Liddell's late FTs lift Ohio State over Penn State 83-79

Standing on the foul line with the game hanging in the balance, Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell had no doubt what to do.

    “I iced it,” he said.

Liddell scored 22 points, including the tiebreaking free throws with 59.7 seconds left, and No. 13 Ohio State held off Penn State 83-79 on Wednesday night.

Liddell leads No. 13 Ohio St over skidding Michigan St 79-62

No. 13 Ohio State caught Michigan State in the midst of a uncommon skid and beat the blue-blood Big Ten program for the first time in its last five tries.

The Spartans had 20 days off because of COVID-19 issues and then lost to Rutgers by 30 points on Thursday night. The shooting went cold again in the second half on Sunday, and the opportunistic Buckeyes cruised to a 79-62 rout.

Franklin's final shot sends Indiana past No. 8 Iowa 67-65

Coach Archie Miller gave the ball to Armaan Franklin for Indiana's final possession Sunday — despite his shooting struggles.

The sophomore guard made Miller's big bet pay off.

Franklin sank a 15-foot, tiebreaking jumper with 1.8 seconds left to cap off a late rally that gave the Hoosiers a 67-65 victory over No. 8 Iowa.

No. 4 Ohio State gets defensive in 73-65 win over Maryland

As he heads toward the end of his college basketball career, Kyle Young is determined to expend all his energy during every minute he's on the court.

If he keeps playing this way, the Ohio State senior and his teammates just might keep running deep into March.

Young scored a career-high 18 points, Duane Washington Jr. also had 18 and the fourth-ranked Buckeyes used a relentless defensive effort to wear down Maryland in a 73-65 victory Monday night.

Late rally lifts Minnesota past No. 24 Purdue, 71-68

For more than 38 minutes of action, Purdue had held Minnesota's leading scorer in check. But Marcus Carr ended the game in style, giving the Golden Gophers a dramatic comeback victory.

Carr finished with 19 points, including eight in the final 1:08, to lift Minnesota past No. 24 Purdue 71-68 on Thursday.

No. 4 Ohio State tops Penn State 92-82 for 7th straight win

Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann let out a sigh, leaned forward toward his computer and rested his chin in his right hand.

His cheeks were a bit flushed as his Zoom background flickered behind him after No. 4 Ohio State outlasted Penn State 92-82 in a back-and-forth game on Thursday.

No. 5 Illinois dominates Minnesota 94-63 for 7th win in row

From pregame warmup drills though the pickup-game vibe of the second half, the Illinois players kept filling Minnesota's mostly empty arena with chants and cheers.

There's a fun and relentless energy around the Fighting Illini, making an already talented team even tougher to beat.

Ayo Dosunmu had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double of the season, Kofi Cockburn scored 22 points in 24 minutes, and No. 5 Illinois cruised past Minnesota 94-63 Saturday for its seventh consecutive victory.

Garza breaks Iowa scoring mark, No. 11 Hawkeyes beat Penn St

The chase to become Iowa's all-time leading scorer got to Luka Garza only once during Sunday's game against Penn State.

Garza looked at the scoreboard going into a media timeout in the second half and saw that he needed to make both of the free throws he was about to shoot to reach the record.

The first one was good. The second? An air ball.

    Oops.

"Obviously, I was a little nervous on that free throw," Garza said, laughing.

Garza eventually got the points he needed, and the 11th-ranked Hawkeyes came away with the win. He finished with 23 points as Iowa rallied in the second half to beat the Nittany Lions 74-68.

    Dickinson's 22 lifts No. 3 Michigan over No. 4 Ohio St 92-87

In a virtually empty Value City Arena, the matchup between No. 3 Michigan and No. 4 Ohio State in February looked more like an intense NCAA Tournament game in March: good shooting, timely 3-pointers, fierce play under the rim, few mistakes and some late drama.

After six ties in the second half, Michigan pulled away in the final minutes and then held off Ohio State 92-87 Sunday in a meeting that showcased two teams aiming for No. 1 seeds next month.

Michigan St beats No. 4 Ohio St 71-67, improves NCAA resume

Tom Izzo walked into the locker room with fists in the air and an ear-to-ear grin on his face, welcoming water getting doused on him by Michigan State's players celebrating what clearly was not just another win.

Aaron Henry had 18 points to help the Spartans improve their chances of making the NCAA Tournament with a 71-67 win over No. 4 Ohio State on Thursday night, two days after Izzo's team beat No. 5 Illinois by nine points.

No. 3 Michigan continues to roll with 73-57 win at Indiana

Juwan Howard understands the power of patience. It should serve No. 3 Michigan well this week.

Thirty seasons after first arriving in Ann Arbor as part of the famed Fab Five, the second-year coach watched Franz Wagner match his season high with 21 points and Isaiah Livers finish with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Wolverines pulled away or a 73-57 victory at Indiana — and to the precipice of Howard's first Big Ten crown.
