No. 1 Duke bounces back from SFA loss, beats Winthrop 83-70

Given a few days to dwell on its stunning loss to Stephen F. Austin, top-ranked Duke wanted to make Winthrop pay for it.

When a blowout didn't happen right away, the young Blue Devils found themselves doubting themselves a bit.

It took a while to get clicking, but Duke eventually pulled away for an 83-70 victory over the Eagles on Friday night behind a season-high 20 points from freshman Matthew Hurt and career bests of 16 points and four 3-pointers from Joey Baker.

FSU hands No.17 Tennessee 1st loss in Emerald Coast Classic

Florida State's depth was good enough to withstand Tennessee's one-man show.

Devin Vassell scored 13 points, made a key steal and sank pair of free throws in the final minute, and Florida State upended No. 17 Tennessee 60-57 on Friday night in the Emerald Coast Classic.

No. 1 Louisville tops No. 4 Michigan 58-43 in Challenge

Louisville players and coach Chris Mack cared more about protecting the basket against Michigan than defending their new perch atop the rankings.

Fulfilling that priority helped the Cardinals succeed in their season debut as the nation's No. 1 team.

Jordan Nwora had 22 points and 12 rebounds, and Louisville held No. 4 Michigan to a season-low 26% shooting mark for a 58-43 victory Tuesday night in its first game since returning to No. 1.

No. 10 Duke rallies past Virginia Tech 77-63

Tre Jones was pleased that when No. 10 Duke fell behind early at Virginia Tech, the Blue Devils showed composure and gradually worked their way back.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski was glad he had Jones to lead the way.

"They follow his lead," Krzyzewski said after Jones scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half as Duke rallied to beat the Hokies 77-63 Friday night.

No. 1 Louisville pulls away from Pittsburgh, 64-46

The most impressive thing about Louisville's response to Pittsburgh's comeback attempt was how quickly and effectively the No. 1 Cardinals shut it down.

Not unlike the way they started.

Jordan Nwora scored 19 points, Malik Williams had 13 points and 11 rebounds off the bench, and Louisville used a 17-4 second-half run to pull away from Pittsburgh for a 64-46 victory Friday night.

No. 17 Florida St makes 15 3-pointers, beats Clemson 72-53

Stung by an inconsistent performance from 3-point range this season, No. 17 Florida State focused for a week on getting better from beyond the arc.

    And it showed.

Devin Vassell had 14 points and nine rebounds as the Seminoles made 15 3s in routing Clemson 72-53 Sunday.

Louisville becomes latest No. 1 to lose, falls to Texas Tech

Texas Tech's scruffy walk-on Avery Benson tried to crowd surf at Madison Square Garden and coach Chris Beard thrust his fist in the air at many of the same rabid fans who had told security they were going to rush the court.

The fans were held at bay after No. 1 Louisville went down -- but the dancing and water-spraying was on full blast in the Red Raiders' locker room.

Time to get rowdy? For the Red Raiders, you bet.

About the only thing wilder than the postgame party has been the upset craze at the top of the national rankings. Here's one poll position no team may want: Louisville is the latest No. 1-and-done team to lose soon after securing the top spot.

Benson sparked the Red Raiders with a pair of highlight-reel blocks, and Davide Moretti scored 18 points and hit successive 3-pointers that helped send them on their way and knock off undefeated No. 1 Louisville 70-57 on Tuesday night.

Clark, Huff help No. 9 Virginia survive Stony Brook, 56-44

Virginia coach Tony Bennett still ranks as the NCAA's career leader in 3-point shooting percentage at 49.7%, so he might be more able to tell his players what not to do to get themselves out of a shooting slump.

The players take his words to heart.

"You can't obsess to the best of your abilities on your shot," Bennett said Wednesday night after Virginia struggled again on offense, but did enough to beat Stony Brook 56-44. "You have to be a plus in all the other areas: defensively, not turning it over, being sound and at times you pass up some shots. You need to, and then there's times you have to take them."

Baker, Carey help No. 4 Duke top Wofford 86-57 without Jones

It was only a few months ago that Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski wasn't sure how much playing time Joey Baker could earn this season on a deep roster.

If he keeps shooting like this, he won't have any problems finding that time on the court.

Baker had career highs of 22 points and five 3-pointers to help the fourth-ranked Blue Devils beat Wofford 86-57 on Thursday night, with all of his field goals coming after halftime.

No. 19 Florida State rallies past South Florida 66-60

Florida State had trouble making a shot. South Florida had trouble getting a shot.

The No. 19-ranked Seminoles used smothering defense to overcome a 10-point deficit in the final seven minutes and beat South Florida 66-60 Saturday in the Orange Bowl Classic.

Osborne, Koprivica lead Florida St. past North Alabama

Florida State finished the non-conference home schedule the way it had done for the last half of the decade -- with a resounding victory.

Malik Osborne scored 12 of his season-high 14 points in the first half as No. 17 Florida State cruised to an 88-71 win over North Alabama on Saturday as the Seminoles won their 38th straight non-conference home game. That streak started after a loss to Nebraska on Dec. 1, 2014.

Carey leads No. 4 Duke past Brown 75-50

First, the opponent got Duke's attention. Then it was coach Mike Krzyzewski's turn.

Vernon Carey Jr. scored 19 points to help No. 4 Duke beat Brown 75-50 on Saturday on a day when the Blue Devils' jump shots rarely fell.
