Moretti sparks No. 12 Texas Tech in 2nd half of 72-57 win

Davide Moretti provided the kind of spark No. 12 Texas Tech can rely on from the only returning starter from last season’s national runner-up that now has a bunch of freshmen.

Moretti scored 13 of his 19 points after halftime, including four 3-pointers, and the Red Raiders kept making their free throws to finally pull away for a 72-57 victory over Tennessee State on Thursday night.

No. 22 Texas beats Cal in 2K Empire Classic consolation

Coach Shaka Smart wanted to see No. 22 Texas rebound after giving up a season-high 82 points in a loss to Georgetown the night before. The Longhorns responded, holding California to a season low.

Matt Coleman III scored 14 points, Jericho Sims had 12 points and nine rebounds and Texas beat California 62-45 on Friday night in the 2K Empire Classic consolation game.

Teague scores 21, No. 24 Baylor beats Coastal Carolina

Baylor clamped down on Coastal Carolina, either taking the ball away or forcing the Chanticleers into tough shots. That tenacity kept the Bears from becoming their latest upset victim.

MaCio Teague scored 21 points and Baylor pulled away to beat Coastal Carolina 77-65 on Friday night in a Myrtle Beach Invitational semifinal.

Butler scores 22, No. 24 Baylor tops No. 17 Villanova, 87-78

Villanova and Baylor spent about 35 minutes trading buckets -- and the lead -- during a high-level game that could have passed for a Sweet 16 matchup.

Once Jared Butler and the 24th-ranked Bears got hot, the No. 17 Wildcats simply couldn't stop them.

Butler scored 10 of his 22 points during the final 6 minutes, helping Baylor pull away for an 87-78 victory over Villanova on Sunday night.

No. 4 Kansas cruises over Chaminade 93-63 in Maui

Kansas was good, not great, and had to play most of the first half without big man Udoka Azubuike.

The fourth-ranked Jayhawks were certainly better than Division II Chaminade, earning them a spot in the Maui Invitational semifinals. That's enough -- for now.

Devin Dotson scored 19 points, Azubuike added 15 despite early foul trouble and Kansas cruised to a 93-63 victory over the Silverswords on Monday.

No. 4 Kansas beats BYU 71-56 for spot in Maui title game

Kansas had a hard time keeping up with Brigham Young’s motion offense early in the Maui Invitational semifinals. The Cougars move fast, cut hard and shoot well, so it was no surprise.

Once the Jayhawks were able to measure what BYU was doing, they clamped down and earned a shot at another tournament title.

David McCormack scored 16 points, Ochai Agbaji added 14 and No. 4 Kansas turned a huge second half into a trip to the Maui championship game with a 71-56 victory Tuesday night.

No. 4 Kansas beats Dayton 90-84 in overtime for Maui title

Devon Dotson seemed to be running on fumes as the game wore on, but he still made big shots and continually found ways to get to the rim.

Big man Udoka Azubuike bulled his way through Dayton's defense all day, particularly in overtime, and even hit his free throws.

The duo is one of the best Bill Self has had in 16 seasons at Kansas.

They're certainly a big reason the Jayhawks won their third Maui Invitational title and will be among the favorites to cut down the nets in April.

Dotson scored 31 points, Azubuike had seven of his 29 in overtime and No. 4 Kansas outlasted Dayton 90-84 in the Maui Invitational championship game on Wednesday.

Butler scores 20 as No. 18 Baylor wins 78-46 over 0-10 team

No. 18 Baylor avoided any letdown at home against a winless team after a lengthy break.

The next two home games almost certainly won't be this easy for the Bears.

Jared Butler made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points, Devonte Bandoo added 14 points and Baylor led throughout in a 78-46 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Tuesday night.

No. 18 Baylor beats No. 12 Arizona 63-58 in freebie for fans

MaCio Teague heard the crowd with No. 18 Baylor at home and tipping off about the same time the Bears' football team started the Big 12 championship game 100 miles north of campus.

It wasn't hard for the sophomore guard to figure out which squad many of those fans were there to watch: 12th-ranked Arizona.

"It felt like a road game," Teague said after scoring 19 points in the Bears' 63-58 victory Saturday. "Especially when they did the, `U of, U of A,' whatever they were doing. I heard it. It was pretty loud in there."

No. 11 Baylor holds on for a 53-52 win over No. 18 Butler

Mark Vital and his Baylor teammates now get to study for final exams. They have already passed a couple big tests on the court.

Vital blocked Kamar Baldwin's potential go-ahead shot with 1.5 seconds left and No. 11 Baylor won its second game in a row over a Top 25 opponent, holding on to beat previously undefeated No. 18 Butler 53-52 on Tuesday night.

No. 2 Kansas rides hot start to 95-68 win over UW-Milwaukee

It wasn't the 3-pointers that Ochai Agbaji poured in for Kansas, nor the smooth jumpers and easy layups that Devon Dotson put away, that left the pair with toothy grins after a rout of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Tuesday night.

It was the alley-oop Dotson threw and Agbaji turned into a reverse jam.

"I just wanted to put some style on it," Agbaji said, when asked whether the 180-degree turn was necessary because of the pass. "I just jumped and I was like, 'Man, might as well."

Indeed, it was all about style most of the night for second-ranked Kansas, which roared to a big early lead before coasting to a 95-68 victory.

No. 24 Texas Tech avoids upset, beats Southern Miss 71-65

Texas Tech is back in the AP Top 25 after the school's first-ever win over a No. 1 team.

The 24th-ranked Red Raiders did just enough to stay there against a team that had already been blown out twice by ranked opponents this season.

Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 18 points and Texas Tech rallied in the second half for a 71-65 victory over Southern Miss on Monday night.

No. 24 Texas Tech holds off Texas-Rio Grande Valley 68-58

Freshman Jahmi'us Ramsey didn't take long finding a way to get involved after missing four games for No. 24 Texas Tech with a hamstring injury, scoring on an alley-oop dunk within the first three minutes.

Ramsey didn't score again in the first half but wound up with 15 points, and the Red Raiders overcame another sluggish start in a 68-58 victory over Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday.
