No. 4 Ohio State outlasts Minnesota 45-31 in Stroud's debut

C.J. Stroud's mind was not right as he sparred with first-game jitters, feeling "kind of all over the place" in his debut as Ohio State's starting quarterback.

Playing for the Buckeyes comes with plenty of pressure. It also brings plenty of help.

Stroud passed for 294 yards and four touchdowns, and the fourth-ranked Buckeyes kept coach Ryan Day unbeaten in Big Ten play with a 45-31 victory over Minnesota on a rainy Thursday night.

    No. 18 Iowa's defense silences No. 17 Indiana, 34-6

Iowa cornerback Riley Moss wasn't sure what happened.

Moss' 30-yard interception return for a touchdown, the first of his two scores in the game, helped start No. 18 Iowa on the way to a 34-6 victory over No. 17 Indiana on Saturday in the opener for both teams.

Clifford leads No. 11 Penn State over Ball State 44-13

    — When Penn State hired Mike Yurcich to be its new offensive coordinator, the team's backs and receivers were ecstatic.

They knew there likely would be a lot of opportunities for all of them to make plays. The No. 11 Nittany Lions' 44-13 win against Ball State on Saturday was the showcase they had in mind.

No. 9 Iowa beats No. 10 Iowa St 27-17 to keep Cy-Hawk Trophy

Iowa defensive end Zach VanValkenburg and offensive lineman Jack Plumb marched across the end zone with the Cy-Hawk Trophy perched on their shoulders, showing it off to the Hawkeyes fans who had come to Jack Trice Stadium to see the biggest game in the history of the rivalry with Iowa State.

The trophy checks in at about 90 pounds and for all the progress the ninth-ranked Cyclone have made in recent years, they just can't pry it away from the Hawkeyes.

Jack Campbell returned a fumble 6 yards for a touchdown and No. 10 Iowa ran its winning streak against Iowa State to six games with a 27-17 victory Saturday that ruined the most-anticipated home game in Cyclones history.

No. 5 Iowa rallies to defeat Colorado State 24-14

Iowa made it through September undefeated with the remainder of the Big Ten schedule looming.

But it wasn't easy for the No. 5 Hawkeyes to get to this point.

They opened the season with wins against ranked teams Indiana and Iowa State. A home win over Kent State followed.

Then came Saturday's game against Colorado State, and it turned out to be the biggest challenge so far for the Hawkeyes.

Spencer Petras threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns as Iowa needed a second-half comeback to win 24-14.

No. 10 Buckeyes break loose with 59-7 rout of Akron

After three tough games -- including an upset by Oregon two weeks ago -- No. 10 Ohio State got a chance to break in another freshman quarterback and restore some confidence before heading into the teeth of the conference schedule.

The 59-7 rout of Akron on Saturday night likely won’t impress poll voters much, but with so many freshmen on the field the Buckeyes (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) benefited from the extra reps and wide margin for error.

OT interception lifts No. 20 Spartans over Nebraska 23-20

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker said he showed his players video highlights of special teams units around the country making game-changing plays.

His 20th-ranked Spartans delivered a local adaptation on Saturday night.

With the offense sputtering, Jayden Reed returned a punt 62 yards for a tying touchdown with 3:47 left in regulation, and Chester Kimbrough's huge defensive play in overtime helped send the Spartans to a 23-20 win over Nebraska.

No. 5 Iowa forces 7 turnovers in 51-14 rout of Maryland

Spencer Petras barely had time to exhale in the second quarter. The Iowa quarterback would come off the field following a scoring drive — then immediately return after the defense forced yet another turnover.

"You sit on the bench for two seconds, you're right back out," Petras said.

Petras threw for three touchdowns and ran for two and No. 5 Iowa took advantage of seven Maryland turnovers in a 51-14 victory Friday night.

No. 4 Penn State beats Indiana 24-0 with strong defense

Penn State defenders get excited when they're asked to defend short fields these days.

After all, it's what the No. 4 Nittany Lions (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) do best.

Penn State forced eight punts, two turnovers and blocked a field goal to lift the Nittany Lions to a 24-0 victory over Indiana on Saturday.

No. 14 Michigan routs Wisconsin 38-17; Badgers QB Mertz hurt

Coach Jim Harbaugh and No. 14 Michigan found a formula to shut down the Wisconsin rushing attack that had embarrassed the Wolverines the last couple of years.

"Against a tough, physical team, I thought our team played really physical," Harbaugh said. "We matched it every bit."

And once Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz went down with a chest injury, the Badgers' chances of continuing their recent run of home domination in this series pretty much disintegrated.

Cornelius Johnson caught both of Cade McNamara's touchdown passes and Michigan remained unbeaten Saturday with a 38-17 victory over Wisconsin, marking the Wolverines' first victory at Camp Randall Stadium since 2001.

C.J. Stroud throws five TD passes, No. 11 Ohio State rolls

Greg Schiano of Rutgers has a warning for the rest of the teams in the Big Ten Conference: No. 11 Ohio State is finding its stride.

C.J. Stroud threw for 330 yards and a career-high five touchdowns after sitting out a game to rest a shoulder and the Buckeyes won their 20th straight conference game with a 52-13 victory over Rutgers on Saturday.

No. 17 Mich St beats W Kentucky 48-31, best start since 2015

Michigan State's Jayden Reed planted his right foot in the turf and juked to his left, cut back across the field and sprinted up the sideline untouched for an 88-yard touchdown off a punt return to score on special teams for the third straight week.

Reed also had a touchdown reception in the first half, giving him multiple scores for the fourth straight week, to help the 17th-ranked Spartans build a 26-point lead and they went on to beat Western Kentucky 48-31 on Saturday night.
