No. 22 Butler rolls by Missouri State 93-59 in Puerto Rico

Butler coach Chris Holtmann already knew his team could run and score at a pace most teams will struggle to match this season. He's eager to see how the No. 22 Bulldogs respond when the offense doesn't come so easily.

Kelan Martin scored 18 points and No. 22 Butler put on another offensive show to beat Missouri State 93-59 on Thursday in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tipoff.

No. 11 Villanova uses defense to beat ETSU 86-51

Consider East Tennessee State coach Scott Forbes on the Villanova bandwagon.

After watching the Wildcats dismantle his Buccaneers 86-51 in a preliminary round of the NIT Season Tip-Off on Friday night, Forbes couldn't help but gush about the 11th-ranked team in the country.

No. 22 Butler beats Temple 74-69 in Puerto Rico Tipoff

Chris Holtmann finally got to see how his Butler team would handle a game when the offense wasn't run-run-running its way to big scoring totals.

    Uglier game? Sure.

It was also exactly how the coach hoped his No. 22 Bulldogs would respond.

Kellen Dunham scored 16 points to help Butler beat Temple 74-69 on Friday in the second round of the Puerto Rico Tipoff,

Xavier in control in 2nd half, downs No. 24 Michigan 86-70

Xavier coach Chris Mack was worried about Michigan's perimeter shooting.

So when the Musketeers held their own with the Wolverines from beyond the arc, it was a pretty good sign for Mack and his team.

Trevon Bluiett scored 15 points, including a 3-pointer that started a 12-1 run in the second half, and Xavier pulled away from No. 24 Michigan for an 86-70 victory on Friday night. Jalen Reynolds and Remy Abell added 15 points apiece for the Musketeers, who shot 9 of 21 from 3-point range.

Hart's 27 points lead No. 11 Villanova over Akron 75-56

During his first two years at Villanova, Josh Hart was the guy summoned off the bench to provide energy or come up with a big defensive stop.

Now that he's a starter, the junior guard looks like he could turn into a big-time scorer, too.

Hart scored a career-high 27 points to help No. 11 Villanova fend off an early scare and hand Akron its first loss with a 75-56 win on Sunday night in the NIT Season Tipoff.

Providence upsets No. 11 Arizona 69-65 in Wooden Legacy

With three starters in foul trouble, Providence had lost much of its firepower and the lead.

Arizona was on a big run, building a seven-point advantage, and Friars star Kris Dunn was on the bench for an excruciating 5-minute stretch.

Coach Ed Cooley turned to Dunn, telling him, "Yo man, you got us here, we're going to ride your coattails all year."

Dunn went back in, scored Providence's last 10 points and the Friars upset the 11th-ranked Wildcats 69-65 Friday night in the semifinals of the DirecTV Wooden Legacy.

No. 9 Villanova uses 3-point shooting to beat La Salle 76-47

Two things became clear as Villanova opened a comfortable lead in the first half Sunday: The Wildcats weren't going to lose twice in one week, and La Salle was paying the price for their first defeat of the season.

Josh Hart scored 18 points and Ryan Arcidiacono had 14 to help No. 9 Villanova roll past La Salle 76-47.

No. 12 Providence rallies to get past No. 9 Butler 81-73

Providence coach Ed Cooley kept imploring his team to play more aggressively Thursday.

Kris Dunn finally took care of it himself.

The star guard struggled with foul trouble in the first half before flirting with another triple-double, Rodney Bullock scored a career-high 25 points and No. 12 Providence rallied to beat No. 9 Butler 81-73 in the Big East opener for both teams.
