No. 7 Maryland edges Northwestern 62-56 in overtime

Maryland made fewer baskets, got outrebounded and was admittedly not as tough as Northwestern.

So, when it came time for coach Mark Turgeon to make sense of it all, he had this to say about the seventh-ranked Terrapins' 62-56 victory Tuesday night:

No. 25 Indiana routs Illinois 103-69 on Ferrell's big night

Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell tried to stick to his normal routine Tuesday.

    Those around him refused.

On a night No. 25 Indiana broke its own conference record for most 3-pointers in a Big Ten game and topped 100 points against a league foe for the first time in nearly four years, Ferrell was the center of attention.

The senior point guard scored 16 points, made five 3s and finished with nine assists to break Michael Lewis' school record while leading the Hoosiers to a 103-69 rout over Illinois.

No. 11 Spartans fall to Huskers as Denzel Valentine misses at buzzer

Shavon Shields earned a day of rest.

Shields scored 28 points, playing through hip pain, and Denzel Valentinemissed a shot near the top of the key just before the buzzer to allow Nebraska to hold on for a 72-71 win over No. 11 Michigan State on Wednesday night.

Thompson's charge leads No. 22 Purdue past Ohio St. 75-64

Purdue's P.J. Thompson played big Thursday night when his taller, better known teammates needed him most.

Twice, he drew critical fouls on Ohio State. Twice, he made the two free throws. And twice, he delivered devastating 3-pointers.

On a night No. 22 Purdue struggled offensively, the usually light-scoring Thompson bailed out his teammates by scoring 10 of his 12 points in a decisive final flurry to give the Boilermakers a 75-64 victory over Ohio State.

Jok has a career-high 29 as No. 9 Iowa beats Rutgers

With Rutgers coming off its worst home loss, Iowa junior guard Peter Jok understood that the No. 9 Hawkeyes were going to be pushed a little by the struggling Scarlet Knights.

The Hawkeyes handled it with a big game from Jok.

He scored a career-high 29 points and Iowa shook off pesky Rutgers in the second half in posting a harder-than-expected 90-76 victory on Thursday night.

No. 11 Michigan State beats No. 7 Maryland, ends 3-game skid

Bryn Forbes pump-faked, put the ball on the floor and lofted a shot through the hoop.

The slumping shooting guard bounced back and No. 11 Michigan State did, too.

Forbes scored 25 points and Denzel Valentine had 19 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Spartans in a 74-65 win over No. 7 Maryland on Saturday night.

Ferrell leads No. 25 Indiana to 89-57 rout over Northwestern

Indiana coach Tom Crean has simplified his game plan.

He expects the Hoosiers to move the ball, move without the ball and play with confidence.

The combination is working perfectly. On Saturday, Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell scored 17 points, had six more assists and led No. 25 Indiana to an 89-57 blowout over Northwestern, the Hoosiers' 12th consecutive victory.

No. 9 Iowa rolls past No. 22 Purdue 83-71

Jarrod Uthoff kept No. 9 Iowa from falling too far behind.

Once his teammates joined in, Purdue didn't stand a chance.

Uthoff scored 13 of his 22 points in the first half and Iowa toppled No. 22 Purdue 83-71 Sunday for its ninth straight win.

Hayes leads way, Wisconsin beats No. 19 Indiana 82-79 in OT

In a season of upheaval, Wisconsin has finally found its groove.

The frontcourt is leading the way.

Nigel Hayes scored 31 points, Ethan Happ added 25 and the Badgers snapped No. 19 Indiana's 12-game winning streak with an 82-79 victory in overtime on Tuesday night.

No. 21 Purdue tops Minnesota 68-64 with 24 points by Edwards

Purdue wasn't at full strength with freshman standout Caleb Swanigan on the bench. The Boilermakers weren't at full attention, either, considering how many times Minnesota dribbled by them for layups and dunks.

Vince Edwards was in fine shooting form, though, and that was enough to beat the Gophers.

