Iowa beats Indiana women’s basketball 96-91

It was Senior night at Assembly Hall on Saturday evening, as the Indiana Hoosiers prepared to do battle at home for the final time during the 20210-22 regular season. With over 7,000 in attendance to see them take on #22 Iowa, the crowd was electrifying, coming out in droves to support their #5 Indiana Hoosiers.

IU missed their first 6 shots from the field and remained scoreless until Aleksa Gukbe was able to sink a pair of free throws with 7 mins remaining in the first quarter. The next 17 minutes remained bleak for IU, who was ineffective in the post. Iowa put the pressure on, scoring 12 and pulling down 9

No. 13 Maryland women’s basketball falls to No. 9 Michigan, 71-59

In the thick of a Big Ten regular season championship race, No. 13 Maryland women’s basketball and the No. 9 Michigan Wolverines were trading blows Sunday with a potential title on the line.

Trailing by 10 with a little more than one minute to play, graduate student guard Katie Benzan nailed her third three to cut it to 63-56. From there, the fouling game commenced. Senior guard Danielle Rauch only made one of two free throws to keep Maryland afloat.

Czinano, Clark lead No. 21 Iowa over No. 10 Indiana, 88-82

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder knew it was time to go to Monika Czinano.

“She’s a walking bucket,” Bluder said.

Czinano scored 31 points and had 10 rebounds, and Caitlin Clark added 29 points, as the 21st-ranked Hawkeyes defeated No. 10 Indiana 88-82 on Monday night.

The Michigan State Spartans women’s basketball team was in Ann Arbor on Thursday night to take on the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines in the road finale for the regular season, but fell short in the second half, losing 62-51. It was the third time this season the team had an opportunity to sweep an opponent but was not able to do so. The Spartans defeated then No. 4 Michigan in East Lansing just two weeks ago.

Ohio State women’s basketball beats Penn State 78-55 to earn double-bye in B1G Tournament

Thursday was the final home game during the 2021-22 regular season for the Ohio State women’s basketball team. Coming into the game against the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Buckeyes were in still in a position to compete for the Big Ten regular season title and top spot in the conference tournament.

The Michigan Wolverines still hold the strongest title hopes, but with just a single win out of their remaining two, the Buckeyes would lock in a double-bye to automatically advance to the quarterfinals in the B1G Women’s Basketball Tournament. Ohio State’s first chance came against the Penn State Nittany Lions they earned that bye without hesitation, beating the Nittany Lions 78 to 55.

Ohio State earns gutsy win over Michigan State, 61-55

The No. 17 Ohio State Buckeyes had a lot to play for going into the final Sunday of the Big Ten regular season against the Michigan State Spartans. While they already secured a top four position, which comes with a double-bye straight into the quarterfinals of the B1G Tournament, there was still tournament seeding to work out. A win would move the Buckeyes into the No. 2 seed.

In addition, an Ohio State win and a Michigan Wolverines loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday would earn the Buckeyes a share of the regular season B1G title with the Hawkeyes as well as the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Ohio State did their best in getting to that title, beating the Michigan State Spartans 61-55.

Nebraska WBB Out-Grits Michigan 76-73 to Advance to the B1G Tournament Semi-Finals

I was concerned about this game. Michigan is a REALLY good team that can play defense and offense in ways to cause problems for Nebraska. The Huskers beat the Wolverines convincingly (by 21 points) earlier this season and Michgan would definitely be out for blood. Tonights 76-73 win is not the same level of whuppin’ as before, but might be more impressive because...

Ohio State women beat Michigan State 74-58, move into the B1G Tournament semifinals

Friday was a day of firsts for this Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team. The Big Ten Tournament was their first neutral-site game of the season, as OSU didn’t take part in any invitationals throughout the 2021-22 season. In addition, it was also the first postseason basketball for the Buckeyes since the 2020 B1G Women’s Basketball Tournament where Ohio State lost in the tournament final.

The Scarlet and Gray faced a familiar foe on Friday. Just five days after beating the Michigan State Spartans to get one step closer to their eventual B1G Co-Championship, the Buckeyes had to beat Michigan State for the third time this season to keep their outstanding conference season going.

Ohio State had a game that looked like a run away, but ended up being a tight contest until the end of the fourth quarter. The Scarlet and Gray move on to the semifinals, Beating Michigan State 74-58.

Indiana Women’s Basketball defeats Maryland 62-51

The Maryland Terrapins’ reign of terror in the Big Ten Tournament is finally over, as 5-seed Indiana upset the back-to-back champs in the Quarterfinal round earlier this afternoon. The win puts the Hoosiers through to the Semifinal round, where they’ll meet 1-seed Ohio State. Here’s three things:

    No. 12 Iowa 72, Northwestern 59

Northwestern faced No. 12 Iowa in its quarterfinal matchup of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday after splitting their regular season series with two close games.

The Wildcats’ future postseason hopes depended on their performance at the tournament — as coach Joe McKeown said, “survive and advance.”

The matchup to watch was Iowa’s Caitlin Clark against senior guard Veronica Burton — 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year against 2022 and three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. If Burton and NU could control Iowa’s offense, the best in the conference, they had a serious chance of advancing to the semifinal.

But No. 7 seed NU (17-11, 8-8 Big Ten) ultimately fell 72-59 to the No. 2 seed Hawkeyes (20-7, 14-4) in Indianapolis. The Cats successfully contained Iowa throughout the first half, but their lackluster all-around performance in the third quarter proved to be too much for NU to recover from. Burton did everything she could, notching 25 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, but the squad’s Big Ten Tournament campaign ended in the quarterfinal.
