I was just reading that carrying Connaughton will essentially cost the Blazers more than $4 million when you factor in luxury tax. Is he worth it? That's a rhetorical question. So the question is what happens next? Is he included in a trade? Do we carry 14 next year? Do we sign a vet who could actually contribute? Tony Allen? Ian Clark? Shabazz? How fast will this thread go off the tracks?

Well Olshey might be looking for a trade before July 25 and he will use Pat as a filler.

Or, he might be looking to make a trade by then to move one of our bloated contracts, like (ahem) Allen Crabbe, and keep Pat on a cheap contract.

Maybe the problem is I saw better players in the SL than Pat. I am all for it if we can unload one our bloated contract.

Pat started 2 games at the end of the season and averaged 17,5,5 for us. many say small sample, but then use summer league against him?

Pat has a good shot. He's cheap. You keep him if no trade materializes.

Seems like everyone wroteCJ off. Then everyone wrote crabbe off. Now pat should be cut. He's a decent prospect playing behind better players. Not a reason to waive him at all.

Shabazz averaged 28/5/3 in those same 2 games.

    Trade Dame?

Or a reflection of end of the season, scrubs playing..

I can't come up with a case against him, but I can come up with a case for him.

Pop played the Spurs starters and they were playing to win and Pat C played great.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I still think if you can't find a better player for the roster spot, both he and Layman are worth keeping in case they blossom into some (lesser) version of Kyle Korver. As cheap reserves, shooters are always nice.

If you can find someone better, sure, cut him. He doesn't have enough promise that he should be kept over a player who's simply better.

I would rather have what's his name. Let Patty go play baseball.

1.) Were using this years Summer League as well as the rest of his career outside of those 2 games to base him on.
2.) Never use CJ to justify keeping Pat. Never.
3.) The only reason Crabbe is in the league is because he's a 40% 3pt shooter, something Pat will never be.

Imagine being about 25, a millionaire, playing sparse minutes and being called filler in a trade deal.

Crabbe's not going anywhere. The sooner you accept this reality the sooner your life will be happier.

Really? I'm already a pretty giddy dude. I happen to like Allen Crabbe as a player. I only used him in my post because of Minstrel's previous comment about him.

OK, I tried your thought exercise, and I got stuck at '25 and a millionaire.' What does being called 'filler' supposed to do to me? I'm still going to be 25 and a millionaire in this scenario right?

I understand that. I also understand that is 1 game and he has plenty of other opportunities to show that it wasn't a flash in the pan, such as summer league, his other regular appearances etc. Furthermore, Shabazz played in that same game, right? He played well?

Why don't you wanna ship off Dame? Since Shabazz so easily replaced his numbers for one game against the Spurs starters (and he actually showed consistency, unlike Patty C. Shabazz rarely got minutes, and when he did, he was ready to play. He didn't need to find his game, or get used to playing, etc.)
