Doug McDermott scores 35 as Creighton eases past DePaul

Doug McDermott is playing in New York City this week, just a few blocks from Broadway. And by the looks of it, he plans to put on a show.

The nation's leading scorer delivered Thursday night with a dazzling shooting display in his Big East tournament debut, scoring a record 27 of his 35 points in the first half for No. 14 Creighton during an 84-62 victory over DePaul at Madison Square Garden.

Sterling Gibbs beats buzzer as Seton Hall stuns No. 3 Villanova

The latest buzzer-beater at the Big East tournament belongs to a Seton Hall reserve with a familiar last name.

Doug McDermott leads No. 14 Creighton past stubborn Xavier

One of the Big East's original members will be playing one of its newest schools for the tournament championship.

Second-seeded and 14th-ranked Creighton, one of the three new schools in the 10-team conference that went under major reconfiguration, beat Xavier 86-78 Friday night and will face fourth-seeded Providence, the school where Big East founder Dave Gavitt was coach and athletic director.

Providence beats Creighton to win first Big East title since 1994

Bryce Cotton was No. 2 to Doug McDermott in the Big East all season. He's No. 1 now.

The senior guard scored 23 points and Providence won its first Big East tournament title since 1994 with a great defensive effort against McDermott and No. 14 Creighton in a 65-58 victory Saturday night.

Georgetown tops West Virginia 77-65 in NIT 1st rd

If nothing else, Georgetown's first-round NIT victory over West Virginia shows yet again that it's just too bad the Hoyas don't have a Goldilocks-size arena.

Their usual home, the Verizon Center, is too big. It's hosting the circus this week, so Tuesday's 77-65 win was played before 2,133 fans at their on-campus practice gym. It's far too small, but the students pack the place and create an ear-splitting home-court advantage the Hoyas rarely see.

Villanova prevails in rout as Milwaukee fades down stretch

Jay Wright can't figure it out and won't try. His Villanova Wildcats are headed to the third round of the NCAA tournament, and that's all that matters.

Darrun Hilliard scored 16 points, JayVaughn Pinkston added 13 and the Wildcats beat Milwaukee 73-53 on Thursday night in a game that was closer than the final score would indicate.

Ethan Wragge helps Creighton pull away with clutch 3-pointers

Doug McDermott scored in bunches and Ethan Wragge delivered the critical 3-pointers. Together they kept Creighton marching on, right back where they'd promised they'd be.

McDermott scored 30 points and Wragge made three huge momentum-changing shots in the second half, sending No. 3 seed Creighton to a tough 76-66 win over No. 14 Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday in the West Regional.

Doug McDermott makes 3rd AP team

Doug McDermott spent his senior season passing a lot of big names on the career scoring list. He is now among some very select company.

The senior forward from Creighton was a unanimous choice for The Associated Press All-America team on Monday. He is the first three-time choice in 29 years and the 11th player overall.

McDermott, who led the nation in scoring at 26.9 points a game, joins Oscar Robertson, Lew Alcindor, Pete Maravich and Bill Walton among others. The last three-time All-Americas were Patrick Ewing of Georgetown and Wayman Tisdale of Oklahoma from 1982-85.

    Marquette hires Steve Wojciechowski

Marquette found its replacement for Buzz Williams in Mike Krzyzewski's coaching tree.

The Golden Eagles introduced Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski as their next men's basketball coach Tuesday, with Krzyzewski's longtime right-hand man saying he wants to follow his mentor's lead while bringing his new program to similar heights.

Krzyzewski "allowed me to understand just how fun and incredible the game of basketball is, but when used the right way, how it can change your life," Wojciechowski said during his introductory news conference in Milwaukee. "I hope to do that here at Marquette."

No. 12 Villanova rallies past Lehigh 77-66

It was not the kind of homecoming Villanova senior guard Darrun Hilliard might have wanted.

Hilliard, who played his high school ball at nearby Bethlehem Liberty, shrugged off a tough shooting night to score six of his 10 points in a decisive 22-7 second-half run, as the No. 12 Wildcats rallied for a 77-66 victory over Lehigh in both teams' season opener Friday night.

Creighton rallies from 2nd-half deficit to shock 18th-ranked Sooners

Maybe Creighton isn't going to be so bad without Doug McDermott after all.

The Bluejays came back from an 18-point deficit in the second half to upset 18th-ranked Oklahoma 65-63 on Wednesday night. The victory set off a court-storming by the student section and kept the good times rolling for the sellout crowd of 17,393 that continues to come to CenturyLink Center in droves even after the departure of the program's biggest star.

No. 12 Villanova beats Bucknell 72-65

Villanova may not have expected to be in such a close game so early in the season. But the Wildcats knew exactly what to do once they got there.

Dylan Ennis scored 16 points, including four free throws in the final 30 seconds, as No. 12 Villanova survived a serious upset scare with a 72-65 win over Bucknell on Thursday night in the Progressive Legends Classic.