Edwards scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help No. 21 Purdue hang on for a 68-64 victory on Wednesday night, bouncing back from a loss to Big Ten leader Iowa for the second time this month.

No. 12 Michigan State makes 16 3s, beats Northwestern 76-45

The 15 turnovers bothered Michigan State coach Tom Izzo very much. Same for the Spartans' disparity at the line against Northwestern, and a few issues with the shot clock.

    The shooting was very impressive.

Denzel Valentine made five of Michigan State's season-high 16 3-pointers, and the 12th-ranked Spartans clamped down on sliding Northwestern for a 76-45 victory Thursday night.

No. 8 Maryland rallies to stop No. 3 Iowa's 9-game winning streak

Coming off a rare defeat and hosting the third-ranked team in the country, Maryland didn't care much about putting on a show for the sellout crowd and a national television audience.

    All that mattered was winning.

Robert Carter Jr. and Rasheed Sulaimon each scored 17 points, and No. 8 Maryland used a late charge to beat Iowa 74-68 on Thursday night, ending the Hawkeyes' nine-game winning streak.

No. 21 Purdue beats Nebraska 89-74 behind Hammons' 32

When A.J. Hammons plays the way he did Saturday, No. 21 Purdue has an opportunity to beat most of college basketball's elite.

Hammons scored a career-best 32 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had five assists and blocked four shots, leading the Boilermakers to an 89-74 victory over Nebraska.

Bryant helps No. 19 Hoosiers hold off Gophers for 74-68 win

Indiana's Thomas Bryant got down and dirty Saturday and looked good doing it.

He scored points, banged inside, played defense and jump-started the Hoosiers' sometimes anemic offense at three key points.

The freshman center had a career-high 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and scored the go-ahead basket on a putback with 1:56 left to help No. 19 Indiana fend off Minnesota's frantic second-half rally for a 74-68 victory.

Michigan State makes 17 3-pointers in 96-62 win over Rutgers

After three consecutive victories, Michigan State has reached a break in its schedule, and the Spartans will have five days off before facing rival Michigan next weekend.

"This week we won't work on shooting," coach Tom Izzo said. "We'll work on trying to guard somebody."

The 12th-ranked Spartans tied a school record with 17 3-pointers in a 96-62 victory over Rutgers on Sunday night. Bryn Forbes scored all 18 of his points in the first half, and Denzel Valentine finished with 20.

Trimble leads No. 8 Maryland past Ohio State 66-61

The freshmen on the Maryland roster had no idea what it would mean to get a victory at Ohio State.

Senior forward Jake Layman not only told them, but showed the way when the No. 8 Terrapins beat the Buckeyes 66-61 on Sunday to ease the memory of painful losses in Columbus.

Indiana beats Michigan 80-67 after huge run to end 1st half

Facing an early double-digit deficit in a tough environment, Indiana coach Tom Crean still felt fairly confident.

"I didn't have any panic. We were getting great shots, they just weren't going in," Crean said.

The 22nd-ranked Hoosiers regrouped and rallied, finishing the first half with 25 straight points en route to an 80-67 victory over Michigan on Tuesday night.

Uthoff leads No. Iowa over Penn State 73-49

Iowa's scorers often get the attention, but it's the fifth-ranked Hawkeyes' aggressive and trapping defense that is making the difference this season.

And Iowa is converting turnovers and missed shots -- and sometimes even made baskets -- into quick and easy points on the other end.

Jarrod Uthoff scored 14 points and Adam Woodbury had a career-high 15 rebounds to help Iowa roll past Penn State 73-49 on Wednesday night.

Stone, Trimble lift No. 4 Maryland to 70-65 win over Huskers

Maryland found itself in yet another close game, and once again the Terrapins hung on to win.

Freshman Diamond Stone had 16 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high eight blocks in the fourth-ranked Terrapins' 70-65 victory over Nebraska on Wednesday night.
