Michigan State's defense batters rival Michigan

Mark Dantonio has always embraced Michigan State's rivalry with Michigan, but this week the confident coach took a fairly calm approach.

"Don't worry about all the things that are being said -- just keep your mouth shut," Dantonio said. "Get ready to play, start the game and finish stronger than when you started. We were going to let the lion out of the cage at 3:30, and that's what happened."

Dantonio's Spartans battered their biggest rivals for the full 60 minutes Saturday, and No. 22 Michigan State remained unbeaten in the Big Ten with a 29-6 victory over the No. 21 Wolverines. Michigan was sacked seven times and finished with minus-48 yards rushing, the worst output in the Ann Arbor program's lengthy history.

James White leads No. 24 Wisconsin to win at Iowa

Wisconsin didn't need a monster game out of Melvin Gordon to beat Iowa.

The Badgers converted a pair of second-half interceptions into touchdowns that turned a close game into an easy win over the Hawkeyes.

James White ran for 132 yards and a pair of late TDs as 24th-ranked Wisconsin beat Iowa 28-9 on Saturday for its third straight win.

Re: James White leads No. 24 Wisconsin to win at Iowa

Wisconsin star linebacker Chris Borland doesn't plan to miss another game because of a hamstring injury.

The 24th-ranked Badgers (6-2) play BYU on Saturday. Borland missed last week's 28-9 win at Iowa because of his sore hamstring.

    Condoleezza Rice turned town PSU

An aide to former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she was approached by a firm helping Penn State look for a new president, but she wasn't interested.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday that Rice's chief of staff Georgia Godfrey confirmed the overture.

Godfrey tells the newspaper Rice's office declined on her behalf because she plans to remain on the faculty at Stanford.

James White, Chris Borland help No. 24 Wisconsin take down BYU

James White ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass for another score, Borland led the defense in his return from an injured hamstring, and the 24th-ranked Badgers stalled BYU's fast-paced offense in a 27-17 victory Saturday.

    Ankle injury hampers Tevin Coleman

Indiana will likely be without top running back Tevin Coleman when it plays at No. 22 Wisconsin on Saturday.

Hoosiers coach Kevin Wilson said Monday that Coleman is unlikely to play after suffering an ankle sprain late in last week's 52-35 win over Illinois. Before the injury, Coleman had run for 215 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries against the Illini. For that effort, he was named the Big Ten's offensive player of the week.

Urban Meyer: 'I can't stand that'

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was "very disappointed" that Evan Spencer broke one of the Buckeyes' rules about speaking in public, so it'll be a while before anybody hears from the receiver again.

Spencer on Monday said the No. 3 Buckeyes would "wipe the field with both of them" -- referring to No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Florida State. Spencer later apologized on Twitter, stressing that he's clearly biased.

Carlos Hyde, Braxton Miller lift Buckeyes from ground in rout of Illini

Breaking into the open field for a late, long touchdown run Saturday at Illinois, Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde wondered why it hadn't all come this easy for the Buckeyes.

Hyde finished the day with the kind of numbers that usually come with an easy win: 248 yards rushing with four touchdowns on the ground and another through the air. Quarterback Braxton Miller wasn't far behind with 184 yards rushing and two more touchdowns.

But after opening up a 28-0 lead, the No. 3 Buckeyes needed a momentum-changing safety and Hyde's late 55- and 51-yard touchdowns to finally put Illinois away 60-35 and stay unbeaten (10-0, 6-0 Big Ten).

No. 16 Michigan State beats turnover-prone Nebraska

Michigan State all but locked up a spot in the Big Ten championship game, and the 16th-ranked Spartans didn't even need their nation-leading defense at its best to do it.

With Nebraska turning over the ball five times and Connor Cook directing a game-breaking drive in the fourth quarter, the Spartans won 41-28 Saturday to take a two-game lead in the Legends Division with two games to play.

No. 22 Wisconsin runs for 554 yards in win over Indiana

James White took the handoff on Wisconsin's first play from scrimmage, brushed off a tackle at the line and looked for the next defender.

    But no one was there.

It was like that all day for the Badgers with White's school record 93-yard run just the beginning of another dominating rushing performance as No. 22 Wisconsin beat Indiana 51-3 on Saturday.

    Tommy Armstrong remains starter

Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. received a vote of confidence Monday from coach Bo Pelini, who said the redshirt freshman would start at Penn State this week after his three-turnover performance against Michigan State.

"We still believe in Tommy and still think he's going to be a really good football player for us," Pelini said. "He's young. He's a freshman. He's not going to be perfect. He was disappointed yesterday, but that experience will make him better down the line."

No. 3 Ohio State extends school-record winning streak to 23

Urban Meyer knows how difficult it is to avoid upsets in college football.

To do it for two years in a row is almost unbelievable.

"Every once in a while I'll take a peek at the scoreboard and think, 'Ooh. What happened there?' " the Ohio State coach said after the third-ranked Buckeyes rolled over Indiana 42-14 on Saturday. "For this team to (win) 23 times in a row, that's an incredible testimony to the players and coaches."

No. 13 Michigan State wins to clinch Legends Division

Mark Dantonio and his players wore hats commemorating their division championship. They hope bigger prizes are coming.

Connor Cook threw for a career-high 293 yards, Jeremy Langford ran for 150, and No. 13 Michigan State clinched a spot in the Big Ten title game with a 30-6 victory over Northwestern on Saturday afternoon.
