    No. 12 Providence beats St. John's 83-65

Providence coach Ed Cooley has absolutely no reservations on placing even more responsibilities on Kris Dunn.

"Every game Kris plays, this whole city is getting on his shoulders. That's why he came back to school," Cooley said after his 12th-ranked Friars rolled past St. John's 83-65 on Saturday. "He wants to be the leader. He wants to be the guy, and I'm going to help him do that."

Hart, Ochefu lead No. 16 'Nova to 85-71 win over Creighton

Villanova coach Jay Wright didn't have to worry for long about how his team would follow up its best overall performance of the season.

The 16th-ranked Wildcats, two days removed from a 31-point win over No. 6 Xavier, had their best shooting game of the season with Josh Hart and Daniel Ochefu leading the way in an 85-71 victory over Creighton on Saturday night.

Kellen Dunham warmed up with two free throws, and then made two straight 3-pointers -- all in the first 3 minutes.

Dunham found his stroke at a key moment for No. 18 Butler.

The senior guard scored 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting, and the Bulldogs edged DePaul 77-72 on Tuesday night.

Marquette beats No. 8 Providence 65-64

Providence star Kris Dunn was triple-teamed, and there wasn't enough time left to find an open teammate.

He leaned back and aimed for the rim, but Marquette freshman Henry Ellensonswatted the ball away.

"We didn't even get a shot attempt," Providence coach Ed Cooley said Tuesday night after the Golden Eagles beat the eighth-ranked Friars 65-64. "That's more frustrating than anything."

No. 11 Villanova holds off Seton Hall 72-63

Daniel Ochefu made it OK for once for 3-point happy Villanova to keep clanging shots off the rim.

He cleaned up messes on both ends and showed there is more to the Big East power than just fantastic guards.

Ochefu had 20 points and 18 rebounds in one of the best games for a Villanova big man in years, leading the No. 11 Wildcats to a 72-63 victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday night.

No. 10 Xavier outlasts St. John's for 74-66 victory

Xavier had one big advantage over St. John's on Wednesday night -- Myles Davis was wearing blue.

The junior guard finished with 19 points but it was the way he handled the last few minutes of the game that made the difference in the 10th-ranked Musketeers' 74-66 victory over the Red Storm.

No. 11 Villanova finds Hart to beat No. 18 Butler 60-55

Villanova found a winning combination Sunday night -- a little defense and a lot of Hart.

With most of their top big men in foul trouble, Ryan Arcidiacono struggling to make shots and No. 18 Butler refusing to go away, the Wildcats buckled down defensively and gave the ball to Josh Hart, who scored 22 points to lead No. 11 Villanova past the Bulldogs 60-55.

After all those shots didn't go in for Providence and Creighton, the last one did for Kris Dunn and the Friars.

Dunn hit a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer and scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half as the 12th-ranked Friars overcame their worst shooting of the season to defeat the Bluejays 50-48 on Tuesday night.

Bluiett scores 18 as Xavier knocks off Marquette

After a hot start by Marquette, Xavier coach Chris Mack opted to switch to a zone defense.

The decision quickly changed the course of the game, with the stifling 1-3-1 zone holding Marquette scoreless for more than 8 minutes and sparking the Musketeers on a 21-0 run.

"The game really swung when we went to our zone defense," Mack said. "It built us the lead and it caused hesitation on their part."

Trevon Bluiett had 18 points and No. 7 Xavier (16-1, 4-1 Big East) rode the big first-half run to seize control on the way to a 74-66 victory on Saturday.

Butler uses emotions to put away St. John's

Butler found a fitting way to honor Andrew Smith on Saturday.

The Bulldogs played with the passion and grit that was a trademark of their former center.

Kellen Dunham scored 24 points, Kelan Martinadded 22, and No. 23 Butler overcame a ragged start to pull away from St. John's 78-58. But this game was about a lot more than basketball.

No. 16 Providence rallies late, downs No. 18 Butler 71-68

With his team clinging to a late lead and at risk of losing consecutive games for the first time this season, Providence coach Ed Cooley walked out on the court and asked for some help.

During a timeout he raised his arms toward the Dunkin' Donuts Center crowd, and beckoned them to stand on their feet and cheer as Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" blared over the public address system.

It turned out to be exactly the jolt his team needed.

Ben Bentil scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half, and 16th-ranked Providence rallied late to outlast No. 18 Butler 71-68 on Tuesday night.
