No. 18 Michigan State edges Navy 64-59

Two wonderful days at the Naval Academy ended for Michigan State with a very ugly victory.

After touring the institution, eating at the mess hall and interacting with the Midshipmen on Thursday, No. 18 Michigan State struggled mightily during the business portion of the trip, squeezing past Navy 64-59 Friday night in the Veterans Classic.

No. 24 Michigan eases past Hillsdale 92-68

The highlight of Michigan's season opener may have come before the opening tip.

The 24th-ranked Wolverines raised their 2014 Big Ten championship banner before the game, celebrating another season of accomplishment before beating Division II Hillsdale 92-68 on Saturday. Michigan's new banner joins several others in the rafters -- including one commemorating a 2013 Final Four appearance and another for a conference title in 2012.

No. 24 Michigan sharp early, beats Bucknell 77-53

Although he didn't play at all in Michigan's season opener last weekend, Max Bielfeldt was beginning to make an impression behind the scenes.

''The last couple of days of practice, he's virtually been a man-child playing with our guys,'' coach John Beilein said. ''I made up my mind earlier (Sunday), he's the first big man off the bench.''

Bielfeldt scored 18 points Monday night, more than quadrupling his career high in No. 24 Michigan's 77-53 victory over Bucknell. Zak Irvin added 23 points for the Wolverines, who scored the game's first 10 points and never looked back.

No. 21 Huskers start slow, rout C. Arkansas 82-56

Nebraska's slog through the first half against Central Arkansas might have had the fans more worried than coach Tim Miles.

The 21st-ranked Cornhuskers won 82-56 on Tuesday night in a game that turned into a rout the last 10 minutes.

Nigel Hayes has 25 points, 11 rebounds to power No. 3 Wisconsin's rout

Nigel Hayes said that looking at his stats from last season, it was no wonder Wisconsin-Green Bay was playing off him and not respecting his shot.

Teams aren't going to be able to do that to Hayes anymore.

He scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help No. 3 Wisconsin beat Wisconsin-Green Bay 84-60 on Wednesday night.

No. 24 Michigan overcomes Howard, Detroit 71-62

Michigan avoided a spirited upset bid from a familiar name.

The 24th-ranked Wolverines scored 11 straight points late in the second half Thursday night to hold off Detroit 71-62. The Titans were led by Juwan Howard Jr., the son of the former Michigan star. He had 24 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough.

Kaminsky scores 26 as No. 3 Wisconsin beats Boise

Frank Kaminsky's first shot felt good. Same for the next one. And the next one. And so on.

Kaminsky scored 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting to lead No. 3 Wisconsin over Boise State 78-54 Saturday night. The 7-footer went 4 for 5 from 3-point range, and seemed just as comfortable with a fadeaway or on the fast break.

No. 19 Michigan tops Oregon 70-63 in Legends

Ricky Doyle got an earful from a New York crowd.

But this was no Bronx cheer. Doyle's gritty effort grabbing boards and scoring bruising buckets inside earned him some applause and had the Michigan fans chanting the freshman forward's name as he walked off the court a winner.

"I never really experienced anything like that," Doyle said.

Up next, he can try do it again with a championship at stake.

Zak Irvin scored 19 points and Caris LeVert added 18 to lead No. 19 Michigan to a 70-63 win over Oregon on Monday night.

    McNeil charged with felony assault

Minnesota sophomore guard Daquein McNeil was charged Wednesday with two felony counts of assault for allegedly choking his girlfriend and whipping her with a belt.

McNeil, 20, was being held in the Hennepin County jail. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday, the Star Tribune reported.

A criminal complaint accuses the Baltimore native of assaulting a woman he had been dating the past 10 months. The complaint said McNeil attacked the woman at her apartment on Monday, pouring alcohol and cold water on her repeatedly and eventually choking her and hitting her with a belt.

No. 2 Wisconsin easily gets past UAB, 72-43

The whistle blew and Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan immediately went into action, thrusting his arms straight up in protest of what he thought was an erroneous call.

Never mind that his team was up by 17 and putting on its usual display of defensive brilliance.

He wasn't satisfied and doesn't want his Badgers to be, either.

Frank Kaminsky had 16 points and eight rebounds, Duje Dukan scored 11 points and No. 2 Wisconsin had no trouble beating Alabama-Birmingham 72-43 in the Battle 4 Atlantis quarterfinals Wednesday night.

Loving's 18 help No. 16 Buckeyes roll over Camels

Only four games into the season, even coach Thad Matta is surprised by how many players are contributing for No. 16 Ohio State.

"I hope that we can stay with that," said the 15-year head coach, the last 11 with the Buckeyes. "I've always said this: The best teams I've ever coached had great balance."

Marc Loving scored a career-high 18 points and four teammates joined him in double figures as the Buckeyes beat Campbell 91-64 on Wednesday night.

No. 2 Badgers edge Georgetown in Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals

Duje Dukan thought he had created a turnover with a held ball. The referees said he was guilty of a foul instead.

It's a play that won't make highlight reels, won't get pointed to in any boxscore.

But it sparked No. 2 Wisconsin into finding a way to survive its first test this season.

Sam Dekker scored 17 points, Nigel Hayes' acrobatic tip-in with 20 seconds left capped his 15-point day, and Wisconsin overcame a nine-point second-half deficit to beat upset-minded Georgetown 68-65 on Thursday in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo wanted to get Denzel Valentine more involved in the offense and the plan worked.
