Michigan introduces Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh was officially introduced as the new coach at Michigan, calling the return to his alma mater a "homecoming" and vowing "excellence" for a football program seeking its first national title since 1997. The school announced Tuesday it had hired the former Wolverines star quarterback, just two days after he left his job as coach of the San Francisco 49ers. "Throughout my life, I have dreamed of coaching at the University of Michigan," a husky-voiced and raspy Harbaugh, reading from a statement, said at a packed news conference. "Now I have the honor to live it." Michigan interim athletic director Jim Hackett confirmed that Harbaugh signed a seven-year deal worth $5 million per year -- the same salary he received with the Niners. Harbaugh also received a $2 million signing bonus, according to Hackett. Read more http://espn.go.com/college-football...introduced-michigan-wolverines-football-coach
Jim Harbaugh addresses team Michigan junior Shane Morris joined a list Tuesday that includes former No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck and NFC champion Colin Kaepernick as pupils of Jim Harbaugh. Morris is among the next group of quarterbacks that will work side-by-side with Harbaugh, who was officially introduced as Michigan's next head coach Tuesday. Harbaugh played quarterback for three seasons at Michigan before he was picked in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft. Morris said the opportunity to learn from Harbaugh was surreal. "I'm ecstatic," he said. "Every quarterback he's coached has been great, has had great success. I'm very excited to be able to work with him and learn everything that he has to offer." Morris, a Michigan native, appeared in just five games this season while serving as the primary backup for senior Devin Gardner. As Drake's "Started from the Bottom" blared from speakers, local public figures in suits glad-handed and Cardale Jones emerged 15 minutes late in a gray "12 Gauge Buckshot" T-shirt, this was a spectacle that the quarterback admitted didn't have to be. The national championship-winning QB was going back to Ohio State. At least some of the few hundred people inside Ginn Academy's auditorium expected the opposite. "I don't know why you guys made such a big deal," Jones said jokingly, minutes after bypassing the NFL draft late Thursday, the deadline for NFL hopefuls to declare. URBAN MEYER GETS A RAISE. After leading Ohio State to a national championship, Urban Meyer got himself a nice raise and a contract extension that will pay him an average of $6.5 million per year through 2020. That's a base pay that ranks second in college football, just behind Alabama coach Nick Saban, according to USA Today. Meyer was previously the sixth-highest paid. Meyer could have potentially earned even more, given his accomplishments, but according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman, he has "no desire to become the highest-paid college football coach in the country."
