strong statement with rare win at Duke

Kyle Guy knows he’ll hear it, whether on social media or even from the mainstream media. In fact, the win in arguably the most difficult venue in college basketball against a Duke team that could have a handful of future NBA players probably will trigger even more animosity.

But Guy could only smile after Virginia’s victory over the Blue Devils, and why not? He knows just about every team in the country would gladly switch places with the Cavaliers and their 20-1 record, 9-0 conference mark and a three-game lead in the ACC.

“An ugly win is a win,” Virginia’s sophomore guard said Saturday after the 65-63 win at Cameron Indoor Stadium. “We just beat a very, very talented team in a very hard environment.”

DeVoe, Reed help No. 18 Clemson hold off Georgia Tech

Marcquise Reed saw the matchup he wanted and drove to the basket.

The senior guard felt confident making the turn near the baseline, getting just the space he needed to beat a power forward to the rim.

"I had a four-man on me and just tried to make a play," Reed said. "If there's a four-man on me, I'm going to drive it."

Gabe DeVoe scored a career-high 25 points, Reed hit a decisive layup in the closing seconds and No. 18 Clemson held off Georgia Tech 72-70 on Sunday night.

Reed leads No. 20 Clemson to 82-78 win over No. 19 UNC

Gabe DeVoe had one thought when the game ended and Clemson fans poured onto the court to celebrate the Tigers' first win over North Carolina in eight years.

"I was just trying to get out of the way," DeVoe said with a smile after Clemson's 82-78 victory Tuesday night.

Guy, Jerome lead No. 2 Virginia past Louisville, 74-64

A subpar night for Virginia's normally stingy defense didn't get in the way of the second-ranked Cavaliers' 13th straight victory.

Kyle Guy scored 22 points and Ty Jerome hit two big 3-pointers to stall a rally by hot-shooting Louisville in the closing minutes as Virginia padded its lead in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 74-64 win Wednesday night.

Hunter, Guy lead No. 2 Virginia over Syracuse, 59-44

Call Virginia's Pack-Line defense impenetrable. You'll get no argument from Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim.

De'Andre Hunter scored 15 points, Kyle Guy added 14 and the 2nd-ranked Cavaliers smothered struggling Syracuse 59-44 on Saturday. The 44 points were the Orange's fewest since the Carrier Dome opened in 1980, another feather in the cap for the best defense in the nation.

No. 19 North Carolina ends 3-game skid, beating Pitt 96-65

North Carolina finally got its offense -- and maybe its confidence -- going again.

Luke Maye scored 26 points to help the 19th-ranked Tar Heels beat Pittsburgh 96-65 on Saturday night, ending their first three-game losing streak in four years.

DeVoe leads No. 20 Clemson past Wake Forest 75-67

The 20th-ranked Clemson Tigers needed to protect a pair of foul-plagued defenders from the whistles, and had to cool down the Wake Forest shooters who kept their team in the game.

Coach Brad Brownell's little-used zone defense accomplished both things.

Gabe DeVoe scored 24 points and Clemson beat Wake Forest 75-67 on Saturday.

No. 2 Virginia rallies in second half, stays unbeaten in ACC

Virginia's Tony Bennett realizes his team has a huge target on its back. His second-ranked Cavaliers dodged a big upset Wednesday night, rallying in the second half to beat Florida State 59-55 and remain unbeaten in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
