Outlaw helps No. 10 Hokies down Fighting Irish, 81-66

Ty Outlaw hit the first 3-pointer, and it became his turn to carry the No. 10 Hokies in a game when four guys took turns.

"He fuels me and we feed off each other," Outlaw said of Ahmed Hill, who made consecutive baskets before Outlaw's first 3-pointer from the corner, right in front of the Virginia Tech bench, splashed through in an 81-66 victory against Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Johnson's 20 helps No. 18 NC State rally past Miami 87-82

Thanks to a big finish, the North Carolina State Wolfpack are off to a start that draws comparisons to their first national championship season.

Reserve Markell Johnson scored 20 points and the No. 18 Wolfpack shot 57 percent in the second half to rally past Miami 87-82 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams Thursday.

Williamson leads No. 1 Duke past Clemson 87-68 in ACC opener

Zion Williamson took two dribbles in the open court, and inspiration struck: This was the perfect time to show off his 360-degree dunk.

In a freshman season full of highlight-reel plays for No. 1 Duke, this one might have been the most breathtaking.

"I said, `You know what? I'm wide open. Why not?" Williamson said. "I did it, got high enough and it was almost like a layup."

Williamson had 25 points and 10 rebounds in addition to that spectacular dunk, and the Blue Devils beat Clemson 87-68 on Saturday night in their Atlantic Coast Conference opener.

Virginia Tech tops Boston College 77-66 for 8th straight win

For only the second time this season, Virginia Tech found itself in an unfamiliar situation -- trailing an opponent at halftime.

And for the second time this season, the veteran-laden Hokies refused to panic.

Getting a game-high 25 points from Nickeil Alexander-Walker, No. 10 Virginia Tech rallied in the second half to register a 77-66 victory over Boston College on Saturday.

Cam Johnson scores 15 points, No. 15 UNC tops Pitt 85-60

North Carolina forward Cameron Johnson knew the boos were coming. Expected them actually. It's part of the deal when you leave one school for another. So when the Pittsburgh's "Oakland Zoo" student section politely let the former Panther have it during pregame introductions on Saturday, he took it as a bit of a compliment.

"No hard feelings on my end," Johnson said with a shrug.

Besides, the boos faded quickly. Johnson helped make sure of it, hitting his first three shots on his way to 15 points and nine rebounds as the 15th-ranked Tar Heels opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a lopsided 85-60 victory.

No. 12 UNC beats No. 15 NC State 90-82 in rivalry game

North Carolina made the 30-minute drive to visit ranked rival North Carolina State and left Raleigh just as the 12th-ranked Tar Heels always seem to do: with a win.

Luke Maye scored 21 points to help the Tar Heels hold off the 15th-ranked Wolfpack 90-82 on Tuesday night, earning a sixth straight road win in the longtime series.

Williamson scores 30, No. 1 Duke routs Wake Forest 87-65

Nobody in college basketball attacks the rim quite like freshman sensation Zion Williamson does. His Duke teammates started doing it in the second half, and suddenly the top-ranked Blue Devils had yet another blowout victory.

Williamson scored a season-high 30 points with 10 rebounds, and Duke won its first road game of the season by beating Wake Forest 87-65 on Tuesday night.

No. 4 Virginia remains unbeaten with easy 83-56 win over BC

Virginia Cavaliers' coach Tony Bennett is usually known for his relaxed demeanor on the sideline.

His team looked exactly like that on the court Wednesday night in its first Atlantic Coast Conference road game.

Mamadi Diakite matched his career-high with 18 points, De'Andre Hunter also scored 18 and the fourth-ranked Cavaliers remained unbeaten with an 83-56 victory over Boston College.

Nichols, Savoy lead No. 13 Florida State past Miami 68-62

Florida State's depth has long been a big part of its success under coach Leonard Hamilton. On a night when fouls limited minutes for a number of players, it was two Seminoles who came off the bench to spark the victory.

David Nichols had 13 points and PJ Savoy scored eight of his 10 in the second half as the reserves helped No. 13 Florida State hold off Miami 68-62 on Wednesday. The Seminoles' bench contributed 41 points.

No. 9 Virginia Tech holds off Georgia Tech 52-49

Ahmed Hill never doubted Virginia Tech would start to make some baskets.

It took all night, but the Hokies finally got what they needed.

"I know we missed a lot of shots, but in the end we found a way to win," Hill said. "That's kind of how our team is built."

Hill scored 15 points, Kerry Blackshear Jr. added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 9 Virginia Tech overcame a terrible shooting performance to beat Georgia Tech 52-49 on Wednesday.

No. 1 Duke stuns Seminoles on late Cam Reddish 3-pointer

Cam Reddish had struggled for more than a month, searching for any kind of consistency with his shot.

With Zion Williamson on the bench in the second half and suffering from double vision after getting poked in the eye, Reddish made all the shots on Saturday -- including the game-winner.

The freshman forward hit a 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to lead No. 1 Duke past No. 13 Florida State, 80-78 on Saturday.

Guy, No. 4 Virginia stay perfect with 63-43 win over Clemson

    - Kyle Guy is happy for any win. He savors it just a bit more, though, when it comes on the road.

Guy and undefeated No. 4 Virginia have had plenty to celebrate on that front lately.

Guy had 13 points, De'Andre Hunter scored 12 and the Cavaliers improved to 15-0 with a 63-43 victory at Clemson on Saturday. It was also Virginia's 12th straight ACC road win, the fourth best such run in league history.

Funderburk leads No. 15 NC State past Pitt 86-80

No. 15 North Carolina State lost both a starting big man and its point guard. Good thing for the Wolfpack that their depth is the envy of most teams.

DJ Funderburk scored 12 of his career-high 18 points in the second half, and N.C. State beat Pittsburgh 86-80 on Saturday.

Louisville hands No. 12 North Carolina worst home loss of Roy Williams era

Louisville went from suffering a confidence-jarring loss against a long-struggling Atlantic Coast Conference program to handing Roy Williams his worst home loss in 16 seasons with North Carolina.

Tough to explain? Even the Hall of Famer had a hard time with that.

"We never really got into the game," Williams said after Saturday's 83-62 defeat to the Cardinals. "I'd like to give you a brilliant answer as to why, but I can't give you that brilliant answer."

Trey McGowens leads Pitt to 75-62 upset of No. 11 FSU

Jeff Capel noticed the fearlessness in Trey McGowens, Xavier Johnson and Au'Diese Toney right away. The way they played, it was almost impossible to miss. Capel leaned on that inherent daring when he made his recruiting pitch to them last spring just days after taking over the rebuilding project at Pittsburgh.

Join me, Capel said. Let's bring the swagger back together.

Less than nine months later, what Capel cautioned would be a lengthy process appears to be well ahead of schedule behind his three precocious freshmen, who have shrugged off the program's regrettable recent past with a competitive fire that points to a promising future.

McGowens poured in 30 points, Johnson added 16 -- including consecutive buckets in the final four minutes after Florida State cut Pitt's lead to five -- and the Panthers pulled away from the 11th-ranked Seminoles for a 75-62 victory on Monday night.

Battle, Syracuse upset No. 1 Duke 95-91 in OT

Syracuse packed its patented 2/3 zone defense around Zion Williamson, and dared a depleted Duke team to win from the 3-point line.

Without shooter Cameron Reddish, the top-ranked Blue Devils couldn't do it. And without point guard Tre Jones, their defense couldn't pressure the Orange, either.

Tyus Battle scored a season-high 32 points, and Syracuse rattled Duke in overtime in a 95-91 upset on Monday night- the Blue Devils' first home loss as a No. 1 team to an opponent other than North Carolina.
