Dayton's rally knocks off No. 11 Gonzaga in Maui upset

Dayton loves Hawaii -- and not for the surfing. The Flyers much prefer fishing for wins against ranked teams.

Jordan Sibert scored 23 points, and Dayton upset No. 11 Gonzaga 84-79 on Monday night in the Maui Invitational, its third win against a top-12 team in seven games at the early-season tournament.

George Washington upsets No. 20 Creighton in Wooden Legacy

Isaiah Armwood is one of George Washington's top scorers and Sunday night he showed he's also one of the Colonials' best defenders.

Armwood got the job of guarding Creighton's leading scorer and was up to the challenge, holding Doug McDermott nearly 21 points below his season average to lead the Colonials to one of their biggest wins in years, a 60-53 victory over the 20th-ranked Bluejays in the Wooden Legacy consolation game Sunday night.

Massachusetts did OK in its first game as a ranked team in 15 years.

No. 25 Dayton shakes off Delaware State, 56-46

Dayton coach Archie Miller told his team it would be a weird game because of Delaware State's style of play.

The Hornets' slow pace and junk defenses weren't enough to derail No. 25 Dayton, though, and the Flyers overcame a sluggish first half, poor foul shooting and a late slump to defeat Delaware State 56-46 on Wednesday night.

Chaz Williams, No. 21 UMass beat BYU for 8th straight win

UMass point guard Chaz Williams is at least 13 inches shorter than Eric Mika, yet that didn't stop him from going nose-to-uniform number with the BYU forward.

"Once guys started pushing and shoving, I just told them to keep it together," Williams said after supplementing his career highs for points and assists by stepping into the middle of a minor skirmish and leading No. 21 UMass to a 105-96 victory over Brigham Young. "I think it carried over. The energy got us fired up."

No. 22 Massachusetts defeats Ohio, improves to 10-0

Massachusetts isn't relying on just one or two players to keep its unbeaten season going.

Maxie Esho and Chaz Williams both had double-doubles and three others scored in double figures as the 22nd-ranked Minutemen beat Ohio 83-71 on Wednesday night.

Derrick Gordon heroics lift No. 23 UMass past Providence in OT

Derrick Gordon believes scoring will come in time. The UMass redshirt sophomore might be on to something after getting the game-winning basket in the Minutemen's latest win.

Gordon's put-back of Trey Davis' miss with 1.1 seconds remaining in overtime lifted No. 23 Massachusetts to a 69-67 win over Providence on Saturday night.

Chaz Williams leads UMass over Miami (Ohio)

No. 23 Massachusetts was outrebounded and committed 16 turnovers. And it still managed to get a win on Saturday night.

So while he was happy with the result, coach Derek Kellogg is looking for more from his Minutemen.

Chaz Williams had 18 points and eight assists, leading Massachusetts to a 73-65 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday night.

UMass rallies from 13 points down to beat Bonnies

Three days after overcoming a late deficit, Trey Davis rebounded from a poor shooting game by nailing a pair of key baskets in the closing two minutes as the No. 19 Minutemen stormed back for a 73-68 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

Williams helps No. 16 UMass edge George Mason

If Chaz Williams still had any lingering effects from a bone bruise he suffered in his left ankle last weekend, it certainly did not show against George Mason.

Massachusetts' senior point guard had 26 points and eight assists, and Derrick Gordon made a go-ahead layup with 8 seconds remaining as the 16th-ranked Minutemen beat the Patriots 88-87 on Wednesday night.

Lalanne leads No. 16 UMass past Elon 84-74

Massachusetts guard Chaz Williams figured his scoring would take care of itself against Elon.

So when he found a groove Saturday night, he made sure the No. 16 Minutemen didn't skip a beat in their last non-conference game.

Williams scored all 20 of his points in the second half as UMass held off several rallies by Elon to win 84-74.

No. 24 Saint Louis handles Fordham 70-48

The shots just would not fall for Saint Louis. As usual, there were more than enough stops at the other end of the court.

Dwayne Evans had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Jordair Jett lacked a rebound for his first career double-double, leading the 24th-ranked Billikens to a 70-48 rout over Fordham on Saturday. They won easily despite shooting 38.5 percent.

Saint Louis narrowly avoids upset, wins 12th straight

Saint Louis coach Jim Crews is one of only a select few in NCAA Division I that starts five seniors. The No. 19 Billikens needed all of their experience to avoid an upset against Duquesne.

Mike McCall scored 13 points, including two free throws with 13 seconds remaining, as Saint Louis edged Duquesne 76-72 on Wednesday night.

Richmond upends No. 13 UMass behind Kendall Anthony's 21 points

Kendall Anthony hit his first two shots and thought he might be in for something special. He was right.

The 5-foot-8 guard hit his first four 3-point attempts, scored 21 points and picked up the slack when scoring leader Cedrick Lindsay was in foul trouble for Richmond, leading the Spiders to a 58-55 victory against No. 13 Massachusetts on Wednesday night.

Chaz Williams leads with 18 points as No. 13 UMass rebounds from loss

Massachusetts' signature this season has been defensive pressure. The 13th-ranked Minutemen decided it was time to test Fordham early and ran away to an easy win.

Chaz Williams had 18 points and eight assists and UMass rebounded from a loss earlier this week with a 90-52 victory Sunday.

No. 19 Saint Louis whips Richmond 77-57

Jordair Jett hit the glass to record his second career double-double, a points-and-rebounds performance that might not be expected from a 6-foot-1 guard.

"I had a pretty good flow going," Jett said. "I always tell my bigs I'll help them rebound, so I just helped out on the glass a little more today."

Jett had 21 points and a career-best 10 rebounds, putting his footprint all over the 19th-ranked Billikens' 77-57 rout on Wednesday night. They made quick work of a worrisome opponent, leading by 24 points in the first half.
