Carter scores 21 as No. 14 West Virginia routs ULM 100-58

Jevon Carter's big game was no mystery to his coach.

Carter scored 21 points and No. 14 West Virginia reached triple digits for the third time in nine games this season, rebounding from its first loss with a 100-58 victory Sunday over Louisiana-Monroe.

No. 4 Iowa State beats UAPB 78-64

Iowa State's previous game featured a one-point win over a state rival and a swarm of fans storming the court, which left a local columnist with a broken leg.

The Cyclones were more than happy to post an unimpressive but largely drama-free victory on Sunday.

Jameel McKay scored 18 points with eight rebounds, and No. 4 Iowa State defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 78-64 for its ninth straight win.

Hield scores 33, leads No. 3 Oklahoma past Creighton 87-74

Creighton did so many things right against third-ranked Oklahoma.

One special player spoiled it all. Buddy Hield scored a career-high 33 points to help the Sooners pull away from the Bluejays for an 87-74 win on Saturday.

Ellis has 18, leads No. 2 Jayhawks to 88-46 rout of Montana

Even though Kansas entered its game Saturday against Montana with the nation's third-best scoring offense, coach Bill Self had been imploring his guys to play better on defense.

    Evidently, they heard his plea.

Perry Ellis had 18 points and nine rebounds and the second-ranked Jayhawks used some stifling defense to bury the Grizzlies, 88-46.

No. 2 Kansas pulls away for 78-53 victory over UC Irvine

Rarely does Kansas step on the court and feel the least bit intimidated.

Then again, rarely do the Jayhawks face a 7-foot-6 center.

Hesitant to drive against UC Irvine big man Mamadou Ndiaye during a sluggish first half, the second-ranked Jayhawks eventually got on track, pulling away for a 78-53 victory Tuesday night in their final tuneup before pursuing a 12th straight Big 12 championship.

Freeman helps Baylor break away for win over Texas Southern

Next stop for Baylor is the Big 12 opener at No. 2 Kansas, the perineal conference champion.

The Bears will certainly have to play better than they did in their last game before facing the Jayhawks. They finally took control midway through the second half in a 72-59 victory over Texas Southern on Tuesday.

No. 11 Iowa State beats Coppin State 104-84

Iowa State's slate of overmatched opponents is complete.

Next up for the Cyclones is a brutal 18-game Big 12 schedule -- with a tough trip to No. 20 Texas A&M in the middle of it.

No. 19 West Virginia tops Virginia Tech 88-63

Jevon Carter believes West Virginia is ready for Big 12 Conference play. Individually, he certainly showed he's ready.

Carter scored 18 points to lead the No. 19 Mountaineers to an 88-63 victory over Virginia Tech on Wednesday.

He made his first eight shots from the floor for the Mountaineers (11-1), who never trailed. They head into league action having won four straight since a 70-54 loss to Virginia on Dec. 8.

No. 2 Kansas swamps No. 23 Baylor with big run in 102-74 win

Kansas coach Bill Self has a theory about why Wayne Selden Jr. has been so good this season.

"Mentorship," he said with a wry smile. "Coaching, that's what it's got to be, right?"

    Right.

Along with hours in the gym, a tweak to his shooting mechanics and the realization that the junior guard could be the biggest reason the second-ranked Jayhawks make another Final Four run.

Selden hit five 3-pointers and scored 24 points on Saturday, leading Kansas on a big early run that swamped No. 23 Baylor in a 102-74 victory to start Big 12 play.

No. 19 West Virginia fights off Kansas State 87-83 in 2OT

When it appeared West Virginia's unrelenting press wasn't doing enough to stop an inexperienced Kansas State team, Jaysean Paigestepped up and took matters into his own hands.

"We wanted to try and lift him as much as we could lift him so he could get it at the rim," West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said. "He's our best athlete, and he's gotten better and better and better as the season's gone on."

Paige scored 20 of his 25 points after halftime, Tarik Phillip connected on a floater with 4.5 seconds left in the second overtime and No. 19 West Virginia toughed out an 87-83 victory on Saturday in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

No. 17 West Virginia wins 6th in a row, 95-87 at TCU

Jaysean Paige was in foul trouble like many of his West Virginia teammates. The senior guard made the most of his time on the court.

Paige scored 20 points in only 15 minutes, with seven of the points in a late game-clinching run as foul-plagued and turnover-prone No. 17 West Virginia stretched its winning streak to six games with a 95-87 victory over TCU on Monday night.

No. 1 KU needs 3 OTs to put away No. 2 OU in instant Big 12 classic

Perry Ellis is a man of few words, and nobody would have blamed him if Monday night's instant classic between top-ranked Kansas and No. 2 Oklahoma had rendered the senior forward speechless.

Instead, Ellis perfectly described how the Jayhawks pulled it off: "Just heart."

"All of us together," Ellis said after his team's 109-106, triple-overtime victory in a matchup of national title contenders. "There were so many plays going both ways. We just kept fighting."

No. 13 Iowa State holds off Texas Tech 76-69

With just 17 minutes left, Iowa State star Georges Niang was whistled for what would've been his fourth foul.

The officials quickly reversed the call -- a decision that likely saved the Cyclones.

Matt Thomas scored a career-high 22 points, Jameel McKay had 19 points with 14 rebounds and four blocks and 13th-ranked Iowa State held off Texas Tech 76-69 on Wednesday for its first Big 12 win.

No. 1 Kansas beats Texas Tech 69-59 for 13th straight win

Top-ranked Kansas often struggles when it plays at Texas Tech.

Three times in the past 11 years, the Red Raiders -- all before Tubby Smith came to coach Texas Tech -- have beaten Kansas in Lubbock when the Jayhawks were ranked in the Top 10.

On Saturday night, the top-ranked Jawhawks held off the Red Raiders 69-59.

Baylor rallies from 11 down to beat No. 13 Iowa State on the road

Nobody ever seems to beat Iowa State at home. Nobody but Baylor, which once again stunned the Cyclones in Ames.

Johnathan Motley had a career-high 27 points and added 13 rebounds to help Baylor upset No. 13 Iowa State 94-89 on Saturday, handing the Cyclones their first home loss.

Holton, No. 17 West Virginia beat Oklahoma State 77-60

Devin Williams knows what's next, and he's not backing down.

"(Kansas) is No. 1. But what does that mean? What if we were put in the Top 10 when we first started? Where would we be? There's nothing we can do about that number they got," the West Virginia post player said.

Jonathan Holton scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds Saturday as No. 17 West Virginia beat Oklahoma State 77-60 in its first Big 12 home game this season.

Kansas becomes 4th No. 1 to fall in loss to No. 11 West Virginia

West Virginia's formula for winning -- going hard to the rim to score, chasing after bad shots and constantly pressuring opponents -- has the Mountaineers off to their best start in 34 years.

But coach Bob Huggins wasn't in a mood to put a historic spin on No. 11 West Virginia's 74-63 win over top-ranked Kansas on Tuesday night.

Texas upsets No. 17 Iowa State 94-91 in OT

Texas coach Shaka Smart insists his players maintain an acceptable level of spirit and a strong attitude while enduring adversity.

So how did the Longhorns respond when Iowa State erased a 13-point second-half deficit to send the game to overtime Tuesday night?

They came out confidently and aggressively in the overtime, defeating the 17th-ranked Cyclones 94-91.
