    Jerry Kill resting after seizure

Without a game this week, Minnesota coach Jerry Kill has been at home following a seizure that kept him from traveling with the team for Saturday's loss at Michigan.

It was the fifth game-day episode Kill endured in three seasons with the Gophers and the fourth that caused him to miss at least a portion of a game. But on Tuesday, university president Eric Kaler reaffirmed his support for Kill and the coach's ability to handle the high-profile, high-pressure job while dealing with epilepsy.

    Jerry Kill to continue treatment

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill has taken an open-ended leave of absence from the team to focus on treatment and management of his epilepsy.

The university announced the decision Thursday before a news conference with athletic director Norwood Teague and defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys.

Jerry Kill to take leave of absence

Even as his seizures have grown in frequency the past two years, Minnesota coach Jerry Kill has always maintained that his epilepsy never would slow him down.

When he wasn't able to make it to a game for the first time in his coaching career last weekend against Michigan, Kill decided it was time to take a step back, put his health before football for once and try to get a handle on an issue that has taken him from the sideline twice in the past month.

Kill and the university announced Thursday that the coach is taking an open-ended leave of absence from the team to focus on treatment and management of his epilepsy, and it is uncertain when he will be able to return to the Golden Gophers.

Bill Belton's 2-yard TD run puts Penn St. by No. 18 Michigan in 4 OTs

Belton ran for a 2-yard touchdown in the fourth overtime to lift Penn State past No. 18 Michigan 43-40 in maybe the biggest win in coach Bill O'Brien's two seasons with the Nittany Lions.

Melvin Gordon ran for a 71-yard touchdown, Borland had one of his team's seven sacks, and Wisconsin figured out No. 19 Northwestern's high-octane offense in a 35-6 win Saturday.

Urban Meyer: 'It's all about today'

The Ohio State Buckeyes may be a long way from Oklahoma's major-college record of 47 consecutive victories, but the pressure is mounting as it has reached 18 games.

"I can feel sometimes pressure mounting on players when you (are on a) streak," coach Urban Meyer said. "You start hearing about streaks. And it's my job as a coach and our coaching staff (to make sure) it's all about today."

The fourth-ranked Buckeyes (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) can tie the school's second-longest streak when they host Iowa (4-2, 1-1) on Saturday.

    Spencer Long out for season

Nebraska senior right guard Spencer Long is done playing for the season and needs surgery on his injured left knee, coach Bo Pelini confirmed Tuesday.

Pelini said during the Big Ten coaches' teleconference that an evaluation of Long, a Huskers co-captain, showed less damage than originally feared. Still, the first-team All-Big Ten pick by ESPN and second-team Associated Press All-American will undergo surgery Thursday.

No. 4 Ohio State rallies past Iowa to win 19th straight

Carlos Hyde was staggered. So was No. 4 Ohio State.

    Both bounced back.

Hyde ran for 149 yards, including 106 and two touchdowns in the second half, to lead the Buckeyes back from a halftime deficit to a 34-24 victory over Iowa on Saturday, extending their win streak to an FBS-best 19 straight.

Melvin Gordon, No. 25 Wisconsin roll past Illinois

Wisconsin lost defensive leader Chris Borland to injury early on Saturday and even with an early three-touchdown lead struggled to put Illinois away.

So the No. 25 Badgers put the game in Melvin Gordon's hands and he delivered.

Gordon rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 25 Wisconsin (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) to a 56-32 rout of Illinois. James White backed him up with another 98 yards in 20 carries and two touchdowns.

    Urban Meyer: Targeting needs review

Urban Meyer remains a proponent of making football safer, but the Ohio State coach doesn't appear to be a supporter of the stiff penalty tied to breaking a new rule aiming to do just that.

After having his first player ejected because of a targeting violation, Meyer took exception to both the interpretation of the rule that led to the disqualification of cornerback Bradley Roby and the heavy loss that accompanies the flag after reviewing the hit and consulting with officials over the weekend.

Like all plays involving a targeting call, Roby's hit in the first quarter of a 34-24 win over Iowa on Saturday was reviewed in the booth on replay, with a chance for the ejection to be overturned. But officials upheld the on-the-field verdict, and the No. 4 Buckeyes played the rest of the game without one of their most important contributors.

Meyer is now suggesting that the rule itself might need a second opinion.

"I think that the NCAA and everybody is going to want to look at that rule," Meyer said during his weekly news conference Monday. "Ohio State is very concerned about player safety. We have gone to the nth degree with adjusting practice. Any rule for the safety of players, no question we support it.

"However, that was a game-changer. To take one of your better players out of the game, that impacted that game. ... We teach and work hard at it that you play the game with the shoulder pads and play below the head. I agree 100 percent. But to have a guy ejected who played like that, obviously I'm concerned."

Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez probably will play against Minnesota on Saturday, but whether he starts will be a game-time decision.

    Source: Taylor Martinez eyes start

Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez plans to start Saturday at Minnesota, according to a source.

Martinez missed three games with turf toe before returning to practice this week. He found the injury, which required a walking boot, very painful, and it's hard to know how it might affect his mobility Saturday.

No. 4 Ohio St. posts 63-14 win; worst Penn St. loss in 114 years

Ohio State was looking for a lopsided win to impress the voters and boost its BCS numbers. The Buckeyes made Penn State pay the price.

Braxton Miller passed for three touchdowns and ran for two and Carlos Hyde rushed for 147 yards and two more scores to lead the fourth-ranked Buckeyes to a 63-14 victory over Penn State on Saturday night.

Minnesota upsets No. 24 Nebraska for 1st win in series since 1960

When Philip Nelson picked Minnesota, he envisioned program-lifting wins like this.

With recovering coach Jerry Kill providing extra motivation, the Gophers pushed around Nebraska all afternoon to beat the Cornhuskers for the first time since 1960.

Nelson rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another, guiding Minnesota to a 34-23 upset Saturday of No. 24 Nebraska.

    Huskers' Taylor Martinez still injured

Taylor Martinez wasn't supposed to return until he was 100-percent healthy. Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said it repeatedly the past month.

But there Martinez was, starting against Minnesota -- anything but at full strength. The senior quarterback acknowledged as much Saturday after the Cornhuskers' 34-23 loss to the Gophers.

Martinez also said the injury to his left foot had been inaccurately described to the media as turf toe, which is a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. The injury actually is to his second and third toes. He declined to comment when asked if either of the toes were sprained or broken.

    Taylor Martinez has hip pointer

Redshirt freshman Tommy Armstrong has again moved into the No. 1 quarterback position at Nebraska after Taylor Martinez suffered a hip pointer in the Huskers' 34-23 loss Saturday at Minnesota, coach Bo Pelini said.

Chris Borland to play vs. Iowa

Wisconsin standout senior linebacker Chris Borland is expected to be on the field when the No. 22 Badgers renew their regional rivalry Saturday at Iowa.

Borland took advantage of a bye week to rest his strained right hamstring, which was injured two weeks ago against Illinois.
