Blackmon leads No. 11 Indiana over No. 3 Kansas

This one certainly didn't feel like a season-opener to Tom Crean.

James Blackmon, Jr. scored 22 of his 26 points after halftime to lift No. 11 Indiana to a season-opening 103-99 overtime victory over No. 3 Kansas on Friday night in the Armed Forces Classic.

Trimble scores 22 as No. 25 Maryland beats American 62-56

After shuffling players on and off the court all night, Maryland coach Mark Turgeon noticed that he had four freshmen in the game with the outcome hanging in the balance.

"I was like, `Dang, I must really believe in this group," Turgeon said. "But the guys who finished the game I thought were playing the best."

Melo Trimble scored 22 points, freshman Anthony Cowan added 12 and No. 25 Maryland used a late salvo to slip past American 62-56 on Friday night.

No. 6 Indiana blows out UMass Lowell, 100-78

When Indiana tipped off its regular season home opener, it looked like the sixth-ranked Hoosiers returned from Honolulu empty-handed.

Just five days removed from defeating then-No. 3 Kansas in the Armed Forces Classic, Indiana started Wednesday night's game flat on offense, slow on defense, and for much of the first 10 minutes, played mediocre basketball. The Hoosiers looked tired, searching for the momentum that carried them past Kansas.

"When you're coming off a great win like we had, you think the (next) game is going to be easier, but it's not," Indiana coach Tom Crean said, adding that it felt like his team hit a wall.

James Blackmon Jr. got Indiana (2-0) over that wall. Blackmon Jr. made five 3-pointers, scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 100-78 victory over UMass Lowell.

Brown scores 12 as No. 9 Badgers dispatch Chicago State

Vitto Brown hadn't even broken a sweat when Wisconsin coach Greg Gard pulled the forward and fellow starter Ethan Happ just more than a minute into Thursday night's game with Chicago State.

But the move sent a message.

Brown ending up scoring 12 points to lead No. 9 Wisconsin as the Badgers shook off some uneven play from their starters to beat the Cougars 69-51.

Boilermakers close with 20-0 run to beat Georgia State

During Matt Painter's 12 seasons coaching Purdue, the Boilermakers have suffered shocking home losses to Wofford, Bucknell and Gardner-Webb.

With 7:08 remaining in Friday night's game against Georgia State, Purdue trailed 56-44 and was in danger of falling to 1-2 after making only two of its first 18 attempts from 3-point range.

But with Caleb Swanigan finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds, the Boilermakers (2-1) closed the game with a 20-0 run to salvage a 64-56 victory in an on-campus Cancun Challenge game.

Bridges-led No. 13 Michigan State tops Miss Valley St 100-53

Miles Bridges missed a free throw, got to the loose ball, dribbled through the lane and leaped to make a backboard-shaking dunk that got Magic Johnson out of his seat.

Bridges scored 21 of his 24 points in the first half, grabbed 11 rebounds and had six assists in his home debut for No. 13 Michigan State in an 100-53 win over Mississippi Valley State on Friday night.

Wisconsin beats Tennessee 74-62 to open Maui Invitational

Wisconsin jumped out to a big early lead, only to see Tennessee put together two runs to take the lead.

The Badgers are a veteran team, though, and they managed to keep their calm during the Vols' storm.

Bronson Koenig scored 21 points, Nigel Hayes had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 16 Wisconsin opened the Maui Invitational with a 74-62 win over Tennessee on Monday.

No. 17 Purdue pulls away from Utah State, 85-64

    - Isaac Haas is feeling it.

If the Purdue center has the ball in his hands, it's either going right through the hoop or he's kicking it out to one of his sharpshooting teammates waiting on the perimeter to do the same.

Haas scored 26 points and Dakota Mathias added 25, both career highs, as No. 17 Purdue beat Utah State 85-64 in the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday night.

No. 17 Purdue hits 17 3-pointers to rout Auburn in Cancun

With 7-foot-2 Isaac Haas clogging the middle, No. 17 Purdue figures to get plenty of chances to show it can shoot from the outside.

The Boilermakers responded Wednesday night with a dizzying display of 3-point shooting.

Carsen Edwards broke out of his shooting slump with 21 points and Purdue shot 17 of 26 from 3-point range to beat Auburn 96-71 and capture the Cancun Challenge title.

No. 24 Spartans top Red Storm 73-62 at Battle 4 Atlantis

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo can see the positives and negatives all jumbled together for his 24th-ranked Spartans, from the good stretches where the ball goes inside to the bad ones when his team fires up quick 3-point attempts.

"It's still not smooth for us," the Hall of Fame coach said after Wednesday's 73-62 victory over St. John's in the Battle 4 Atlantis. "It might not be for a while."

No. 24 Spartans hold off Shockers 77-72 in Battle 4 Atlantis

Michigan State spent the first 30 minutes playing with energy and building a huge lead, then the last 10 nearly giving it all away.

Still, the 24th-ranked Spartans came away from the Battle 4 Atlantis with a win -- and the end of a brutally tough opening month of the schedule in sight.

Miles Bridges scored 21 points to help Michigan State hold off Wichita State 77-72 on Friday in the Battle 4 Atlantis third-place game.

Swanigan's double-double leads No. 17 Purdue past NJIT

When the season began, No. 17 Purdue knew it had two of the nation's best big men in 6-foot-8 sophomore power forward Caleb Swanigan and 7-2 junior center Isaac Haas.

What the Boilermakers did not kmow was what kind of production they would receive from their perimeter players. After this week's Cancun Challenge, coach Matt Painter may have found the answer.

Swanigan had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and freshman guard Carsen Edwardsadded 19 points, leading Purdue to a 79-68 victory over NJIT on Saturday.

Hayes scores 17, Wisconsin rolls over Prairie View A&M 95-50

Nigel Hayes was 5 of 5 from the field on Sunday. Notably, none of those shots came from outside.

Hayes, who has struggled with his 3-point shot this season, was dominant inside as he scored a season-high 17 points to lead No. 16 Wisconsin to a 95-50 win over Prairie View A&M.
