Big 2nd half lifts No. 7 Xavier over No. 10 Providence 75-68

It's been a long time since Xavier was able to earn a Top 10 victory away from home.

That drought ended in a big way Tuesday night.

Jalen Reynolds had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and the seventh-ranked Musketeers held off a late rally to beat No. 10 Providence 75-68, Xavier's first road win over a Top Ten team in 20 years.

Bluiett helps No. 7 Xavier cruise past DePaul 86-65

It was J.P. Macura in the first half, Trevon Bluiett in the second and Larry Austin Jr. spread throughout the game.

No. 7 Xavier showed off its superior depth while overwhelming DePaul 86-65 on Saturday, putting away the lowly Blue Demons with an impressive burst spanning the halves.

Dunn, Bentil help No. 10 Providence fend off Georgetown

When Georgetown was fouling whoever had the ball, Providence coach Ed Cooley wanted to make sure it was in the hands of Ben Bentil or Kris Dunn. Actually, that wasn't a bad strategy all game.

Bentil and Dunn each scored 26 points in dominating fashion as the No. 10 Friars held off several second-half charges to beat the Hoyas 73-69 on Saturday night. The two top scorers in the Big East showed once again why they're one of the best one-two punches in the country.

No. 6 Villanova has big 2nd half, tops St. John's 68-53

Villanova didn't look like the No. 6 team in the country in the first half against St. John's on Sunday.

The Wildcats, the first place team in the Big East, had a terrible opening 20 minutes but righted themselves in the second half for a 68-53 victory over the Red Storm at Madison Square Garden.

Henry powers DePaul past No. 11 Providence 77-70

Rashaun Stimage was standing right behind DePaul coach Dave Leitao when he slapped the floor a couple of times and yelled as the final seconds ticked off. Leitao kept his eyes on the court until it was all over.

For one night at least, the Blue Demons finished the job.

Myke Henry had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and DePaul held off No. 11 Providence for a surprising 77-70 victory on Tuesday.

Trevon Bluiett leads No. 6 Xavier over St. John's 90-83

The 20th win may have come fast, but it wasn't fancy.

Trevon Bluiett had his fifth double-double of the season, and No. 6 Xavier overcame poor shooting and beat St. John's 90-83 on Wednesday night, getting its 20th win faster than any team in school history. But it didn't come easily against the league's last-place team.

Hot-shooting No. 3 Villanova takes down Creighton 83-58

With its senior center out of for a second straight game with a concussion, No. 3 Villanova knew it would have to rely on outside shooting.

What the Wildcats didn't expect is just how many of those shots would go in.

Kris Jenkins scored 22 points, Jalen Brunson had 16 and Villanova rolled past Creighton 83-58 on Wednesday night.

German forward Richard Freudenberg commits to St. John's

St. John's is struggling on the court in Chris Mullin's first season, but the Red Storm are stockpiling talent for the 2016-17 campaign.

Germany native Richard Freudenberg committed to St. John's on Thursday morning, sources told ESPN.

Freudenberg, a 6-foot-8 wing forward, chose the Red Storm over Vanderbilt, Boston College and Miami. He's played in two games for Bayern Munich in Germany's top division and had options to sign a contract and play professionally in Europe.

Freudenberg averaged 14.3 points and 8.0 rebounds for Bayern Munich's under-18 team in the 2014-15 EuroLeague and represented Germany in the U18 FIBA Europe Championship in 2015. He averaged 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds at the Europe Championship.

No. 3 Villanova too much for No. 11 Providence in 72-60 win

Villanova was overpowered on both ends of the floor in its overtime loss at home to Providence last month, the first vulnerability shown by a team that was unbeaten in Big East play.

The Friars came in a step slower for the rematch and the Wildcats took full advantage.

Darryl Reynolds had a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds and third-ranked Villanova held off a late rally to defeat No. 11 Providence 72-60 on Saturday.

Time was winding down, and Xavier had trailed the entire second half. The Musketeers made the final 4 minutes their own.

Maurice Watson scores career-high 32 as Creighton starts fast in upset

Creighton 7-footer Geoffrey Groselle couldn't help but admire the show Maurice Watson put on against Xavier.

Watson, the Bluejays' 5-foot-10 point guard, roamed all game in the land of the giants, making shifty moves that rendered Xavier's big men helpless as he snaked to the basket for layup after layup Tuesday night.

Watson finished with a career-high 32 points, leading Creighton to its biggest win of the season, 70-56 over the fifth-ranked Musketeers.

Villanova cruises by DePaul 86-59 in 1st game as No. 1 team

Josh Hart paced a balanced attack on offense. Darryl Reynolds and Daniel Ochefu patrolled the inside. Jalen Brunson and Kris Jenkins pitched in here and there.

In its first game as the nation's No. 1 team, Villanova looked the part in every way.

Hart had 18 points and Reynolds scored 12 of his 14 in the second half, leading the Wildcats to an easy 86-59 victory over DePaul on Tuesday night.

Down by a dozen points with only a few minutes left, No. 19 Dayton finally got around to playing shutdown defense.

Scoochie Smith hit a 3-pointer that put Dayton ahead to stay as the Flyers overcame a late 12-point deficit and beat Duquesne 76-74 on Tuesday night.

Marquette beats No. 20 Providence 96-91 in double overtime

Henry Ellenson smiled and seemed to bounce around with nervous energy after playing 48 minutes. Coach Steve Wojciechowski had a raspy voice as he talked about being so tense that he needed an ice bath.

The young Marquette Golden Eagles will remember their 96-91 victory in double overtime over No. 20 Providence on Wednesday night for quite some time.

No. 20 Providence ends skid with 75-72 win over Georgetown

Not much has come easy at home for Providence in the Big East this season.

It took one of the Friars' best offensive efforts to break out of their biggest slump to date.

Rodney Bullock had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 20 Providence held off a furious rally to beat Georgetown 75-72 on Saturday.

Myles Davis leads No. 8 Xavier over No. 23 Providence 85-74

Myles Davis needed only one point for a triple-double. He wasn't sure he'd get the chance, which was quite a surprise for one of Xavier's best shooters.

The shooting guard went to the free-throw line with 37 seconds left and made `em both for Xavier's first triple-double in five years, leading the eighth-ranked Musketeers to an 85-74 win over No. 23 Providence on Wednesday night.

Sumner's 22 points lead No. 8 Xavier past Georgetown 88-70

What was once a double-digit lead for No. 8 Xavier shrunk all the way down to only two points at halftime against Georgetown, which won the teams' previous meeting this season.

"I just reassured our guys: `We're fine. ... So let's go out and play in the second half with our hair on fire to start the half, like we're excited to be here," Xavier coach Chris Mack said. "So we did."

As Musketeers guard Edmond Sumner explained: "Going into the locker room, we weren't panicking."

Xavier broke open a tight game by making 12 of its first 13 shots after halftime, and Sumner finished with a career-best 22 points, leading the Musketeers past slumping Georgetown 88-70 on Saturday.
