She might be the most moronic woman politician I have ever been sickened to see on video. Sarah Palin might be in there somewhere too. However, I am not opposed to spending what amounts to chump change on extending unemployment benefits as long as we quit wasting money on other crap. Like the walls they put around the freeway in Vegas with pretty painted landscapes on them.

I wish we could throw them all out and start over.

It must be nice to be a conservative on S2. Everything bad that happens to you (losing your job, not being able to afford health care, etc.) is your own fault, and if you were really in trouble, you'd just work harder and get 5 full-time jobs (that is, if you can find them) to pay all your bills, provide food and a roof for your family, and put money in savings. You are just a slacker if you get into any financial problems, because EVERYONE should have enough money to handle any emergency. Oh well, thank god for economic darwanism! Better that the "lower class" just die off from poor nutrition or lack of medical care.

How do these beliefs let you sleep at night?

not against unemployment benefits at all. they are important in this poor economy. I support them versus some of the stupid bailouts and car rebate programs...so compared to those, I guess they are a stimulus plan!

I prefer to rely on myself rather than looking to a nanny state.

BTW, I sleep at night by helping people directly and giving to worthy charities rather than being forced to give up my hard-earned money to a bureaucracy that wastes my money like Pacman Jones at a strip club.

I suppose if I held them, it would be nice to, and to sleep well at night, but those are only chris_in_pdx's beliefs of what conservatives on S2 think :)

We went through a pretty bad recession during the end of Clinton's presidency. Millions of jobs were lost rather quickly when the dot bomb bubble burst, and those were a lot of high tech / professional career type jobs. Real estate tanked, but people were able to hang on. Without the disincentive to work that never ending unemployment benefits represent, people formed new businesses in their garages (Google being the most prominent one), and those businesses were the old fashioned kind - make money or fail.

I don't see anyone complaining about there being a safety net, such as chris_in_pdx's suggested emergencies that arise.

For the most part, I think people do want quality jobs instead of unemployment.
