Iowa hands No. 16 Ohio State its 3rd straight loss, 72-62

Iowa and Ohio State are trending in completely different directions.

That's great news for the Hawkeyes -- and terrible news for the suddenly scuffling Buckeyes.

Luka Garza scored 16 points, Tyler Cook had 15 points with eight rebounds and Iowa rolled past No. 16 Ohio State 72-62 on Saturday, handing the Buckeyes their third straight loss.

Nick Ward leads No. 6 Michigan State over Penn State, 71-56

Tom Izzo wasn't impressed with much of No. 6 Michigan State's double-digit victory over Penn State.

The Spartans built a big lead early and dominated at times in the paint in their 71-56 win on Sunday. From Izzo's standpoint, that's all they did well and that won't be enough for the Spartans to be the team they want to be.

No. 2 Michigan now 17-0 after 80-60 win over Northwestern

Zavier Simpson is Michigan's gritty point guard, and Jon Teske is the 7-foot-1 center. Together, they anchor the Wolverines' stellar defense.

When they suddenly start making 3-pointers as well, there's not much an opponent can do.

Simpson scored a career-high 24 points and Teske tied a career high with 17, leading No. 2 Michigan to an 80-60 victory over Northwestern on Sunday night. Simpson made five 3-pointers and Teske made three. With the win, the Wolverines are off to their best start in program history.

No. 19 Maryland squeezes past Wisconsin 64-60

Ranked again for the first time since early December, Maryland looked every bit like an AP Top 25 team against Wisconsin- for 30 minutes.

    After that, not so much.

Anthony Cowan Jr. hit a pivotal 3-pointer with 44 seconds left, and the No. 19 Terrapins pulled out a 64-60 victory Monday night after blowing a 21-point lead in the second half.

Garza's 22 lead No. 23 Iowa over Penn State 89-82

With plenty of time left on the shot clock and his team nursing a slight lead late, Iowa guard Jordan Bohannonprobably could've been more patient.

His coach is glad he wasn't.

Bohannon stepped back with 36 seconds left and drained his fifth 3-pointer of the night to clinch the No. 23 Hawkeyes' 89-82 win over Penn State on Wednesday night.

    Winston's career-high 29 lifts No. 6 Spartans over Huskers

Four nights after Tom Izzo called out Cassius Winston for his poor play in Michigan State's previous game, the Spartans' star point guard responded better than his coach would have expected.

Winston scored a career-high 29 points to go over 1,000 for his career, had six assists and played tough defense on Glynn Watson Jr. while leading No. 6 Michigan State past Nebraska 70-64 on Thursday night.

No. 19 Maryland tops Ohio State 75-61 for 7th straight win

Maryland's depth and shooting touch were too much for Ohio State.

Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 20 points, and the 19th-ranked Terrapins won their seventh straight game, 75-61 over the skidding Buckeyes on Friday night.

Wieskamp scores 24, No. 23 Iowa routs Illinois 95-71

Midway through the second half, an Iowa fan won a half-court challenge with a swish at the buzzer.

The Hawkeyes' hot shooting must have been contagious.

Freshman Joe Wieskamp matched a career high with 24 points and No. 23 Iowa shot 68 percent from the field in routing Illinois 95-71 on Sunday for its fifth straight victory.

Matthews beats buzzer, No. 5 Michigan edges Minnesota 59-57

The ball bounced right to Charles Matthews, who dribbled once and squared up to shoot as the game clock -- and more importantly, the shot clock -- neared zero.

"I saw the clock when I did get the ball. I'm not sure exactly how much time, but I did know that there was time on the clock," Matthews said. "So I didn't want to just throw up a crazy shot. I wanted to still follow through with it."

Matthews used up what little time he had, then made a baseline floater at the buzzer to lift No. 5 Michigan to a 59-57 win over Minnesota on Tuesday night.

No. 6 Michigan State blows past No. 19 Iowa, 82-67

Iowa had the crowd rocking and plenty of momentum on its side.

But sixth-ranked Michigan State had the necessary toughness, blowing past the upstart Hawkeyes in a vintage Tom Izzo performance on the road.

Cassius Winston scored 23 points, Nick Ward had 21 points with 10 rebounds and the Spartans beat No. 19 Iowa 82-67 on Thursday night, extending their winning streak to 13 games.

No. 5 Michigan keeps rolling with 69-46 win at Indiana

No. 5 Michigan started fast Friday night and never let up.

It was everything coach John Beilein hoped to see at Indiana.

The Wolverines' defense was virtually impenetrable, the offense was balanced and they delivered the knockout punch right from the start. Ignas Brazdeikis scored 20 points, Zavier Simpson added 12 and after scoring the first 17 points of the game, Michigan pulled away for a 69-46 victory.

Dosunmu, Illinois beat No. 13 Maryland 78-67 at MSG

Illinois' players and coaches jogged through a mob of outstretched hands on their way off the Madison Square Garden court, basking in the smiles and shouts of congratulations.

This victory on that stage? Nothing wrong with letting that sink in.

"That was a great character win for our basketball team," Illinois coach Brad Underwood said after the Fighting Illini beat No. 13 Maryland 78-67 on Saturday.

Murphy, Coffey lead Minnesota past No. 19 Iowa 92-87

From the perimeter to the post and back out again, Minnesota sliced up Iowa's defense by zipping the ball all over the court.

As the Hawkeyes reached the midpoint of their Big Ten schedule, the Gophers provided another reminder that there aren't any breaks in the conference slate.

Jordan Murphy and Amir Coffey each scored 23 points to help Minnesota hang on and beat No. 19 Iowa 92-87 on Sunday, handing the Hawkeyes their second defeat in four nights.

Purdue fends off late charge, tops No. 6 Michigan St 73-63

First, Purdue took a page from Michigan State's playbook.

Then Nojel Eastern rewrote the script.

Ryan Cline scored 17 points and Eastern overcame his season-long free throw troubles by making six straight down the stretch to help the Boilermakers fend off a frantic late charge and hang on for a 73-63 upset Sunday over the sixth-ranked Spartans.

Simpson's triple-double lifts No. 5 Michigan over Ohio State

Kaleb Wesson was alone behind the defense, with a chance for an easy dunk or layup.

Zavier Simpson -- 9 inches shorter -- never gave up on the play.

"He just competes," Michigan coach John Beilein said. "He's relentless in his desire to win."

Simpson hustled back and blocked Wesson's shot , and soon after that, No. 5 Michigan broke the game open against rival Ohio State, beating the Buckeyes 65-49 on Tuesday night. In addition to that blocked shot, Simpson finished with a triple-double -- 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. The Michigan point guard also had no turnovers in 35:51 of action in an emotionally charged game.
