Kansas coach Bill Self made a deal with Devonte' Graham: Prove in practice that he was ready to go after a nagging toe injury and the freshman guard would play against Texas Tech.

"I guess I practiced pretty good," Graham said. "Let me play."

Graham returned after for the first time in a month to provide a lift to the No. 12 Jayhawks, pitching in six assists and six rebounds in an 86-54 victory over the Red Raiders.

No. 17 Iowa State turned things around quickly a week after leaving Brooklyn with a loss.

Now the Cyclones are perched atop the Big 12 standings after the first week of conference play.

Abdel Nader tied a season high with 19 points, team scoring leader Georges Niang had his best game in a month and Iowa State beat No. 14 West Virginia 74-72 on Saturday night.

No. 21 Baylor had plenty to be frustrated about Saturday.

The Bears were struggling all game against TCU's stellar defense, but when Kenny Chery nailed a jumper to tie it at 53 with a minute to go, things began to click.

Rico Gathers had 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead Baylor to its first Big 12 Conference win of the season, 66-59 over TCU in overtime.

    - Marcus Foster made perhaps the biggest shot of his Kansas State career, then followed it with a bigger one a few minutes later.

His floater forced overtime, then he drained a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left in the extra period for the winner as the Wildcats beat No. 16 Oklahoma 66-63 on Saturday night.

West Virginia's reserves kept pouring in the points, and No. 18 Oklahoma could do little but watch.

The 16th-ranked Mountaineers' bench, outscored in their previous two games, amassed a season-high 55 points in an 86-65 win over the sloppy Sooners on Tuesday night.

Kenny Chery got No. 22 Baylor started with a 3-pointer on the first shot, part of a game-opening 16-1 spurt for the Bears.

After they fell behind late, Chery hit the game winner against No. 11 Iowa State.

Chery, the senior point guard who struggled shooting for most of the game, made a jumper with 4.7 seconds left, and the Bears won 74-73 after blowing a 14-point lead in the final 8 1/2 minutes.

After an embarrassing home loss two weeks ago, Texas coach Rick Barnes questioned whether his team was really one of the best in the country or just a bunch of "phony tough guys."

Apparently not. The No. 20 Longhorns finally delivered a convincing answer Saturday night, dominating No. 16 West Virginia in a bruising 77-50 victory.

Nino Williams possess an old man's game. He loves to shoot baseline jumpers, prefers layups to dunks. The next time he takes a 3-pointer might just be the first.

In short, he has the perfect game for taking down Baylor's zone defense.

Kansas State's senior forward had 18 points to fuel a big second-half rally Saturday, and then helped the Wildcats force hot-handed guard Kenny Chery into missing a layup at the buzzer that preserved a 63-61 victory over the No. 22 Bears.

Iowa State sent a clear message to Kansas and the rest of the Big 12: The Cyclones aren't about to let the Jayhawks breeze to an 11th straight league title.

In fact, Iowa State is ready to make its own run at the championship.

Naz Long scored 20 points and 11th-ranked Iowa State held off No. 9 Kansas 86-81 on Saturday night, recording back-to-back wins over the Jayhawks for the first time in 14 years.

Isaiah Taylor says he's coming around after missing 10 games with a broken left wrist, and maybe No. 17 Texas is too.

Taylor had 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Javan Felix led the Longhorns with 15 points in a 66-48 victory against TCU on Monday night.

Kelly Oubre Jr. began the season on the bench. Cliff Alexander is still there at the start games. Both highly touted Kansas freshmen have gone through their share of growing pains.

They seemed to grow up quite a bit Monday night.

Oubre poured in 19 points, converting two driving layups down the stretch, and Alexander had 13 points and 13 rebounds to help the No. 11 Jayhawks hold off No. 19 Oklahoma, 85-78.

Monte Morris hit a floater with 37 seconds left and No. 9 Iowa State held off Kansas State 77-71 on Tuesday night, moving into a tie for first place in the Big 12.

Jameel McKay had 15 points off the bench for the Cyclones (14-3, 4-1), who joined No. 11 Kansas atop the league. Iowa State beat Kansas in Ames 86-81 on Saturday.

Rico Gathers had an appropriate finish to his record-breaking, rebound-per-minute performance for No. 21 Baylor.

Gathers grabbed consecutive offensive rebounds that led to a three-point play, giving him career highs of 25 points and a Big 12-record 28 rebounds Wednesday night. He helped the Bears finally pull away in the second half for an 81-61 win over NAIA school Huston-Tillotson.

Kansas found a solution for Texas' size and muscle: pinpoint passing and nearly flawless handling of the basketball.

Ruthlessly efficient on offense and willing to match Texas' physical effort under the basket, the No. 11 Jayhawks snagged a key 75-62 Big 12 road win Saturday.

Texas Tech noticed that Iowa State players weren't making it around Red Raiders' screens, so they started putting up 3-pointers.

The Red Raiders hit 11 from behind the arc to earn their first Big 12 win, 78-73, on Saturday.

Royce O'Neale caught the pass off balance, and in one motion got the ball to Rico Gathers for a rim-rocking end to No. 21 Baylor's game-clinching run.

The dunk by Gathers punctuated a late 10-0 spurt that finally put Baylor ahead to stay in a 69-58 victory over No. 19 Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Iowa State accomplished what it set out to do: respond to a brutal loss at Texas Tech with another big win over a ranked team.

But the Cyclones might be haunted by the final minutes of a game they nearly let slip away.

Georges Niang scored 19 points, Bryce Dejean-Jones had 18 and 15th-ranked Iowa State held off No. 19 Texas 89-86 on Monday night.
