@tester551 ..D69 likes Saddiq Bey and his teammate Williams. That is where I got that from. He thinks Bey is better now but that Williams has higher potential down the road.
If we get either of the Bey I would be so happy. Saddiq is more of an all around SF who can do a little bit of everything. But nothing elite. While Tyler is an elite defender and a solid rebounder. His offensive game does need work. But in our offense he just need to at least develop a corner 3. Patrick Williams would be cool, but I don’t trust our development system. And the last time we took a guy who didn’t start on his college team turned out a meh. Now about the complaints about how we shouldn’t draft a forward. People have said it and I am gonna say it now. Trent is a 2 who can occasionally guard 3. Same thing with Hood but he’s coming back from a devastating injury and was never a good defender to begin with. Ariza is a 3 who is only getting older and we don’t even know if he’s coming back. If we do bring him back then he would be a good mentor for any young forwards. Little is still developing. Hoard belong in the G league. Gabriel is nice but a long away from being ready. And about back up PG, CJ got that covered especially with the rise of Trent. And we got Nurkic and Collins in the paint. We just need a vet there not a developing big man there. And lastly I much rather take a chance on the next Kawhi, next Draymond Green of the world than the next Ibaka, next Embiid of the world. Elite wings are more important than elite big men in today’s nba
He’s an interesting prospect. He’s either a boom or bust type prospect. Either could be a hedo or Mario. He got the potential to be very good at literally almost everything. But he’s not consistent like at all. So I think his career will be more like batum
Bey went to Villanova. I believe you're talking about Patrick Williams who went to Florida State. William's teammate is Vassell (who I really like), not Bey...
Yes, that's it. He was talking about all of them and I got their teams confused. He likes all 3 for different reasons. Good catch.
Tyler Bey has a poor jumpshot, mediocre athleticism, and got outplayed by almost every high level matchup he went against. His defense is okay but he struggled against bigger, more athletic players, the likes of which he'll face in the NBA. He's not worth a first round pick, let alone #16.
@Rastapopoulos How about instead of a "case for" series, you do a "versus" series with a poll. For example, I'd be really interested in what people think of "Which should the Blazers draft? Patrick Williams VS. Aaron Nesmith" just a thought, you've been active. After 6 or 7 VS series polls, you could then bracket the results, creating an s2 mock draft of sorts.
Defensive Impact: With a +7.0 DBPM, 3.3 stocks per 36 minutes, 3.1 STL% and 4.2 BLK%, Bey’s defensive impact is simply elite on and off the ball. He even added 2.5 defensive win shares this year… Regarding rim protection, Bey is simply excellent. He rotates incredibly well, stays vertical, uses his length and bounce effectively, and has excellent instincts, anticipation, and timing. his impact as a rotating (non-big) rim protector is incredibly valuable. His ability to generate turnovers at a higher rate is also highly valuable, as Bey does not need to gamble significantly to create extra possessions for his team. Defending Without Fouling: Rarely getting into foul trouble, Bey never once fouled out during his junior year. He only averaged 1.9 fouls per game, and as such an impactful defender who defends multiple positions this is quite a positive trait. It helps showcases his switch-ability effectiveness and versatility… His quickness, high IQ technique, and fluidity all contribute to this. Defensive Rebounding: Bey does an excellent job of grabbing rebounds, both uncontested and contested. He rebounds at a rather high rate, finishing at 32.7% in 18-19 and 27.9% in 19-20. He can rebound out of his area effectively using smart positioning and his physical tools… He will provide value on the glass from the wing/stretch 4 spot, especially if he strengthens up. https://ahbanalytics.wordpress.com/2020/03/30/scouting-report-tyler-bey-3-30-20/
The thing I like about Tyler is his defensive versatility. Outside of Precious, he might be the most versatile defender in this class. His experience banging inside will speed up his transition to the league imo. I think he can play immediately, even while his perimeter game is a work in progress. The Marion comp is actually a good one.
