    St. John's hits 14 3s to stop No. 10 Creighton, 91-71

Greg Williams Jr. drained his seventh 3-pointer from right in front of the St. John's bench, springing delirious teammates onto the court as he bounded into their arms during a timeout.

With an out-of-character shooting display from all over the gym, the Red Storm handed No. 10 Creighton a thorough beating that was hard to see coming.

Williams made seven 3s and scored a career-high 21 points as St. John's slowed down the streaking Bluejays in a 91-71 rout Sunday that marked its most lopsided win over a top-10 opponent in 28 years.

Creighton and North Dakota State warm up prior to an NCAA college basketball
game in Omaha, Neb., Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020

Marcus Zegarowski wasn't quite right, Denzel Mahoney was ailing, the 3-point shots weren't falling and the atmosphere for a season opener at home was blah.

No. 11 Creighton beat North Dakota State 69-58 Sunday, and style points were the least of Bluejays coach Greg

Moore scores 15, No. 12 Villanova routs Hartford 87-53

After his team's first loss of the season, Villanova coach Jay Wright wanted to give his bench more playing time against Hartford.

    His reserves responded.

Eric Dixon came off the bench to score 14 points and grab 10 rebounds and the 12th-ranked Wildcats used a balanced attack to rout the Hawks 87-53 on Tuesday. Villanova’s reserves outscored Hartford’s 40-12.

Marquette stuns No. 4 Wisconsin 67-65 on buzzer beater

Justin Lewis expected D.J. Carton to win the game for Marquette from the foul line.

When that didn’t happen, Lewis delivered in the nick of time, picking up his teammate and snapping No. 4 Wisconsin’s 11-game winning streak.

Lewis, a freshman, scored 18 points and converted a putback off Carton’s missed free throw at the buzzer as Marquette knocked off the Badgers 67-65 on Friday night.

The hard work already is paying off for Creighton's 7-foot freshman center.

Kalkbrenner turned in another strong performance off the bench Friday, scoring 14 points to help lead the ninth-ranked Bluejays past Kennesaw State 93-58.

No. 9 Villanova beats Georgetown 76-63 in Big East opener

Villanova is set to unpack the bags and head home.

The No. 9 Wildcats wrapped their longest road stretch to open a season in 17 years with a dominant second half that showcased why they’re a favorite to win the Big East — and maybe hang one more national championship banner in the Pavilion.

Collin Gillespie and Caleb Daniels each hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats past Georgetown 76-63 on Friday night in the Big East opener for both teams.

Marquette clamped down on Creighton's shooters in the second half, made a few adjustments on the offensive end and left CHI Health Center with its second win over a top-10 opponent in two weeks.

D.J. Carton scored a career-high 20 points, and Greg Elliott and Dawson Garcia combined for 23 of their 28 in the second half to lead the Golden Eagles past No. 9 Creighton 89-84 on Monday night.

Villanova beats Butler, 85-66, in home opener for Jay Wright’s 600th career win

Butler certainly didn’t look like a team that hadn’t played a basketball game in three weeks, coming out into an empty Finneran Pavilion and taking it to Villanova for most of the snowy night.

The seventh-ranked Wildcats played with the lead for much of the game but had to work for the first 35 minutes. But they spurted away late behind Collin Gillespie and captured an 85-66 win over the Bulldogs, the 600th career victory for coach Jay Wright.

Mask Up! Robinson-Earl shines with broken nose for Villanova

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl got a fitting reminder from mom to pick up an accessory for his 2020 breakout game: Don't forget your mask.

Robinson-Earl suffered a broken nose a game earlier for Villanova and didn't need the team's medical staff to fit him for his protective shield. His mom lives in the area and dropped off the same mask Robinson-Earl wore for games when he broke his nose in the eighth grade.

''She went right into the closet,'' Robinson-Earl said with a laugh.

Robinson-Earl scored 25 points with a broken nose, Caleb Daniels had 19 points and No. 7 Villanova beat Saint Joseph's 88-68 in a hastily-scheduled game Saturday night.
