No. 1 Syracuse tops Clemson for 23rd straight win

    Another challenge. Another challenge met.

Joe Harris' 19 lead No. 17 Virginia past Terrapins

Joe Harris hasn't had to score as much this season for No. 17 Virginia as he did a year ago. When the Cavaliers had their hands full with Maryland on Monday night, though, Harris showed he can still carry the day.

Harris scored 19 points, 16 after halftime, and Virginia stretched its winning streak to eight games by beating Maryland 61-53 in the Terrapins' last visit as an ACC rival.

    Demetrius Jackson to sit out

Notre Dame freshman Demetrius Jackson, who was not present when the Irish beat Clemson 68-64 on Tuesday, is taking some time off to focus on academics, the school announced.

"Demetrius had a great fall semester ... he just needs to improve his academic habits [this semester]," coach Mike Brey said.

Asked if Jackson was seeking to transfer from the school, Brey said, "Demetrius Jackson is very committed to Notre Dame."

Rakeem Christmas' late steal helps No. 1 Syracuse avoid NC State upset

Syracuse's streak lives on -- barely.

With their key players struggling, the top-ranked Orange used their defense to remain unbeaten, edging North Carolina State 56-55 on C.J. Fair's layup with 6.7 seconds left Saturday night.

Rakeem Christmas started the winning sequence with a steal in the lane off a trap in the left corner, and Fair finished it with a layup in transition.

Joe Harris helps No. 17 Virginia win ninth consecutive game

Virginia coach Tony Bennett was so excited about his team's first win at Clemson in seven years, he wanted to scream in celebration and pump his fists with his players in the locker room.

He didn't, though. That's not how the 17th-ranked Cavaliers built their longest win Atlantic Coast Conference win streak in 32 years and isn't how Bennett believes they'll go forward.

Joe Harris had 16 points, including a critical 3-pointer with about three minutes left, and Virginia won its ninth straight ACC game for the first time since Ralph Sampson dominated the middle there in 1981-82.

James Michael McAdoo, North Carolina hold off No. 25 Pittsburgh

North Carolina shook off the disappointment of weather derailing the first meeting with its biggest rival to add another win to a growing streak. This time, it came against a ranked opponent.

James Michael McAdoo had 24 points and 12 rebounds Saturday to help the Tar Heels beat No. 25 Pittsburgh 75-71 for their sixth straight victory.

Jabari Parker, Duke keep rolling with win over Georgia Tech

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski insists there has been no talk of big games still to come this week.

Convincing evidence came in the way the Blue Devils kept their focus in a win over Georgia Tech. Jabari Parker had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 5 Duke rolled to a 68-51 victory Tuesday night.

No. 14 Virginia edges Virginia Tech 57-53

All night long, with No. 14 Virginia trailing Virginia Tech, Justin Anderson kept thinking the Cavaliers were about to take control. Then instead, the Hokies would make a run.

When just 6 minutes remained on the clock, time was running out for the Cavs.

But then Anderson and Joe Harris made consecutive 3-pointers in the closing minutes Tuesday night, and Virginia used a 24-6 run to erase an 11-point, second-half deficit and beat the struggling Hokies 57-53 for its 10th consecutive victory.

Boston College stuns No. 1 Syracuse in OT to end unbeaten season

To a man, the Boston College Eagles were convinced of one thing: DK was looking down on them.

Olivier Hanlan and Patrick Heckmann hit 3-pointers in overtime, Lonnie Jackson made four straight free throws in the final 26.2 seconds, and lowly BC stunned top-ranked Syracuse 62-59 on Wednesday night, ending the Orange's unbeaten season.

"It was an emotional game for us," BC coach Steve Donahue said after his first Carrier Dome win in eight tries against the Orange. "It's been incredible for these guys to persevere. We've played well in a lot of games."

Unranked North Carolina rallies to topple No. 5 Duke, win 8th straight

Marcus Paige and his North Carolina teammates have endured so many wild swings -- big wins, surprising losses, NCAA drama -- that no one can blame their Hall of Fame coach for wondering what's next.

A month after sitting at 0-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Tar Heels are surging following a rousing comeback against their fiercest rival, one that had their fans rushing to midcourt to celebrate when it was over.

Paige scored all 13 of his points in the second half, including two big baskets in the final 2½ minutes, to help UNC beat No. 5 Duke 74-66 on Thursday night for its eighth straight win.

No. 5 Duke hands No. 1 Syracuse second straight loss

The rematch of one of college basketball's best games of the season ended with Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim ejected after he charged onto the court to argue a block/charge call.

Rodney Hood scored 13 points and drew that game-changing charging call that helped No. 5 Duke beat No. 1 Syracuse 66-60 on Saturday night.

No. 14 Virginia uses 30-5 run to rip Notre Dame

It was just one play in a 40-minute game. It changed everything.

Notre Dame trailed Virginia 48-43, and Zach Auguste of the Fighting Irish went up for a dunk. Justin Anderson of No. 14 Virginia went up with him, but from behind he denied the attempt, blocking the ball against the backboard to teammate Anthony Gill.

Seconds later, Gill took a pass inside and dunked with two hands for the Cavaliers, and what had been a close game was about to turn dramatically, a 30-2 run rescuing Virginia from a close contest on its way to another ACC blowout victory, 70-49.

No. 12 UVa bests No. 4 Syracuse for 1st outright ACC title in 33 years

Malcolm Brogdon talked before No. 12 Virginia's final home game about making it a success for seniors Joe Harris, Akil Mitchell and even former walk-on Thomas Rogers, the first building blocks in Tony Bennett's remaking of the Cavaliers.

On Saturday, Brogdon made sure his teammates left happy. He scored 17 of his career-high 19 points in the second half, including eight in a decisive run that sent Virginia on its way to a 75-56 victory against No. 4 Syracuse.

No. 19 UNC beats Virginia Tech for 11th straight win

North Carolina's 11th straight victory gave the Tar Heels one of the top four seeds in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament and a bye through to the quarterfinals.

Quite a turnaround for a team that started 1-4 in conference play.

"I don't know that I care that much about getting a bye," coach Roy Williams said. "I care more about that meaning that you've had a pretty good run. I like winning games."

James Michael McAdoo scored 15 points to lead No. 19 North Carolina past Virginia Tech 60-56 on Saturday.

No. 14 North Carolina holds off Notre Dame for 12th straight win

North Carolina just keeps winning, even if the past two performances haven't been what coach Roy Williams wanted to see.

For the 14th-ranked Tar Heels, the question is whether two straight close wins against teams from the bottom third of the Atlantic Coast Conference standings is a concern or just a blip headed into Saturday's finale against their fiercest rival.

James Michael McAdoo hit the go-ahead shot in the lane with 3:09 left and Marcus Paige blocked Eric Atkins' driving shot on the final play to seal UNC's 63-61 victory over Notre Dame on Monday night, earning the Tar Heels their 12th straight victory in their last home game.

Re: No. 14 North Carolina holds off Notre Dame for 12th straight win

Mike Krzyzewski might have poured too much emotion into No. 4 Duke's trip to Wake Forest.

The rest of the Blue Devils didn't seem to have enough.

The Demon Deacons upset Duke 82-72 on Wednesday night after Coach K experienced enough dizziness and light-headedness to force him to kneel during a late timeout and skip his postgame news conference.

Jabari Parker scores career-high 30, adds 11 boards as No. 4 Duke rolls

If this was Jabari Parker's last home game at Duke, what a farewell it was.

The freshman phenom scored a season-high 30 points and added 11 rebounds in the fourth-ranked Blue Devils' 93-81 win over No. 14 North Carolina on Saturday night.
