No. 3 Maryland rallies from 15 down, beats Illinois 59-58

No. 3 Maryland couldn’t help but like the way its Big Ten opener against Illinois ended.

How the Terrapins got there -- not so great.

Anthony Cowan Jr. hit a tying 3-pointer in the final 20 seconds and a go-ahead free throw with 2.1 seconds left as Maryland rallied from a 15-point deficit for a 59-58 victory Saturday.

Winston scores 23 points, No. 11 Michigan State tops Rutgers

No. 11 Michigan State pulled away and beat Rutgers thanks to two staples of Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo's program.

    Defense and rebounding.

Cassius Winston had 23 points and seven assists, helping the Spartans top the Scarlet Knights 77-65 on Sunday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Watkins, Stevens lead Penn State over No. 4 Maryland

At 6-foot-9, Mike Watkins always stands out in a crowd. Even one that’s made up of hundreds of screaming fans.

Watkins pumped his fists as swarms of his classmates poured onto the court after Penn State joined a series of unranked teams to knock off top-5 opponents this season, beating No. 4 Maryland 76-69 on Tuesday night.

Tillman, Henry lead No. 16 Michigan State past Oakland 72-49

Michigan State and Oakland have one of the most lopsided rivalries in college basketball. It also is one of the friendliest.

With Saturday's 72-49 victory at Little Caesars Arena, Tom Izzo and the No. 16 Spartans (7-3) are now 18-0 against Greg Kampe's Golden Grizzlies, with all 18 games coming in the last 21 years.

Minnesota knocks off No. 3 Ohio State 84-71

With an eight-day break between games, Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann was wary of this trip to Minnesota despite the roll his team had been on.

The third-ranked Buckeyes had the kind of flat performance Holtmann was worried about, and -- Poof! -- their perfect record was gone, thanks to an all-around effort by the Gophers.

Marcus Carr scored a career-high 35 points and Daniel Oturu had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Minnesota toppled undefeated and third-ranked Ohio State 84-71 on Sunday for coach Richard Pitino's first win against a top-five team.

No. 5 Buckeyes bounce back, rout Southeast Missouri State

Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann was interested to see how his team would bounce back after suffering its first loss of the season on Sunday at Minnesota.

Holtmann was not impressed, however, after his Buckeyes committed 13 first-half turnovers and led struggling Southeast Missouri State by just nine points at halftime.

But the fifth-ranked Buckeyes pulled it together with a commanding 22-2 second-half run and pulled away for an 80-48 victory over the visiting Redhawks.

Jones helps No. 23 Penn State dominate Central Connecticut

More than two decades had passed since Penn State celebrated a win as a ranked team in basketball.

The 23rd-ranked Nittany Lions, who snapped their 23-year drought with an 87-58 win over Central Connecticut on Friday, believe they can sustain their best stretch of play in coach Patrick Chambers' nine seasons.

No. 5 Ohio State outlasts No. 6 Kentucky 71-65

Ohio State slid in for charges and blocked shots, dove on the floor for loose balls, jumped into passing lanes for steals.

Doing all the little things was just what the Buckeyes needed in game that felt like late March, not late December.

D.J. Carton had 13 points, Kaleb Wesson added 12 before fouling out and No. 5 Ohio State outlasted No. 6 Kentucky 71-65 in the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday.

Livers hurt, but No. 14 Michigan beats Presbyterian 86-44

Isaiah Livers went up for a dunk and missed, drawing a foul in the process. Then he walked around looking gimpy and holding his left leg.

Not what Michigan needed in what was otherwise a routine victory.

Livers left early in the first half, but that was the only real problem for the 14th-ranked Wolverines in an 86-44 win over Presbyterian on Saturday. Michigan described the injury as a muscle strain, and coach Juwan Howard didn't have much information afterward.

Loyer scores 16 points, Michigan State rolls without Winston

Without his star point guard, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo went with some notable coaches' sons Sunday night to run his offense.

And though they are a far cry from senior All-American Cassius Winston, Foster Loyer and Jack Hoiberg acquitted themselves quote nicely for the Spartans.

Loyer, the son of former Pistons coach John Loyer, and Hoiberg, the son of former Bulls and current Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg, combined for 12 assists and one turnover to help No. 14 Michigan State run away from Western Michigan 95-62.

No. 13 Maryland shakes off slow start, handles Bryant 84-70

    - Chol Marial hardly played during his final two years of high school and missed Maryland's first 12 games in his freshman season following surgery on both legs.

The 7-foot-2 center from South Sudan has finally arrived.

Marial was welcomed with an ovation in his college debut and dunked less than a minute after entering as the 13th-ranked Terrapins beat Bryant 84-70 Sunday.
