Ohio State outlasts South Dakota State 81-73 in West Region

Ohio State is not a 3-point shooting team. The Buckeyes don't take a lot, don't make a lot.

Back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years, the Buckeyes went all-in on the 3, casting it up 40 times. The last couple they tried, both by Kam Williams, helped push Ohio State into the round of 32.

Williams made a tiebreaking four-point play with 1:36 left, then added a trio of free throws after being fouled on another 3 attempt, lifting Ohio State to an 81-73 victory over South Dakota State in the West Region on Thursday.

    Poole's buzzer-beating sends Michigan past Houston, 64-63

The unflappable freshman with swag to spare let loose a long 3-pointer just as the buzzer sounded, watched it splash through the net and took off on a dead sprint around the arena.

"I saw everybody celebrating," Michigan's Jordan Poole said later, "and I always thought if I hit a shot like that, I didn't want to get tackled. So I tried to avoid everybody."

He finally gave up, allowing the sweetest of parties to truly begin.

Poole's buzzer-beater, which came after Houston squandered a chance to lock up a spot in the Midwest Region semifinals, lifted the third-seeded Wolverines to a 64-63 victory Saturday night -- and left longtime coach John Beilein struggling to find the right words.

Purdue wins without Haas, holds off Butler 76-73

Without Isaac Haas, Purdue played fine for the most part.

Until the last few minutes, when the Boilermakers' season nearly slipped away.

"We lost our poise there, but then we also regained it," coach Matt Painter said. "And Dakota Mathias made a huge shot."

Mathias sank a 3-pointer with 14.2 seconds left, and second-seeded Purdue held off 10th-seeded Butler 76-73 on Sunday to reach the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year. Haas, the 7-foot-2 center who broke his elbow in Friday's win over Cal State Fullerton, did not play, but the Boilermakers prevailed anyway despite a late push by their in-state rivals

Streaking Michigan routs Texas A&M 99-72 in West semifinals

Michigan took all the drama out of this NCAA Tournament victory, burying Texas A&M under a barrage of 3-point shots.

After reaching the round of 16 with an improbable buzzer-beater, the Wolverines shot 62 percent from the floor and routed the Aggies 99-72 in the West Region semifinals on Thursday night to advance to the Elite Eight for the third time in six years.

Oh Blue!: Michigan nips Florida St 58-54 to reach Final Four

Moe Wagner climbed the ladder, snipped the final strand and whipped the net around his head while thousands of Michigan's West Coast fans roared.

The Wolverines hadn't caused much disturbance to those nets at Staples Center during the West Region final. They also knew it didn't matter, because Florida State troubled the twine even less.

When shots aren't falling, Michigan knows it can rely on defense, discipline and tenacity. And by doing all the hard things, the Wolverines muscled their way to the Final Four.

Charles Matthews scored 17 points and Michigan earned its first Final Four berth since 2013 with a 58-54 victory over the Seminoles on Saturday night.

Wagner, Michigan end Loyola's run 69-57 in Final Four

Staring down a 10-point, second-half deficit against an underdog that seemed nothing short of blessed during the madness of March, Moe Wagner and Michigan clamped down on Loyola-Chicago and ended one of the most memorable NCAA Tournament runs ever.

Wagner scored 24 points, Charles Matthews added 17 and the Wolverines rallied to beat the Ramblers 69-57 Saturday night in the Final Four.

Minnesota big man Eric Curry out 4-6 weeks after knee surgery

Minnesota forward Eric Curry will miss four to six weeks after knee surgery.

Coach Richard Pitino said Monday that Curry's surgery went as planned. The 6-foot-9 sophomore from Memphis, Tennessee, redshirted the 2017-18 season after tearing the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee during a summer pickup game. As a freshman, Curry played in all 34 games in a reserve role and was third on the team in rebounds and blocks.

Brazdeikis leads No. 19 Michigan over Holy Cross 56-37

Brazdeikis scored 19 points, Charles Matthews added 20 and No. 19 Michigan held off Holy Cross 56-37.

Tom Izzo decries 'stoppage of action' in No. 10 Spartans' rout

Two games into the season, Tom Izzo has already had it with how college basketball is being officiated.

And he doesn't blame the referees.

"I felt bad for our fans, I felt bad for their team, I felt a little bad for our team, and I felt really bad for the officials," Izzo said. "I've been here 24 years as a head coach, and not sure I ever felt bad for an official."

Nick Ward had 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Joshua Langford added 18 points to lead No. 10 Michigan State to a 106-82 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday night. But Izzo didn't feel the game was especially pleasant to watch. The teams combined for 50 free throws, and FGCU's Haanif Cheatham was ejected late in the first half. Izzo didn't hold back afterward, voicing his concern about what happens to the flow of the game if so many flagrant fouls -- and monitor reviews -- stop play.

Hoosiers defense shuts down No. 24 Marquette in 96-73 upset

Indiana coach Archie Miller challenged his defense to play with the same intensity and passion they showed last week.

The encore performance was even better.

The Hoosiers dominated one of the nation's most potent offenses by forcing a string of early turnovers, drawing fouls and converting miscues into points in a 96-73 blowout over No. 24 Marquette on Wednesday night.
