    TCU's Devonta Abron tears Achilles

TCU junior forward Devonta Abron is done for the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon on the team's recent trip to Canada.

Horned Frogs coach Trent Johnson told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the injury occurred with about five minutes remaining in the team's fourth and final game of the trip. Johnson said typical rehab for the injury is about five to six months.

Isaiah Austin ready for 2nd season

Baylor center Isaiah Austin, who underwent shoulder surgery in May, told ESPN that he is about 85 percent healthy and has a new outlook for his sophomore season.

"I've been practicing full-contact and full-speed," Austin said Thursday. "I've taken some hits from Cory [Jefferson] and Rico [Gathers] and my shoulder's holding up."

The 7-foot-1 Austin, who averaged 13 points and 8.3 rebounds as a freshman, said he initially injured the shoulder in Big 12 play. However, it became so painful after the season that it made his decision to remain in college for another season a no-brainer.

    Andrew Wiggins likely one-and-done

Kansas better win now because freshman Andrew Wiggins has acknowledged that he'll most likely be heading to the NBA next season.

In an interview for ESPN The Magazine's college basketball preview issue, Wiggins was asked what he's enjoyed most since he arrived at Kansas.

"I would say just being able to enjoy my last year of school," Wiggins said.

The 6-foot-8 wing is widely considered a lock to be the top pick in the 2014 draft if he declares.

He was asked his goals for this season.

"Win another championship, a national championship," he said. "Follow in Anthony Bennett's footsteps of going No. 1."

    Royce O'Neale granted waiver

Baylor will have the services of Denver transfer Royce O'Neale this season.

The school announced that the 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard, who averaged 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds last season for Joe Scott, received a waiver to play this season for the Bears.

Andew Wiggins leads Jayhawks with 16 points in season opener

His career wasn't even a minute old and Wiggins was already leaving his mark on Kansas.

While he disappeared at times, the highly touted freshman dazzled at others, finishing with 16 points in leading the fifth-ranked Jayhawks to an 80-63 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday night.

Nash, Forte help No. 8 Oklahoma St top MVSU 117-62

Too fast, too strong, too athletic. Oklahoma State was too much of everything.

The eighth-ranked Cowboys displayed those attributes Friday night in showing why they will be a team to reckon with this season.

Oklahoma State, with four starters returning from a 24-9 NCAA tournament squad that includes Preseason All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year Marcus Smart, opened its season with a 117-62 victory over Mississippi Valley State. Five players scored in double figures, led by Phil Forte, who hit 4 of 7 3-pointers in his 22 points. Le'Bryan Nash scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Smart played just 19 minutes in a game that saw the hosts lead 63-29 at the break.

Chery, Jefferson lead No. 25 Baylor over CU 72-60

Kenny Chery figures his most important job is getting to the ball to Baylor's heralded frontcourt duo of Cory Jefferson and Isaiah Austin.

The transfer guard still handled his share of the scoring in his first game for the No. 25 Bears.

Chery scored 14 points, Jefferson had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Baylor beat cold-shooting Colorado 72-60 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

Andrew Wiggins keys Kansas as Jayhawks push past Duke

Andrew Wiggins soared toward the hoop as Jabari Parker made one last attempt to stop his fellow freshman star.

No such luck. Kansas' silky-smooth newcomer owned the end of Parker's impressive homecoming.

Wiggins scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, outplaying Parker down the stretch and helping the fifth-ranked Jayhawks knock off No. 4 Duke 94-83 on Tuesday night.

No. 8 Oklahoma State cruises past Utah Valley

It took about 10 minutes for No. 8 Oklahoma State to get its motor running in a 55-point rout to open the season last Friday. In start No. 2 -- a 93-40 victory over Utah Valley on Tuesday night -- it took about half as long.

No. 23 Baylor wins 66-64 over South Carolina

Really, it seems only appropriate that No. 23 Baylor had to wait out a lengthy review before officials determined that the game ended just before yet another foul.

Brady Heslip scored 18 points with five 3-pointers and the Bears held on for a 66-64 victory over South Carolina on Tuesday, even without making a field goal in the final 7 minutes and after the foul that came following the final buzzer while the Gamecocks tried desperately to get a tying field goal.

No. 8 Oklahoma St beats Arkansas-Pine Bluff 97-63

Three victories by an average of 47 points to open the season can hardly be categorized as a test for eighth-ranked Oklahoma State. That all changes next week when the Cowboys host No. 13 Memphis.

Phil Forte and Markel Brown each scored 22 points as the Cowboys tuned up Friday night by beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 97-63.

Joel Embiid breaks out in No. 2 Kansas' surge over Iona

The gentleman dressed in the finely tailored suit, sitting among the teeming throng of Kansas fans inside Allen Fieldhouse, had never seen a real basketball game in person.

He knew enough to cheer when Joel Embiid dunked the ball, and the 7-foot freshman did it plenty of times Tuesday night.

Embiid finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds in a breakout performance, helping the second-ranked Jayhawks to an 86-66 victory over Iona -- one made all the sweeter by the center's father, Thomas, in the stands.

Marcus Smart scores 39 to power Oklahoma State's romp vs. Memphis

Oh sure, Marcus Smart definitely noticed Kevin Durant sitting courtside in Gallagher-Iba Arena. And he put together quite a performance for one of the NBA's most gifted scorers.

Smart scored a career-high 39 points, and No. 7 Oklahoma State raced past No. 11 Memphis for a 101-80 win Tuesday night in a one-sided matchup of top teams.

Andrew Wiggins, No. 2 Kansas race to rout of Towson

Every time that Towson missed a shot, it seemed as if somebody from Kansas was there to corral the rebound, throw an outlet pass and start the Jayhawks on the fast break.

Usually it ended up with a dunk.

Andrew Wiggins and the high-flying Jayhawks put together a highlight reel in the first half Friday night, rolling to a big lead over the over-matched Tigers. The nation's No. 2 team cruised in the second half to an 88-58 win in its opening game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.

DeAndre Kane leads No. 17 Iowa State in trouncing UMKC by 59 points

Iowa State already has shown it can beat good teams such as Michigan and BYU. The Cyclones also have proved they can dominate overmatched opponents.

DeAndre Kane had 20 points and eight rebounds, and 17th-ranked Iowa State trounced Missouri-Kansas City 110-51 on Monday night for its fifth straight win.

Baylor coasts despite 42 points from Chaminade's Christophe Varidel

Baylor wasn't about to become the latest upset at Maui despite the best efforts from Christophe Varidel.

Gary Franklin scored 22 points and the No. 18 Bears easily beat Division II Chaminade 93-77 on Monday night at the Maui Invitational, dominating in the second half after allowing the Silverswords 11 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes.

No. 18 Baylor rallies to survive Dayton's upset bid at buzzer

Baylor led Dayton for a little more than 16 seconds in the second half Tuesday night. They were the right 16 seconds.

Cory Jefferson had a go-ahead putback in the waning moments and the 18th-ranked Bears rallied for a 67-66 victory in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.
