No. 21 Xavier holds on for 59-56 win over Missouri State

Paul Scruggs saw an opening and went to the basket for the shot that would finally give No. 21 Xavier some breathing room.

Scruggs scored 14 points and made a layup with 11.6 seconds left Friday night, helping the Musketeers hold off Missouri State for a 59-56 victory.

Ewing wins big again at MSG, Hoyas knock off No. 22 Texas

Patrick Ewing walked onto the Madison Square Garden court waving his arms and exhorting the crowd to cheer louder.

    Some chanted for the Hoyas.

But as the final seconds ticked off the clock, those booming chants turned to ones for the coach: "Patrick Ewing! Patrick Ewing! Patrick Ewing!"

Maybe this win wasn't as big for Ewing as beating the Pacers or the Bulls in playoff games. For a few moments for the former New York Knicks great, the Garden was home again.

"It felt like back in my Knick days," Ewing said.

Mac McClung scored 19 points to help give Ewing another signature moment at Madison Square Garden, leading Georgetown to an 82-66 victory over No. 22 Texas on Thursday night.

Jones leads No. 18 Xavier to 73-51 victory over Towson

No. 18 Xavier came down to the Charleston Classic with something to prove. The Musketeers took the first step toward that goal Thursday night.

Tyrique Jones had 12 and 12 rebounds as Xavier put away Towson 73-51 to start the eight-team tournament. The Musketeers have heard the questions some have about their undefeated start, about the close calls at home and lack of significant challenges early in their schedule.

Swider scores 26, No. 17 Villanova routs MTSU 98-69

It’s been awhile since No. 17 Villanova shot this well from long range. Cole Swider has never scored like this.

Swider scored a career-high 26 points with six 3-pointers, and the Wildcats routed Middle Tennessee 98-69 on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Myrtle Beach Invitational.

Carter's foul shots in 2OT lift No. 18 Xavier past UConn

Xavier seems to face a test almost every time it plays. The good thing for the 18th-ranked Musketeers is they have passed them all in their undefeated start.

Jason Carter hit two foul shots with 10.1 seconds left in the second overtime and Xavier survived once more with a 75-74 victory over UConn and into the Charleston Classic championship on Friday night.

No. 13 Seton Hall beats Southern Miss 81-56 in Atlantis

Myles Powell sensed 13th-ranked Seton Hall was still reeling after blowing a big lead and losing their Battle 4 Atlantis opener the night before.

"I feel like we were still stuck on the loss," Powell said.

Powell scored 18 points to help the Pirates beat Southern Miss 81-56 Thursday night in a losers' bracket game that was as much about Seton Hall's ability to move forward after a huge disappointment and find the edge that coach Kevin Willard thought was missing.

No. 13 Seton Hall beats Iowa State 84-76 at Atlantis

Myles Powell struggled to get in an early rhythm as No. 13 Seton Hall closed its three-game stay in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Yet the way coach Kevin Willard saw it, it was just a matter of time before he would.

Powell scored 19 of his 24 points after halftime to help Seton Hall beat Iowa State 84-76 in Friday night's fifth-place game, giving the Pirates two wins after an opening-round loss to No. 11 Oregon.

Moore, No. 22 Villanova ride big first half past La Salle

Coach Jay Wright has a talented but inexperienced team at Villanova this year, capable of being dangerous and maddening -- sometimes in the same game.

Justin Moore had 25 points off the bench, Saddiq Bey scored 19 and the 22nd-ranked Wildcats survived a sloppy second half to beat La Salle 83-72 on Sunday night.

Baldwin scores 31 as No. 24 Butler beats Ole Miss 67-58

Another big performance from Kamar Baldwin kept No. 24 Butler unbeaten after an early-season test in an SEC arena.

Baldwin scored a season-high 31 points and the Bulldogs opened a large lead in the second half before holding off Mississippi 67-58 on Tuesday night in a game they never trailed.

No. 23 Villanova holds off St. Joseph's surge, wins 78-66

Villanova nearly came undone completing an exhausting stretch of three games in six days against regional rivals.

Instead, the Wildcats found a final burst of energy, and that spoiled a frantic rally by their Main Line neighbors.

Saddiq Bey scored 22 points, Collin Gillespie had 20 and No. 23 Villanova held off a second-half comeback from Saint Joseph's to win 78-66 Saturday.
