St. Bonaventure shuts down No. 21 UMass in upset

St. Bonaventure finally proved it could hold on to a lead in the second half.

Riding the wave of emotion generated by a raucous home crowd and the momentum produced by a stifling defense, the Bonnies capped a scrappy performance with a stunning 78-65 upset of No. 21 Massachusetts on Wednesday night.

Halil Kanacevic, Saint Joseph's hold on to upset No. 21 UMass

A familiar feeling crept into the heads of the Saint Joseph's players after UMass overcame a big deficit to tie the game in the final minute.

Less than a month earlier, the Minutemen trailed by nine points before rallying to beat St. Joe's. But this time, on their home court, the Hawks didn't allow that to happen again.

Halil Kanacevic scored 18 points and Saint Joseph's broke away from a late tie to beat No. 21 Massachusetts 73-68 Saturday.

No 19 Saint Louis gets past George Mason in OT

A career-high 30 points for George Mason's Bryon Allen left him in no mood celebrate.

The Patriots forced No. 19 Saint Louis into overtime but lost 87-81. George Mason (7-14, 0-7), the newest member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, lost its eighth consecutive game..

Saint Louis claims school-record 15th straight win to extend best start

Saint Louis coach Jim Crews apologized for not having the right words to describe one of the best teams in the nation.

"You know how boring I am," he said.

His Billikens more than make up for it on the court, using a smothering defense that always has a hand in the face and eyes on the ball.

And now, a spot in the record book.

Rob Loe scored 17 points and Jordair Jett had 10 points and seven assists to help No. 13 Saint Louis top Saint Joseph's 65-49 on Wednesday night for a team-record 15th straight victory.

No. 13 Saint Louis wins 16th straight

Jordair Jett was so physically dominant that La Salle coach John Giannini believes he has a future in the pros.

And not even necessarily as a basketball player.

Jett scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half, including the game-winning basket with 4 seconds left, and No. 13 Saint Louis extended its school-record winning streak to 16 games with a 65-63 victory over La Salle on Saturday.

No. 12 Saint Louis holds off VCU for 17th straight victory

All of that senior experience paid off at the finish for Saint Louis. After frittering away a 12-point lead in a matchup of the Atlantic 10's top two teams, no one panicked.

"When it comes down to it, the last two minutes, we really look at each other and say, 'Let's get it done,'" Dwayne Evans said after the 12th-ranked Billikens (23-2, 10-0 Atlantic 10) held off VCU 64-62 for their 17th straight victory on Saturday. "They're a good team, so we knew they'd make a run."

No. 10 Saint Louis survives challenge from George Mason in OT

Saint Louis coach Jim Crews thinks it is pretty simple why the last-place team in the Atlantic 10 has given his 10th-ranked Billikens fits in both meetings this season.

"Well, they've got really good players and I think they're really well set up," Crews said of George Mason after an 89-85 overtime win Wednesday night, the Billikens' 18th straight. "They've got quick guys, and they've got physical guys. They're well-schooled.

No. 10 Saint Louis tops George Washington 66-59

Rob Loe figures if the Saint Louis Billikens put together a complete game this season it will be special. For now, they'll take what they can get.

Jordair Jett scored 16 points, Loe added 12 and No. 10 Saint Louis earned its 19th straight win by holding off George Washington 66-59 Saturday night.

Duquesne stuns No. 10 Saint Louis as win streak ends at 19

The longest winning streak in Saint Louis history ended Thursday night with a surprising loss at home to Duquesne. That was hardly the most disappointing part of it as far as forward Dwayne Evans was concerned.

"The streak didn't really mean much to us," Evans said. "It's a tough loss because there's a championship on the line, not just because it broke the streak."
Micah Mason had 22 points and Jerry Jones added 19, leading Duquesne to a 71-64 victory.

VCU hands No. 10 Saint Louis 2nd straight loss

While a trip to the NCAA tournament has become an expectation for Virginia Commonwealth lately, some analysts thought the Rams still had work to do to solidify their position in the field of 68. They should be able to breathe a little easier now.

Treveon Graham had 17 points and eight rebounds, and VCU added a quality win to its postseason resume by beating No. 10 Saint Louis 67-56 on Saturday night.

Dayton topples Saint Louis; Billikens still get at least title share

Jim Crews did not seem to mind Saint Louis backing into a share of its second straight Atlantic 10 title and the top seed in the conference tournament.

"Hey, we play for championships, so I'm delighted," the coach of the 17th-ranked Billikens after a 72-67 loss to Dayton in the home finale Wednesday night. "Our kids gave it great effort.

St Bonaventure stuns No. 18 Saint Louis in A-10

Charlon Kloof drew in the Saint Louis defense, the Billikens rightly concerned about the trouble the St. Bonaventure guard could cause.

That left Jordan Gathers wide open at the top of the key, and he drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to stun No. 18 Saint Louis 71-68 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 tournament Friday.

No. 23 VCU routs Richmond 71-53 at A-10 tournament

Defense carries VCU, and Briante Weber leads the way.

When the nation's steals leader is wreaking havoc on offense too, the 23rd-ranked Rams can crush an opponent as they did Friday. Weber scored 18 points in 18 minutes, and VCU routed crosstown rival Richmond 71-53 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 tournament.

No. 23 VCU beats George Washington in A-10 semifinals

Melvin Johnson hit the floor, grabbed his left knee and yelled in pain.

The Atlantic 10's sixth man of the year was done early in the first half of VCU's conference semifinal against George Washington -- and likely for a lot more than that.

The injury shook up the Rams for a bit, but soon it was "Havoc" as usual for No. 23 VCU and another trip to a conference tournament championship game.

Treveon Graham scored 22 points, Briante Weber added 16, and VCU pressed and pressured its way to a 74-55 victory against the Colonials on Saturday.

Saint Joseph's beats VCU to earn first A-10 title since 1997

Langston Galloway's legs should have been aching after playing three games in three days and every minute against VCU's press.

The only thing the Saint Joseph's senior could feel was how close he was to winning an Atlantic 10 tournament championship. Galloway stepped back to hit yet another huge 3-pointer, giving the Hawks the lead for good in their 65-61 win over the 23rd-ranked Rams in Sunday's final.
