Xavier gets first win over No. 1 Villanova in 7 Big East tries

It took three seasons and seven tries for Xavier to finally get the one victory that had eluded it. And maybe tip the balance of power in the Big East, too.

J.P. Macura got Xavier rolling with 19 points off the bench, and freshman point guard Edmond Sumner had 19 points and nine assists as the fifth-ranked Musketeers knocked off top-ranked Villanova 90-83 on Wednesday night.

No. 1 Villanova pulls away for 89-79 win over Marquette

Villanova coach Jay Wright seemed relieved being able to leave Marquette with a victory.

The top-ranked Wildcats' trademark pressure defense forced the young Golden Eagles to get careless with the ball. But the Wildcats might also need some extra practice to avoid turnovers themselves.

Kris Jenkins scored 19 points, Josh Hart had 19 on 7-of-8 shooting, and Wright's team capitalized on turnovers to pull away for an 89-79 victory Saturday.

Seton Hall routs No. 5 Xavier in all but locking up NCAA bid

Seton Hall not only wrote an apparent ticket to the NCAA Tournament, it now has to be considered a legitimate threat to win the Big East Conference postseason get-together.

Desi Rodriguez had career-highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds and Seton Hall all but clinched its first NCAA Tournament berth in a decade with a stunning 90-81 victory over No. 5 Xavier on Sunday.

Jenkins and No. 3 Villanova romp over DePaul 83-62

No longer at the top of the national poll, Villanova is still No. 1 in the Big East.

Stitch another year on the championship banner, the Wildcats are again the class of the conference -- a familiar regular-season coronation they can only hope doesn't produce the same old early March exit.

Kris Jenkins scored 14 straight points and a career-high 31 overall, leading No. 3 Villanova to an 83-62 romp over DePaul on Tuesday night and the outright Big East championship.

No. 3 Villanova romps past Georgetown 84-71 in finale

Villanova turned its season finale into a championship bash.

The Wildcats pulled Big East title T-shirts over their jerseys, watched a season highlight video on the big screen, and then mobbed each other at midcourt and took turns hoisting the championship trophy.

It could all be a prelude to some net cutting ahead.

Josh Hart scored 18 points, Kris Jenkins had 17 and No. 3 Villanova closed out the regular season with an 84-71 win over Georgetown on Saturday.

No. 5 Xavier beats Creighton 98-93 for record-tying 26th win

Another big spurt helped fifth-ranked Xavier complete one of the best regular seasons in its history.

Trevon Bluiett hit a pair of 3s that got fifth-ranked Xavier going in the second half, and the Musketeers matched their school record for regular-season victories by beating Creighton 98-93 on Saturday.

No. 3 Villanova smothers Providence to reach Big East final

Nothing was going to get in Ryan Arcidiacono's way as No. 3 Villanova set its sights on another trip to the Big East championship game.

Not that pair of Providence stars -- and certainly not the press table.

Kris Jenkins scored 21 points and Villanova smothered Ben Bentil andKris Dunn on defense, advancing to the conference final with a 76-68 victory Friday night.

No. 4 Villanova begins title defense by routing Lafayette

Kris Jenkins hit a 3-pointer without much hoopla.

He wasn't mobbed by his Villanova teammates, and confetti didn't rain from the rafters. No streamers, no hysterical fans. Jenkins simply hustled back for a routine defensive assignment.

His first 3 of the game simply helped the Wildcats open the season the same way they ended the last one -- with a win.

Jalen Brunson scored 17 points, Jenkins had 16, and No. 4 Villanova opened the defense of its national championship with an 88-48 victory over Lafayette on Friday night.
