Engstler leads No. 4 Louisville women past Pitt, 66-55

Louisville's Liz Dixon (22) battles to control the ball as she is guarded by Pittsburgh's Emy Hayford (4) and Liatu
King (2) in the first half of an NCAA college basketball game, Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, in Pittsburgh

The first half did not go according to plan for No. 4 Louisville at Pittsburgh. The Cardinals knew Pitt would be aggressive on the glass and try to outwork Louisville in the paint to make up for its poor shooting. Knowing about that plan ahead of time didn’t stop it from nearly working. The Panthers kept the the Cardinals’ offense in check throughout the first half on Thursday night and twice tied the game in the third quarter before Louisville pulled away for a 66-55 win.

UVA Women’s Basketball Falls to North Carolina 68-57 in Regular Season Finale

For a senior class that has endured some challenging times in their UVA women's basketball careers, the Cavaliers had an opportunity to end a disappointing regular season with three straight wins.

In the regular season finale, the Virginia women’s basketball team (5-21, 2-16 ACC) came in having won its last two ACC contests and faced No. 18 North Carolina (22-5, 12-5 ACC). Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, they were unable to keep up with the Tar Heels from the tip as UNC dominated in the first quarter and held off the Hoos en route to a 68-57 win over Virginia on Thursday night at John Paul Jones Arena.

The mission was clear for the No. 14 Notre Dame women’s basketball team on Thursday – defeat Clemson at home and receive a double-bye in the ACC Tournament. Well, they understood the assignment, as the Fighting Irish (21-6, 13-4) soared to a 77-56 victory over the visiting Tigers (9-19, 3-14).
