For those of you that are so high or low on Whiteside, why? I've only seen highlights and box scores. Does he pass the eye test? How's his BBIQ?
Whiteside plays limited minutes but is very effective. Scores down in the paint, rebounds really well and blocks a ton of shots. He's quickly becoming one of the best post players in the league. He would help us greatly.
Whiteside in his 2nd season came in 3rd place in Defensive Player of Year voting, and he had a case that he should have won it. He's #2 in rebound rate in the NBA, only behind Andre Drummond this year. He was #1 in blocks per game and 48 minute rate. Anyone talking poorly about him hasn't watched the Heat much and is just grasping at straws. He's the best FA on the market this summer that isn't named KD or LeBron.
Sort of... before March, he averaged ~50% (obviously not good) BUT from March through to the end of the season (he changed his ft shooting technique), he averaged ~74%! However, in 8 games (playoffs), he's averaging ~60%.
Whiteside is a very good basketball player but the comparison to DeAndre is also good because he, like Jordan, has a very low BBIQ.
I think people are undervaluing whiteside, and overvaluing plumlee. But they could play together and they're pretty much opposites so I don't understand the bitching by everyone.
I'm actually not sure about either of their bb iq's. Sometimes they do things and I think their amazing, and other times they do things that leave me scratching my head. But I know this, deandre is worth every penny that the clippers spent on him, and whiteside (in my opinion) is just as good, if not, better than deandre. Plus whiteside is actually showing real signs of offensive talent. If we're gonna start dame and cj, we need whiteside, or a prime Orlando Howard.
I would HATE to see both Aminu and Vonleh in the starting unit again. Only one - at most - should be starting, and ideally neither. If either one is starting, we need two new starters at the other front-court positions.
I see what your doing. Ill semi bite.... Uhhh no... I think we made the playoffs this year and I think the bulk of the roster will be improved next year. Then we can assess the holes and fill the gaps to improve for the following years to come. Nice try though.... And hey. If we make the playoffs for the next 5 straight seasons but dont win it all will I be upset? Hell know. We have a winning team and a winning culture. Do you know how hard it is to win a ring??? You must find a little more to keep you happy or your going to be nothing but unhappy with the team.... Again... nice try kiddo!
Plumlee would be in the running for sixth man of the year every year we still had him if we got Whiteside, and he would be a very valuable trading piece. I bet he's worth more than a late first round player like RHJ now.
He can make plays... Though at times it looks like he's in high school with the boneheaded things he does. He doesn't have very good lateral foot speed like DJ/Shaq/Noel. He's closer to Nards on terms of lateral quickness... Maybe Pryzbilla.. But 100% not elite like the first three players I mentioned. He has a couple more moves than DJ does in the post but it's far from polished. At times he goes soft to the rim instead of using his power/size to dominate. Lobs though he does go hard every time. Personally you could do worse. But I'm not sure he's a guy that deserves max. or is the missing piece.
Plumlee, aside from game three against the Warriors, has been our best player. This position is fine. PF is a HUGE hole right now. Vonleh is a project and Aminu is a backup on a playoff team. Horford would be ideal.
Plum in game 2 made whole bunch bonehead plays. Yes in the 1st series he play great because how they play us. He just not big or strong enough against Golden State. This off season he has to get stronger. I'm not saying he bad player because he not he just need to get stronger.
