Melvin Ejim, DeAndre Kane, Georges Niang power Iowa State

With the NCAA tournament just about a month away, teams are going to lean on their stars more than ever.

Iowa State standouts Melvin Ejim, DeAndre Kane and Georges Niang showed why the Cyclones could be in great shape come March.

Ejim scored 25 points, DeAndre Kane added 22 and Niang had 20 to help No. 17 Iowa State beat 19th-ranked Texas 85-76 on Tuesday night for its fifth victory in six games.

Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid power No. 8 Kansas by No. 19 Texas

Andrew Wiggins exacted a little bit of revenge on Texas.

So did the rest of the Jayhawks.

On the eve of his 19th birthday, the freshman put on a dazzling display of outside shooting and rim-rattling dunks. Wiggins finished with 21 points to lead the eighth-ranked Jayhawks to an 85-54 rout of No. 19 Texas, helping them seize control of the Big 12 race.

DeAndre Kane scores 20 as Iowa State holds off TCU

DeAndre Kane and Georges Niang had the answers for Iowa State after Melvin Ejim's chance for another record game against TCU disappeared early.

Kane scored 20 points, Niang had 19 points and eight rebounds and the 17th-ranked Cyclones kept the Horned Frogs winless in the Big 12 with a 71-60 victory Saturday.

Marcus Smart leads Oklahoma State to upset of No. 5 Kansas

Marcus Smart had no intention of avoiding Joel Embiid, Kansas' 7-foot shot blocker.

Even after a first half in which he missed all seven shots, Oklahoma State's star guard remained intent on challenging one of the nation's most intimidating post players.

Smart's strategy worked. He scored 20 of his 21 points in the second half to help the Cowboys defeat the fifth-ranked Jayhawks 72-65 on Saturday night and give a major boost to his team's once-fading NCAA tournament hopes.

Kansas St. outlasts No. 15 Iowa St., Melvin Ejim's double-double

Melvin Ejim and DeAndre Kane did all they could for No. 15 Iowa State on Saturday night. Outside of that dynamic scoring duo, though, hardly anyone else came through.

The rest of the Cyclones shot 6-for-35 (17 percent) from the field in an 80-73 loss to Kansas State, which put five players in double figures.

Isaiah Cousins leads Oklahoma past No. 24 Texas

Isaiah Cousins has made it a recent focus to play aggressive on both ends of the basketball court and try to be more consistent. The result has been a boon for the Sooners.

Cousins scored a career-high 24 points and Oklahoma gained ground in the race for second place in the Big 12 with a 77-65 win over No. 24 Texas on Saturday.

Tarik Black perfect from field as No. 8 Kansas rolls over Texas Tech

Tarik Black pulled a Big 12 championship T-shirt over his broad shoulders, slipped a title hat on his head, and then gave Andrew Wiggins and the rest of his teammates a hug.

In the background stood the trophies, all 10 of them, brought onto the court at Allen Fieldhouse -- a perfect ending to Black's nearly perfect senior night.

The transfer from Memphis scored 19 points on 9-for-9 shooting, more than making up for the loss of injured center Joel Embiid, and led the eighth-ranked Jayhawks to an 82-57 victory over Texas Tech on Wednesday night.

West Virginia overcomes Andrew Wiggins' 41 points to stun Kansas

Its NCAA chances all but gone, West Virginia showed it still has some fight left in a lackluster season.

West Virginia built a 25-point lead and had to withstand 41 points by freshman Andrew Wiggins and a furious comeback by No. 8 Kansas to upset the Jayhawks 92-86 in their Big 12 regular-season finale Saturday.

No. 23 Sooners earn Big 12 2nd seed, 97-67 at TCU

TCU coach Trent Johnson didn't even look at the end of his bench, where six Horned Frog players sat in white polo shirts and slacks instead of uniforms.

None of those guys can help on the court right now.

Buddy Hield scored 24 points and No. 23 Oklahoma clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's Big 12 tournament with a 97-67 victory Saturday at TCU, the league's first team in 10 years to go through the regular season without winning a conference game.

