Took me awhile to read this post and it seems to me that everyone has some valid points. Also seems like the argument is being pulled in three different directions all based on what the criteria is for the best player: 1. The player most likely to dominate and thus make his team most likely to win the championship. Proponents of this argument often go with one of the three dominant big men in the league - Duncan, Shaq, or KG. 2. The most versatile player or the player who contributes the most to his team such that his team would be hopelessly lost without him. Most people go with KG or T-Mac here ... with Duncan somewhere below those guys. 3. Finally, there is the skill factor. Basketball is skill, athleticism, power, grace, versatility and speed. The most athletic and skillfull players who execute spectacularly difficult plays that no-one but they can do. Kobe and T-Mac get the nod here. So it all really depends on your criteria for what makes one the best player. I play in tournaments (not basketball but soccer) and many a year every player knows who the best player in the league is, and often he is not on the winningest team or the most unstoppable player. But as a player yourself you know who the best players are. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the players in the NBA would be split between Kobe and T-Mac as the best players in the league today. Duncan and Garnett and Shaq are anomalies that dominate the game because of their combination of height, speed, and strength and would be able to dominate in ways even MJ couldn't do ... but the best players in my mind will almost always be a guard.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Big D:</div><div class="quote_post">I think people are going on a variety of different criteria. Depending on your definition of "best player," you could come up with about 10 different guys as the best. In terms of pure skills, I'd go with Kobe. In terms of all-around game, I'd go with Garnett. In terms of who I'd start my franchise with, I'd go with Duncan. In terms of who the best teammate is, I'd go with Kidd. In terms of most dominant, I'd go with Shaq. The list goes on. Let's just have a good debate here, and no one get angry if someone doesn't agree with you.</div> ^^Agreed ... Big D and Fiyah are correct ... you have to let people know your criteria and definition of what it means to be the "Best Player." For me best = domination, and no one dominates the league like Shaq can.
QUOTE=shapecityFor me best = domination, and no one dominates the league like Shaq can.[/QUOTE] Thats true, but Shaq did not dominate last year..Duncan did..and in a big way...mainly against L.A...that game 6 was a prefect example of "dominating"

Not who had the best year last season. If you are going by domination there is no doubt that the best player is Shaq. It really bothers me that anyone can use domination as their main criteria and not choose Shaq! Shaq may be the most dominant player to ever play the game.
I was only mentioned the dominating factor...As shape mentioned it about Shaq..no doubt Shaq when he is on his game is a big force and can't be stopped..but Duncan can also dominate teams..which he has done over the years and this past season... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Shaq may be the most dominant player to ever play the game.</div> Quite possible, but my vote goes to Wilt..
The best player in the regular season was KG but he always gets out in the 1st round. TD puts up almost same #'s accept the dimes but TD is more dominate player because he plays more in the post. And kobe is not the best player in the NBA the best all oround player in the NBA is KG 22 13 6
Just curious guys, which would you rather have? 28 ppg, 8 rpg, 9 apg, 2 spg or 22 ppg, 13 rpg, 6 apg, 1 spg
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting the MDE:</div><div class="quote_post">Just curious guys, which would you rather have? 28 ppg, 8 rpg, 9 apg, 2 spg or 22 ppg, 13 rpg, 6 apg, 1 spg</div> 28,8, and 9 is better numbers than 22, 13, and 6. But if the player that has the 22, 13, and 6 leads his team to the title, where the 28, 8, and 9 guy doesn't, Id take the 22, 13, and 6 guy(assuming the teams have equal talent). Also, age and salary are taken into the equation as well. The 22, 13, and 6 are KG's. 30, 7, and 6 are Kobe's
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting JWillTheFreak:</div><div class="quote_post">28 ppg, 8 rpg, 9 apg, 2 spg WHO AVG thos # and when????????????????</div> Kobe averaged about those #'s through the 2nd week of the season w/out Shaq..and that was before his insane scoring streak.
