After his first college triple-double, Ohio State freshman D'Angelo Russell covered his ears when the questions turned to being a one-and-done player, shooting up on draft boards and being under the ever-watchful eye of NBA personnel.

While he didn't want to hear or talk about it, Russell gave basketball fans something to drool about Sunday with 23 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in No. 20 Ohio State's 79-60 victory over Rutgers.

Iowa could be primed for a big run the final month of the season.

Maryland could soon be in danger of a slide at the tail end of its first year in the Big Ten.

Aaron White scored 17 points, Adam Woodbury matched a career high with 16 and Iowa throttled 17th-ranked Maryland 71-55 on Sunday.

It was only fitting that a game featuring 18 lead changes and seven ties came down to the final shot.

    Or, rather, two shots.

Melo Trimble and Dez Wells each scored 18 points, and No. 19 Maryland edged Indiana 68-66 Wednesday night to earn a split of the season series.

Sam Thompson listened to praise about his outside shooting and almost took it as an insult.

"I can still jump a little bit," he said with a grin.

Thompson scored a career-high 22 points and D'Angelo Russell flirted with his second straight triple-double to lead No. 23 Ohio State past Penn State 75-55 on Wednesday night.

Frank Kaminsky started hot for Wisconsin, then Bronson Koenig and Nigel Hayes finished off Illinois.

Kaminsky had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and the fifth-ranked Badgers won 68-49 on Sunday to clinch the best start in school history.

A three-point win on the road was enough to put a postgame smile on the face of Maryland coach Mark Turgeon. Knowing he has three go-to players to carry the Terrapins was even more comforting.

Dez Wells scored 22 points, Melo Trimble had 20 and Jake Layman added 13 as No. 19 Maryland used strong shooting in the second half to scramble past Penn State 76-73 Saturday night.

Denzel Valentine's game-winning 3-pointer felt almost scripted, it being Feb. 14 and all.

That's not why Michigan State gave him the ball, of course. Valentine was his team's top perimeter threat all day, and with time running out in yet another tight game, the Spartans were more than happy to see the junior setting up for an open shot from beyond the arc.

"Most of the time he's taking the shot, and it's not up for debate anymore," coach Tom Izzo said. "He's got the size and he's got the skill."

Valentine's shot with 3.2 seconds remaining gave Michigan State a 59-56 victory over No. 23 Ohio State on Saturday, lifting the Spartans to a significant win as they try to secure an NCAA tournament berth. Sam Thompson had made a 3-pointer of his own for the Buckeyes, tying the game with 36 seconds left, but Michigan State patiently ran the clock down, and Valentine had room to shoot from to the right of the top of the key.

The 11-point halftime lead was long gone, and Maryland suddenly was tied with a surging Wisconsin team that hadn't lost in more than six weeks.

In other words, the Terrapins were in perfect position to come away with another tight victory.

Dez Wells scored 26 points, and No. 14 Maryland held off fifth-ranked Wisconsin 59-53 Tuesday night, ending the Badgers' 10-game winning streak and ruining their bid to clinch at least a share of the Big Ten title.

Coming off an inspiring win over Wisconsin, Maryland sputtered at the outset against Michigan and trailed for a good portion of the first half.

The 14th-ranked Terrapins did have this going for them: They were playing at home, and that turned out to be the advantage they needed.

Melo Trimble scored 19 points, and Maryland beat Michigan 66-56 Saturday to complete an undefeated season at home in the Big Ten.

Bo Ryan posed a playful question after the game while glancing at the box score.
"Who's that Kaminsky guy?" the Wisconsin coach asked.

That would be Frank Kaminsky, the athletic senior who had the best night of his impressive season in his last home game with the fifth-ranked Badgers.

Kaminsky scored 31 points, Nigel Hayes added 14 and Wisconsin clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season title with a 68-61 victory Sunday over Michigan State.

With talented freshman Melo Trimble having an off night and Rutgers threatening a major upset, Dez Wells almost single-handedly carried No. 10 Maryland to a sixth straight win.

Wells had 20 points and 10 rebounds and scored six straight after Rutgers tied the game late in the second half in leading the Terps to a much-harder than expected 60-50 victory over the Scarlet Knights on Tuesday.

Ohio State's Thad Matta tied a school record for coaching victories Wednesday night and quickly noted that players such as D'Angelo Russell make him a better coach.

Russell scored 28 points and No. 23 Ohio State's 77-67 victory over Penn State placed Matta in a tie with Fred Taylor with 297 wins against 91 defeats in 11 seasons with the Buckeyes. A victory Sunday over No. 6 Wisconsin would give Matta (399-122) his 400th career win. That was why he didn't cite any special significance just yet for his coaching numbers.

Wisconsin wasn't about to let up after clinching at least a tie for the Big Ten title last weekend

The Badgers had plenty of red-clad support with them on the road for inspiration. There was a certain 7-footer with all kinds of skills who helped a lot, too.

Frank Kaminsky had 25 points on 10-for-15 shooting plus seven assists, Sam Dekker added 20 points and No. 6 Wisconsin became regular season conference champions with a 76-63 victory over Minnesota on Thursday night.

Ohio State might only go as far as D'Angelo Russell can take the Buckeyes in the NCAA tournament.

So far, that's good enough to roll into the round of 32.

Russell scored 28 points to rally Ohio State from an early 12-point deficit, and the 10th-seeded Buckeyes beat seventh-seeded VCU 75-72 in overtime on Thursday.

At times, Michigan State showed off its tournament-tested look, getting out in transition and pushing back with poise after a run by its opponent.

At others, the Spartans were making mental mistakes and struggling to protect their late lead in a shaky finish that had coach Tom Izzo punching the scorer's table in fury.

"We're an interesting team," Izzo said.

And yet, Michigan State did enough to beat Georgia 70-63 on Friday in the NCAA tournament's round of 64 behind veterans Denzel Valentine, Travis Trice and Branden Dawson.

Varun Ram played 13 seconds of Maryland's first NCAA tournament game since 2010 and with one timely swipe earned a place in Terrapins' history.

The former walk-on thwarted Valparaiso's last shot attempt with a steal in the closing seconds to help Maryland hold off the determined Crusaders 65-62 on Friday.

Aaron White took a glimpse at the Davidson roster and every matchup he could possibly face was in his favor.

A big night was in order for Iowa's star. And once White got rolling, the Hawkeyes couldn't be stopped.

White scored 13 straight points as part of Iowa's 18-3 run early in the second half, and the seventh-seeded Hawkeyes rolled into the South Region round of 32 with an 83-52 rout of No. 10 seed Davidson on Friday.

Always one to downplay the significance of seedings in the NCAA tournament, Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan wasn't all that impressed when told his team made it another sweep for No. 1s against No. 16s.

"Survived again," Ryan deadpanned after his Badgers dispatched Coastal Carolina 86-72 on Friday night.
