Oklahoma State sharp after long break, routs Robert Morris

Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford took a look at the Cowboys' assist total against Robert Morris on Monday night and smiled the smile of an old point guard.

No. 6 Oklahoma State recorded 27 assists on 32 baskets in a 92-66 romp over the Colonials that served as a prep game for the Cowboys' Big 12 Conference opener on Saturday at Kansas State. It was Oklahoma State's highest assist total since recording 27 against Nebraska on Feb. 19, 2000.

Taurean Prince leads key run as Baylor overcomes slow start

Taurean Prince and the No. 9 Baylor Bears just needed some time to get on track in their first game after the Christmas break. They then got on quite a roll.

Prince came off the bench and scored 10 of his 16 points in the go-ahead run as the Bears went on to an 81-55 victory over Oral Roberts on Monday night

No. 16 Kansas deals Toledo their first loss

It took Kansas coach Bill Self just 35 seconds to burn his first timeout Monday night.

"You know what? I screwed it up," he would explain later, "because I should have taken a timeout five seconds into the game after our first turnover."

Instead, he waited until the Jayhawks had turned it over twice and let Toledo score an easy bucket before calling his team over to the sideline. What ensued was an animated discussion that centered on defense -- or rather, the complete lack thereof.

No. 16 Kansas responded in fine enough fashion to pull out a 93-83 victory, and deal the Rockets their first loss of the season. But it wasn't enough to stop Self from spending about 15 minutes in his postgame news conference lamenting the sorry state of the Jayhawks defense.

    Michael Cobbins suffers injury

Oklahoma State may have lost Michael Cobbins for the season after the starting center suffered what is feared to be an Achilles tendon injury in the No. 6 Cowboys' 92-66 victory against Robert Morris on Monday night.

Cobbins hobbled off the floor just three minutes into the game and did not return. Coach Travis Ford said Cobbins would be examined by doctors on Tuesday.

No. 25 Kansas State beats TCU 65-47

Thomas Gipson knew he didn't play very well last season when he traveled home for Kansas State's game at TCU, and he admits he was a little anxious for Tuesday night's game, too.

But with 24 family members cheering him on, Gipson had 19 points and eight rebounds, and No. 25 Kansas State ran its winning streak to 10 games with a 65-47 victory over TCU.

Selden scores 24 as No. 18 Kansas beats Oklahoma

Thanks to a productive offense, Oklahoma had been able to somewhat overlook its defensive lapses as the Sooners raced to an 11-1 start this season.

But those problems now are starting to manifest themselves as losses. No. 18 Kansas shot 55 percent from the field in a 90-83 win over Oklahoma on Wednesday night.

Taurean Prince's career game boosts Baylor past TCU

Taurean Prince is getting comfortable in his role off the bench for No. 7 Baylor, and contributing in a big way.

Add in sharp-shooter Brady Heslip, and these Bears have quite a scoring punch after the starting five.

Prince scored 15 of his career-high 23 points when Baylor took control before halftime and Heslip had 15 points on five 3-pointers as the Bears beat instate Big 12 rival TCU 88-62 on Saturday for their 13th straight home win.

Andrew Wiggins, No. 18 Kansas easily beat No. 25 Kansas State

Andrew Wiggins is from Canada, Wayne Selden from Massachusetts and Joel Embiid from the African nation of Cameroon. None of them grew up around the Kansas basketball program.

None of them grew up around the Jayhawks' rivalry with Kansas State.

So all week, the trio of freshmen -- along with the rest of the Jayhawks -- were subjected to videos on the rivalry. Kansas coach Bill Self wanted to drive home the importance that those games against the Wildcats have taken on over the years.

The message must have come through quite clearly.

Wiggins scored 22 points, Selden added 20 and the No. 18 Jayhawks routed the 25th-ranked Wildcats 86-60 on Saturday for their sixth straight win in the series.
