No. 8 Michigan State too much for Purdue, holds off late rally

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio likes his team's resilience.

Now it's time to develop a knockout punch.

Connor Cook threw three touchdown passes and Nick Hill ran for two scores Saturday, but No. 8 Michigan State still needed a late interception return for a touchdown to hold on 45-31 at Purdue.

Connor Cook, No. 8 Michigan State roll past Indiana

Instead of letting up or letting down, No. 8 Michigan State finally figured out how to put a game away.

Connor Cook threw three touchdown passes against his father's alma mater, Jeremey Langford ran for three more scores and the defense pitched a second-half shutout as the Spartans routed Indiana 56-17 on Saturday.

CB Dwight White has one kidney

Northwestern cornerback Dwight White has decided to stop playing football.

White tells the Chicago Tribune he found out in June after experiencing abdominal pain that he was born with one kidney. He decided to keep playing. But after suffering a kidney contusion in practice in the final days before the season opener, he ultimately opted to stop.

Csont'e York also must pay $2K

Former Michigan wide receiver Csont'e York was sentenced to seven days in jail after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and assault and battery charges a month ago.

York broke a man's jaw and knocked him unconscious when he punched him outside an Ann Arbor bar July 18. York was suspended from the team Aug. 3 and permanently dismissed later that month. He has since transferred to the University of Toledo.

Ameer Abdullah's record 341 all-purpose yards spark No. 16 Nebraska

Ameer Abdullah says someday he'll look back and revel in the kind of game he played against Rutgers.

Not now, though, because he believes he has a lot more to accomplish this season.

Abdullah nudged his way back into the Heisman Trophy conversation Saturday by running for 225 yards and three touchdowns and setting a school record with 341 all-purpose yards in the No. 16 Cornhuskers' 42-24 victory.

Ohio State blows 17-point lead, rebounds to beat Penn State in 2OT

Joey Bosa's Ohio State's teammates had to tell the defensive tackle that he'd just finished off Penn State with a sack in the second overtime.

The sack on a fourth-and-5 play gave the No. 13 Buckeyes a 31-24 victory Saturday night.

Bosa was the last to know.

    Desmond Morgan expected to return

Michigan linebacker Desmond Morgan will sit out the remainder of the 2014 season with a hand injury and will be redshirted, coach Brady Hoke said Monday.

Morgan made six tackles in Michigan's season-opening win over Appalachian State, but he has not played since. Hoke said Morgan had a "hand problem" and the linebacker was seen wearing a sling on the sideline at Michigan home games earlier in the season. Hoke does not talk about specific injuries to players and doesn't address their status at all unless they are done for the season.

Ameer Abdullah hurt as Nebraska beats Purdue

With Ameer Abdullah out most of the game with a knee injury, Nebraska slogged through a win over Purdue and now has two weeks to get their Heisman Trophy hopeful healed for the Cornhuskers' showdown with Wisconsin.

Imani Cross, Abdullah's backup, ran for two short touchdowns in a 35-14 victory Saturday that moved Nebraska (No. 15 CFP, No. 17 AP) into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten West.

Buckeyes roll early in 55-14 win over Illini

No. 16 Ohio State took care of business by pounding Illinois 55-14 on Saturday night.

Now the Buckeyes can finally talk about the game of the year in the Big Ten next week at Michigan State. The Spartans ended a 24-game Ohio State win streak with a 34-24 victory in last year's conference title game.

J.T. Barrett's big night carries Buckeyes to statement win over Spartans

Now it's Ohio State's turn to lobby for a berth in the college football playoff -- a thought that seemed pretty far-fetched when the Buckeyes lost their quarterback and struggled through the first couple weeks of the season.

With J.T. Barrett performing brilliantly in place of an injured Braxton Miller, there's no longer any doubt who the Big Ten's top contender is in the national title race.

Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in a sensational performance, and No. 14 Ohio State scored almost at will against Michigan State's vaunted defense, beating the eighth-ranked Spartans 49-37 on Saturday night.

No. 25 Wisconsin rolls past Purdue 34-16

    - For one half Saturday, Joel Stave looked like the quarterback who nearly led Wisconsin to last year's Big Ten title game.

Running back Melvin Gordon savored the moment.

With the Heisman Trophy candidate rushing for 205 yards and one touchdown, and Stave throwing for a season best 219 yards and two touchdowns, No 25. Wisconsin pulled away from Purdue 34-16 and improved its chances to chase yet another conference championship.

J.T. Barrett (4 touchdowns), No. 8 Ohio State outlast Minnesota

J.T. Barrett broke three of Braxton Miller's records, the latest breakthrough for this remarkable replacement.

Ohio State's pursuit of a place in the College Football Playoff stayed steady with a tough win on the road.

Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for an Ohio State quarterback-record 189 yards and a score, helping the eighth-ranked Buckeyes overcome three turnovers and wintry weather to beat Minnesota (No. 25 CFP) 31-24 on Saturday.

No. 12 Michigan State beats Maryland 37-15

All week long, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio expressed confidence his team would bounce back after a disheartening loss to Ohio State.

In truth, Dantonio wasn't really sure how the 12th-ranked Spartans would perform against Maryland. As it turned out, he shouldn't have worried at all.

Jeremy Langford ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns, and Michigan State received a strong performance from its defense in a 37-15 victory Saturday night.

Melvin Gordon sets FBS rushing record with 408 yards vs. Huskers

Melvin Gordon had one magnificent day.

Wisconsin's star running back rushed for a major college-record 408 yards and four touchdowns, and the Badgers (No. 20 CFP, No. 22 AP) overcame three early turnovers to take control of the Big Ten West division with a 59-24 win Saturday over Nebraska (No. 16 CFP, No 11 AP).

Northwestern FGs tie it up late, beat Notre Dame in overtime

Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald already knew what it felt like to beat Notre Dame. That's because he did it as a linebacker in 1995, in a game described as "The Upset of the Century."

He thinks he likes this win more.

Northwestern's Jack Mitchell forced the game into overtime with a 45-yard field goal with 19 seconds left in regulation, then hit a 41-yard field goal to give Northwestern a 43-40 win over Notre Dame (No. 18 CFP, No. 15 AP) on Saturday.
