Unbeaten Seminoles wear down No. 10 VCU

The last time Florida State and Virginia Commonwealth met, the Seminoles lost in a matchup of attacking defensive styles in a ragged, fast-paced affair that saw VCU trudge away as the survivor.

The rematch featured the same brand of basketball on both sides. Only this time, it was Florida State that proved to be better at it.

Ian Miller scored 22 points and Devon Bookert added 18 to help Florida State survive 25 turnovers and cruise past No. 10 VCU 85-67 Thursday night at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

No. 6 Duke dodges Vermont in 1-point win

His roster is loaded with blue-chip talent and high school All-Americans. Yet Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski knows his sixth-ranked Blue Devils aren't good enough to win by simply showing up.

Vermont proved it to them Sunday night.

Out-of-sync -- and overconfident -- Duke needed a free throw from Rodney Hood with 5 seconds left to dodge the Catamounts' upset bid and win 91-90.

    C.J. Fair's double-double helps No. 8 Syracuse outlast Minnesota

The Maui Invitational is built on celebrating upsets. No. 8 Syracuse avoided one against Minnesota on Monday with a gritty early-season finish.

A frenzied sequence that included three blocks and a missed dunk ended with less than two minutes left when C.J. Fair calmly hit a pull-up jumper, giving the Orange a four-point lead. That led to a 75-67 win and an inside track to the early-season tournament's title as the favorite among eight teams playing in Hawaii.

C.J. Fair named MVP after Syracuse trumps Baylor for Maui title

Jim Boeheim and Syracuse remained perfect in Maui.

C.J. Fair scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half, and No. 8 Syracuse beat No. 18 Baylor 74-67 on Wednesday night for the title.

The Orange (7-0) delivered three wins in three days, taking control against Baylor midway through the first half and limiting the Bears' hopes of a comeback. Syracuse beat Minnesota on Monday and California on Tuesday, improving to 9-0 all-time at Maui. The Orange also won the tournament in 1990 and 1998.

No. 15 Florida earns 1-point win over Florida State

The only thing No. 15 Florida did really well Friday night was chase loose balls.

It ended up being the key to another victory over rival Florida State.

Dorian Finney-Smith, who was fouled after grabbing the team's 20th offensive rebound, made a free throw with 1.3 seconds left that lifted the Gators to a 67-66 victory against the Seminoles.

Cook had 24 points -- all in the second half -- and nine assists to help Duke beat No. 22 Michigan 79-69 on Tuesday night, improving the Blue Devils to 13-2 all-time in the annual interconference competition.

No. 4 Syracuse beats Binghamton 93-65

When Binghamton stunned Syracuse with an early barrage that gave the Bearcats an eight-point lead, all the Orange had to do was turn up the pressure.

C.J. Fair scored 19 points, Trevor Cooney had 17, and No. 4 Syracuse cruised past the Bearcats 93-65, taking charge with an 18-0 first-half run spurred by a full-court press.

Marcus Paige scores 21 in 2nd half as UNC upends Kentucky

Short-handed again in a tight -- and often ugly -- contest, Marcus Paige and North Carolina proved they're tough enough to fight their way to another marquee nonconference victory.

As for Kentucky, coach John Calipari is still waiting for his Wildcats to grow up.

Paige scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half and James Michael McAdoo had 20 points, helping the 18th-ranked Tar Heels beat the 11th-ranked Wildcats 82-77 on Saturday.

C.J. Fair helps No. 2 Syracuse fight off St. John's

C.J. Fair didn't have many chances to be the main option for Syracuse last season.

    Now he has plenty.

The 6-foot-8 forward has gone from the Orange's fourth option to No. 1, and he showed why Sunday in a 68-63 victory over St. John's at Madison Square Garden.

Jabari Parker scores 21 points as No. 8 Duke whips Gardner-Webb

Duke's shooting cooled as the game wore on while its defense had trouble consistently slowing down Gardner-Webb's hot shooting.

Then again, Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski said, it was an OK performance for a team coming off such a long break.

Freshman Jabari Parker scored 21 points to help No. 8 Duke beat Gardner-Webb 85-66 on Monday night in its first game in nearly two weeks.

Malachi Richardson (Hamilton, N.J./Trenton Catholic), the 12th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2015, made a verbal commitment to Syracuse on Friday afternoon.

His decision comes a little more than two weeks after he cut his list to six schools -- Villanova, Rutgers, Arizona, Indiana, Syracuse and Connecticut.

Jabari Parker nabs double-double as No. 8 Duke picks apart UCLA

It was an average performance from Jabari Parker, and it drew praise worthy of another stellar effort by the Duke freshman.

"He's a natural," Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski said after Parker had 23 points and 10 rebounds in an 80-63 victory over UCLA on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. "In different sports there are people who are naturals. Jabari is a natural. He can become even better. He embraces the moment."

Trevor Cooney's shooting helps No. 2 Syracuse run by High Point

Syracuse has turned up the defense at the right time all season, and when High Point threatened to pull off a monumental upset the second-ranked Orange did what they do best with their quick hands and savvy play.

Trevor Cooney hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points, C.J. Fair added 15 points, and Syracuse forced 15 turnovers in the second half to pull away from the Panthers 75-54 on Friday night.
