No. 2 Kansas blows lead, escapes K-State with 72-63 win

Second-ranked Kansas had to show plenty of fight to hold off Kansas State on Saturday.

Perry Ellis has the wounds to prove it.

The Jayhawks' leading scorer missed a long stretch in the second half with a gouge behind his right ear that required 12 stitches. Then, Ellis got scratched in the eye by teammate Wayne Selden Jr. during a flurry with the game in the balance, sending the senior forward to the bench once again.

Kansas wound up getting just enough from everyone else down the stretch for a 72-63 victory.

Johnathan Motley, No. 25 Baylor roll over No. 24 Texas

Baylor has a new scoring threat just in time for the Bears' stretch run in the Big 12.

Johnathan Motley scored 24 points on 12-of-13 shooting Saturday and the 25th-ranked Bears rolled to an impressive 78-64 victory over No. 24 Texas, handing the Longhorns a rare home loss this season.

No. 25 Texas outlasts Kansas State 71-70

With one of the top seeds at next month's Big 12 conference tournament still up for grabs, Isaiah Taylor knew No. 25 Texas couldn't afford to lose on the road this late in the season to an inexperienced Kansas State.

So when push came to shove late, Taylor provided the type of clutch effort a team needs to grind out road wins in league play.

The junior guard scored 19 points, including a 3-pointer to all but ice the game with less than a minute to play, and Texas held on to beat Kansas State 71-70 on Monday night.

Paige, Phillip lead No. 14 WVU over No. 17 Iowa St. 97-87

West Virginia's Jaysean Paige twisted an ankle a week ago when he landed on a teammate's foot in a game at Texas.

The ankle is just fine now, and Paige has the Mountaineers' offense on the mend, too.

Paige scored a career-high 34 points Monday night to lead No. 14 West Virginia to a 97-87 victory over No. 17 Iowa State.

No. 2 Kansas beats Baylor to draw closer to 12th straight Big 12 title

Landen Lucas and Wayne Selden felt the wrath of Kansascoach Bill Self at halftime, when the second-ranked Jayhawks trailed No. 19Baylor.

"I got on them hard at halftime, probably too hard," Self said.

They made up for it down the stretch, and got Kansas a step closer to its 12th consecutive Big 12 title with a 66-60 victory Tuesday night.

Spangler's 26 lead No. 3 Oklahoma past Oklahoma St. 71-49

Oklahoma State's game plan worked perfectly, except for one problem -- the man the Cowboys wanted to shoot couldn't miss.

Ryan Spangler scored a career-high 26 points, and No. 3 Oklahoma used a huge second half to beat Oklahoma State 71-49 on Wednesday night.

No. 2 Jayhawks beat Texas Tech for Big 12 title share

Jamari Traylor handed Kansas forward Perry Ellis a pair of navy blue scissors to take the final snips of the net, and with them the crowd in Allen Fieldhouse began to chant his name.

"It feels great," Ellis said after celebrating the second-ranked Jayhawks' 67-58 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday that wrapped up a share of their 12th straight Big 12 title. "You think of all the hard work and all of the hours you put in. It all pays off in the end. It's a relief."

No. 19 Baylor dominates inside to beat TCU 86-71

Johnathan Motley and the No. 19 Baylor Bears are learning how to play inside with limited help from burly forward-turned-NFL prospect Rico Gathers.

That's how coach Scott Drew sees it anyway.

Motley led a dominant effort around the basket with 22 points and nine rebounds, Taurean Prince scored 16 of his 22 in the second half and the Bears pulled away from TCU 86-71 on Saturday night.

No. 21 Iowa State beats Oklahoma State 58-50

Georges Niang said he was afraid before his final home game at Iowa State because he realized that he'd like to be in Ames forever.

Niang then went out and showed why Cyclones fans don't want to see him go either.

Abdel Nader scored 19 points, Niang added 17 with 10 rebounds and four assists and No. 21 Iowa State held off Oklahoma State 58-50 on Monday night.

No. 1 Kansas clinches 12th straight Big 12 regular-season title

Enough about winning a share of the Big 12 title: Kansas wanted the crown all to itself.

The top-ranked Jayhawks grabbed it in emphatic style Monday night, romping over No. 23 Texas 86-56, an impressive exclamation point on yet another title-winning season.

Hield scores 23 as No. 6 Oklahoma beats No. 19 Baylor 73-71

Oklahoma beat a Top 25 opponent on Senior Night, normally cause for celebration.

The joy was tempered because the sixth-ranked Sooners squandered a 26-point lead before regrouping to defeat No. 19 Baylor 73-71 on Tuesday night.

No. 10 West Virginia routs Texas Tech on senior night

Jaysean Paige was introduced on Senior Night at West Virginia as the "country's best sixth man." He certainly may be the Mountaineers' best man in some time.

Paige and Daxter Miles Jr. each scored 15 points and No. 10 West Virginia closed out its home regular season on senior night Wednesday by trouncing Texas Tech 90-68.

Late run gives No. 1 Kansas 85-78 win over No. 21 Iowa St.

Kansas coach Bill Self remembers a time early inPerry Ellis' career when the senior forward couldn't speak in front of a crowd.

It felt like a lifetime ago on Saturday afternoon.

Ellis, the often-reserved senior forward, charmed the crimson and blue faithful at Allen Fieldhouse with an emotional farewell speech that spanned laughs and tears.

"People say I've been here forever, and they're right. I got to play with Wilt Chamberlain and Danny Manning," Ellis joked. "Since I supposedly have unlimited eligibility, why don't I come back next year?"

Based on his performance Saturday, Kansas fans wouldn't have any objections.

Ellis scored 22 points, including a hook shot over Iowa State's Georges Niang to ice the game, and No. 1 Kansas stretched its nation-leading home winning streak to 42 games with a 85-78 victory over the No. 21 Cyclones.

Hield, No. 6 Sooners beat TCU 75-67 in regular-season finale

Buddy Hield and the sixth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners shrugged off a lethargic start for a win at last-place TCU and had to wait about an hour to find out their seeding for the Big 12 tournament.

Didn't really matter. Either way, the Sooners won't see No. 1 Kansas again until the league's postseason title game if they get that far.

"I have no doubt our team can win it all," said Hield, his eyes on the even bigger prize of the NCAA Tournament after scoring 21 points in a 75-67 victory over the Horned Frogs on Saturday in the last regular-season appearance at Oklahoma for the nation's second-leading scorer. "Feel like we've got a good coach, good players and we have all the pieces to win it all."

No. 10 West Virginia 2nd in Big 12 with win at No. 19 Baylor

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins has a lot of things he wishes his team would do better, like making more shots and passing in transition.

The No. 10 Mountaineers, however, have the most important qualities going into the postseason.

"They've got a great propensity to rally and keep competing," Huggins said. "Their will to win is pretty good. They're very resilient and they love to play."

West Virginia wrapped up second place in the Big 12 Conference, its best showing in four seasons since moving into the league, with a 69-58 victory at No. 19 Baylor on Saturday. The Mountaineers have a four-game winning streak since losing three of their previous four games.