No. 10 Kansas tops Oklahoma St. in OT of Big 12 quarterfinals

    - Andrew Wiggins gathered the ball along the baseline with about a minute left in regulation, turned around and put up the kind of fade-away jumper that will soon make him millions.

When it splashed through the net, his teammates on the Kansas bench leaped to their feet.

Energized by the clutch play of their talented freshman, the No. 10 Jayhawks held on to force overtime, then pulled away for a 77-70 victory over Oklahoma State on Wednesday that earned them a spot in the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament.

No. 16 Iowa State beats K-State in Big 12 tourney

Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg wanted to see an up-and-down game against plodding Kansas State, one where the scoreboard would spin like a slot machine as points piled up.

He certainly didn't want to see the Wildcats with 85 points by the end of it.

"They do such a good job of slowing you down," Hoiberg said. "If you would have told me they were going to score 85, I would have told you that we were going to have trouble winning the game."

He was right in one respect: The Cyclones did have trouble. But behind another big game from Melvin Ejim, the Big 12's player of the year, and plenty of help from his supporting cast, the No. 16 Cyclones held on for a 91-85 victory in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.

Baylor nearly blows 21-point lead, holds off No. 17 Oklahoma

The first two times that Baylor played Oklahoma this season, the Bears struggled through the opening minutes and failed to get on track until it was a bit too late.

This time, they delivered the opening blow.

The Bears roared to a 21-point lead early in the second half Thursday night, and then held off a frantic rally by the Sooners for a 78-73 victory in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.

Bloodied Georges Niang, Iowa State knock off KU to reach Big 12 final

Georges Niang walked off the floor in the closing minutes with a bloody towel pressed tightly to his forehead, pumping his fist and riling up the Iowa State fans in the Sprint Center.

Turns out he was just jumpstarting the celebration.

Niang scored 25 points before leaving with that gash above his right eye, and the No. 16 Cyclones held on down the stretch to beat No. 10 Kansas 94-83 Friday night and reach their first Big 12 tournament title game since 2000.

No. 16 Iowa State beats Baylor for first Big 12 title since 2000

In the days after DeAndre Kane decided to transfer to Iowa State, the former Marshall guard sent a simple, five-word text message to new teammate Georges Niang.

It said: "I just want to win."

Kane did everything in his power to deliver on Saturday night, scoring 17 points to jump-start a struggling offense. Niang had 13 points, and together they helped the No. 16 Cyclones rally for a 74-65 victory over Baylor and their first Big 12 tournament title since 2000.

Cameron Ridley buzzer-beater lifts Texas over Arizona State

The shot was long, and it smacked hard off the glass in the final seconds. That's when big Cameron Ridley, standing every bit of 6-foot-9 and 285 pounds, reached down, picked up the ball and put it in as time expired.

Hello, Texas, and welcome back to March Madness.

The Longhorns made a successful return to the NCAA tournament when Ridley's layup lifted his team to an 87-85 victory over Arizona State on Thursday night.

Cory Jefferson, No. 6 seed Baylor hold off No. 11 Nebraska

In January, Baylor couldn't have even counted on making the NCAA tournament. This kind of March hot streak is starting to look familiar to the Bears.

Cory Jefferson scored 16 points and the sixth-seeded Bears coasted in their first tournament game since falling in the Elite Eight two years ago, beating No. 11 seed Nebraska 74-60 in the second round Friday.

No. 2 seed Kansas turns aside pesky No. 15 Eastern Kentucky

Bill Self gathered his team around the bench late in Friday's game against Eastern Kentucky, one that had grown a bit too close for comfort for the second-seeded Jayhawks.

His team had gone back to chucking up jumpers, the scrappy Ohio Valley Conference champions had regained the lead, and thoughts of Mercer's upset of Duke earlier in the day were on everyone's mind.

"I thought we responded as a group," Self said.

The Jayhawks resumed pounding away inside out of the timeout, slowly took control down the stretch and pulled away for an 80-69 victory in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
