No. 13 Kansas holds off Iowa State 83-77

Kansas responded to arguably its worst loss of the year with a much-needed win in a hostile environment -- one that kept the Jayhawks within reach of Big 12-leading Texas Tech.

Performances like the one they put forth on Tuesday night are a big reason why the Jayhawks win the Big 12 every year.

Udoka Azubuike scored 19 points, Malik Newman had 17 and 13th-ranked Kansas bounced back from a brutal loss at Baylor by beating Iowa State 83-77.

Evans, No. 7 Texas Tech top 23rd-ranked OU, Young, 86-78

Keenan Evans and the rolling Texas Tech Red Raiders had their defensive focus on Oklahoma freshman scoring sensation Trae Young.

So did the hostile home crowd, for a slightly different reason.

Evans scored 26 points and No. 7 Texas Tech beat the 23rd-ranked Sooners 88-78 on Tuesday night in Young's first college game in the city where the Division I scoring leader was born.

Baylor beats No. 7 Texas Tech, which loses top scorer Evans

Terry Maston is emerging as a go-to guy for the surging Baylor Bears. No. 7 Texas Tech hopes it didn't just lose top scorer Keenan Evans for any length of time.

Maston scored 24 points to lead the Bears to a 59-57 victory over the Red Raiders, whose seven-game winning streak ended Saturday night after the Big 12 leaders lost Evans to what coach Chris Beard said was a toe injury in the first half. The school initially reported it as a foot injury.

Azubuike leads No. 13 Kansas past No. 20 West Virginia 77-69

Bob Huggins didn't mince words in his postgame press conference after West Virginia lost to Kansas.

"They shot 29 free throws," Huggins said. "We shot two. You don't think that had anything to do with it?"

Huggins' rising frustration finally boiled over with eight seconds left, when he was given a double-technical and was ejected for jawing at a ref. It was a moot argument by that point though, as Udoka Azubuikescored 21 points and Devonte' Graham added 15 to help No. 13 Kansas beat No. 20 West Virginia 77-69 on Saturday night.

Graham leads No. 8 Kansas to 104-74 rout of Oklahoma

Two of the Big 12's most powerful offenses collided when No. 8 Kansas hosted Oklahoma. Only one lived up to the hype, though.

Devonte Graham had 23 points and seven assists, Malik Newmanadded 20 points and No. 8 Kansas beat Oklahoma 104-74 on Monday night in its first true blowout of the Big 12 season.

No. 21 West Virginia 71-60 win ends Baylor's 5-game streak

Daxter Miles Jr. stepped up with a kind of play West Virginia coach Bob Huggins has become accustomed to seeing, and it was needed after the No. 21 Mountaineers saw their 28-point get trimmed to 12.

Miles made a 3-pointer while being fouled with just under 7 minutes left, then added the free throw. That started a quick 9-1 spurt to regain the momentum, and they went on to a 71-60 win Tuesday night to end Baylor's five-game winning streak that had been the longest in the Big 12 Conference.

Smith's 21 help Oklahoma State upset No. 6 Texas Tech 79-71

Oklahoma State rewarded fans who braved the snow and ice with a memorable experience.

Kendall Smith scored 21 points to help the Cowboys stun No. 6 Texas Tech 79-71 on Wednesday night. Many students who were part of the crowd of 7,092 rushed the court after the game, though it was tame by Oklahoma State's standards.

Evans, No. 12 Texas Tech top TCU 79-75 to stop 4-game skid

Keenan Evans was looking at yet another low-scoring game since the foot injury that helped derail Texas Tech's hopes of ending Kansas' long Big 12 regular-season championship streak.

One half against TCU made it all feel better.

Evans scored all 23 of his points after halftime and the 12th-ranked Red Raiders stopped a four-game losing streak with a 79-75 win over the Horned Frogs in a Big 12 regular-season finale on Saturday.

Newman's career day lifts Kansas over Cowboys in Big 12s

Kansas had just been battered by Oklahoma State for the second time this season, a humiliating loss in Stillwater that sent the Jayhawks into the Big 12 Tournament rubbing their bruised egos.

Then the Cowboys raced out to a 10-point lead in their quarterfinal matchup.

Rather than fold, though, the ninth-ranked Jayhawks showed the kind of toughness they've been missing much of this season. Malik Newman scored a career-high 30 points, their backup big men made up for the absence of injured center Udoka Azubuike, and coach Bill Self's squad pulled away in the second half for an 82-68 victory over the Cowboys on Thursday.

Evans leads Texas Tech to 73-69 win over Texas in Big 12s

It was after Texas Tech lost to Texas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament, ending the Red Raiders' season, that Chris Beard defied his team to avoid a similar fate the next year.

They've certainly risen to the challenge.

Keenan Evans scored 25 points, including a pretty fadeaway jumper in the closing minutes, and the No. 14 Red Raiders held off hot-shooting Jacob Young and the Longhorns for a 73-69 victory on Thursday night that ushered them into the semifinal round for the first time since 2005.

No. 18 West Virginia tops No. 14 Texas Tech 66-63 at Big 12s

West Virginia has made a habit of reaching the Big 12 Tournament title game lately.

Now, the Mountaineers will try to end the habit of losing it.

Daxter Miles Jr. scored 22 points and Jevon Carter added 17, and the tournament's No. 3 seed advanced to its third straight championship game Friday night when Texas Tech's Niem Stevenson missed a half-court heave at the buzzer to give West Virginia a 66-63 victory over the No. 14 Red Raiders.

No. 9 Kansas eases by K-State, 83-67, in Big 12 semifinal

Kansas absorbed the biggest blows that short-handed Kansas State could land, played without its star big man for the second straight game and won its Big 12 Tournament semifinal comfortably.

You'd think that would be enough to make coach Bill Self happy.

"I thought they played better than us," he insisted after an 83-67 victory Friday night, "but I thought a lot of it was self-inflected. We couldn't guard them and offensively we weren't very smart.

Kansas tops West Virginia 81-70 to win Big 12 tourney title

Devonte Graham ripped off the shooting sleeve he was wearing and tossed it into the crowd, then took the two-time Big 12 defensive player of the year baseline for a pullup jumper.

    Talk about unflappable.

    Unstoppable, too.

The league's player of the year finished with 18 points and 13 assists, most of them during the decisive second half, and Graham led ninth-ranked Kansas to an 81-70 victory over Jevon Carter and No. 18 West Virginia in the Big 12 Tournament championship game Saturday night.

Top-seeded Kansas comes alive, beats Penn 76-60 in NCAAs

Devonte Graham kept driving to the rim, using his deft crossover and blinding first step to get past Penn's defenders, only to watch every shot he put up bounce out.

He turned to teammate Malik Newman and said, "Man, I'm just not finishing."

    Newman's reply: "Keep being aggressive."

    Graham evidently listened.

The Big 12 player of the year finally started to get his shots to go, igniting sluggish Kansas midway through the first half and finishing with 29 points, lifting the top-seeded Jayhawks to a tough, grind-it-out 76-60 victory over the Quakers in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Evans, Texas Tech surge late, top Stephen F Austin 70-60

Keenan Evans split through defenders, made a layup and then paused briefly to give a quick pose to the camera under the basket.

After Texas Tech lost in the NCAA Tournament two years ago and didn't even make the field last season, the All-Big 12 senior guard has earned some time in the spotlight before finishing his college career. He'll get at least one more game.

The third-seeded Red Raiders avoided another first-round exit when Evans scored 19 of his 23 points after halftime and they surged late to top Stephen F. Austin 70-60 on Thursday night.
