Without Livers, Michigan dominates UMass Lowell 86-60

With Isaiah Livers out because of an injury, Michigan coach Juwan Howard went big.

That was a problem for undermanned UMass Lowell.

Jon Teske had 25 points and eight rebounds, and the 7-foot-1 senior center and his towering teammates created headaches as No. 11 Michigan overpowered the River Hawks 86-60 Sunday to close the nonconference schedule.

No. 25 Iowa routs Kennesaw State 93-51

Sometimes, Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said, teams can come back from Christmas break and not be focused.

He knew that wasn't going to happen with the Hawkeyes in Sunday's game against Kennesaw State.

The No. 25 Hawkeyes were sharp in a 93-51 home win to close the non-conference portion of their schedule.

Watkins leads No. 20 Penn State over Cornell 90-59

The smile on Mike Watkins’ face was nearly as large as the slam dunk Penn State’s big man had just thrown down.

Watkins capped off the nonconference schedule with another highlight-worthy dunk -- a powerful first-half alley-oop -- and had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the 20th-ranked Nittany Lions’ 90-59 win over Cornell on Sunday.

Wisconsin rallies late to upset No. 5 Ohio State 61-57

Nate Reuver's jumper finally wrested the lead away from Ohio State with 1:54 left in the game, and the Wisconsin forward hit four free throws in the last 14 seconds to seal a road upset of the No. 5 Buckeyes.

Reuvers scored 17 points and keyed the late rally in a 61-57 win on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd that opened the grueling Big Ten stretch for both teams.

Winston-led No. 14 Michigan State tops No. 12 Michigan 87-69

Cassius Winston made his last home game against Michigan memorable with a sensational performance his in-state rivals would rather forget.

Winston had a career-high 32 points and nine assists, leading No. 14 Michigan State to a 87-69 victory over the 12th-ranked Wolverines on Sunday.

No. 12 Maryland grinds past No. 11 Ohio State 67-55

One of these days, Maryland will run the fast break to perfection, show a precise shooting eye from the outside and score a whole bunch of points.

Until that time, the Terrapins will continue to rely upon their defense to win. And that's just fine with coach Mark Turgeon, who has no problem waiting for Maryland to perform efficiently on both ends of the court.

Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 20 points, and the 12th-ranked Terrapins used an unyielding defensive performance to defeat No. 11 Ohio State 67-55 Tuesday night and remain unbeaten at home.

No. 19 Michigan survives double overtime against Purdue

Juwan Howard knew he was getting a hard-nosed point guard when he took over as coach at his alma mater.

In Michigan's senior point guard Zavier Simpson, he also saw some of himself.

Howard used astrology to explain his bond with Simpson, who scored 22 points and made big shots late to lift the 19th-ranked Wolverines to an 84-78 victory over Purdue in a double-overtime thriller on Thursday night.

Winston leads No. 8 Michigan St to 74-58 win over Minnesota

No. 8 Michigan State started slowly against Minnesota, looking sluggish coming off a big win over its rival.

Cassius Winston made sure the Spartans made up for that.

Winston scored 18 of his 27 points in the second half while Xavier Tillman finished with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, leading Michigan State to a 74-58 win over Minnesota on Thursday night.

Green, Phinisee lead Indiana past No. 11 Ohio State 66-54

Indiana coach Archie Miller promised to make changes Saturday.

He doubled down with one move: giving Rob Phinisee his first start of the season and bringing Devonte Green off the bench. It worked perfectly.

Phinisee gave the Hoosiers the offensive jolt they needed early by making his first three 3-pointers, and Green delivered the finishing touch with 11 points in the final 10 minutes to send Indiana past No. 11 Ohio State 66-54. The Buckeyes have lost four in a row.

Potter leads Wisconsin to 58-49 win over No. 20 Penn State

Heading into a key stretch and coming off a tough loss, Wisconsin needed a big performance Saturday at Penn State.

    Micah Potter delivered.

The reserve forward scored 18 of his career-best 24 points in the first half and grabbed 13 rebounds, leading the Badgers to a 58-49 victory over the 20th-ranked Nittany Lions.

Purdue defense bottles up No. 8 Spartans in 71-42 upset

Purdue's struggling offense received all the attention the last couple weeks.

Now the Boilermakers can start focusing on the raves about their seemingly unbreakable defense.

Purdue held No. 8 Michigan State to its two lowest scoring halves of the season and lowest point total in nearly eight years as it snapped a two-game losing streak with a 71-42 upset.

No. 21 Buckeyes beat Nebraska, snap 4-game losing streak

Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann came into his post-game news conference ready to talk about some good stuff for a change.

"It's been awhile since I sat in front of you in a good mood," Holtmann told the assembled media after No. 21 Ohio State snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Nebraska on Tuesday night. "It seems like forever."

Actually, it was two weeks, since Dec. 21 when they Buckeyes beat Kentucky. They were 11-1 after that and rose to No. 2 in the AP Top 25 before the losing streak started after the Christmas break. That means 80-68 win over Nebraska was Ohio State's first win of 2020.

    Davison's 3 sends Wisconsin past No. 17 Maryland, 56-54

Wisconsin coach Greg Gard's favorite saying of late has been, “Gritty, not pretty.”

The Badgers needed every second on Tuesday to pick up their grittiest win of the season.

Brad Davison hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left after getting a steal and Wisconsin beat No. 17 Maryland 56-54 on Tuesday night, its third straight victory against a ranked opponent.

Garza scores 33, Iowa surprises No. 19 Michigan 90-83

Michigan coach Juwan Howard has seen enough of Iowa's Luka Garza this season.

Garza scored 33 points in Iowa's 90-83 win over No. 19 Michigan on Friday night.

Howard, the first-year coach of the Wolverines, knew nothing about Garza before the season. But after this game, and the 44-point effort the center had against Michigan in Iowa's 103-91 loss in December, Howard knows plenty.

No. 21 Illinois runs away in 2nd half to sweep Purdue

After watching No. 21 Illinois play an uncharacteristic first half Tuesday night, coach Brad Underwood gave his team some simple instructions.

Then the Fighting Illini reverted to form.

Kofi Cockburn scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, Trent Frazier added 21 points and Illinois pulled away in the second half to beat Purdue 79-62.
