yes Stanford fans have been historically apathetic about their football team, but the times they are a changing. A few years back they relaxed their entrance requirements for athletes to merely high giving them a larger pool of talent to draw from. Their new stadium is amazing and they've started filling it up. Two years ago I bought tix through stubhub for the sold out Oregon game and got great seats at a reasonable price. This year's options are decidedly less and are available for a King's ransom. Cal has played in a splinters in your ass dump (Memorial Stadium) that is getting a major facelift. Oregon is a pretty good example of what can happen if you upgrade your facilities. nice hyperbole. The two Bay Area schools are investing in their facilities and are directly drawing from a much bigger talent pool and closer to an even bigger one (SoCal). It's not like I'm rooting for them or the Huskies either, just being realistic STOMP
Born and raised in Portland, I grew up rooting for the ducks, but went to UW. I didn't go to any games (all my friends/roomates did though), but I never saw any "hate" towards Oregon. Rivalry, yes, but not the type of hate that I hear from UO fans. I'm a Husky fan first, Duck fan 2nd and rest of Pac 10 fan 3rd (maybe Colorado/Utah 4th)
You are a rare breed my friend and must not listen to KJR or read many husky websites. UW's hate for the Duck's is much much worse than it used to be, just read any blog or message board.
I casually read one message board. Seems like it is made up of 75% good Husky fans, 15% idiot Husky fans (the ones probably that would be fighting in the stands) and then 10% idiot duck/WSU fans. Of course the idiot fans (from UW and Oregon/WSU) make the most noise on the board, so that is what gets noticed the most. I don't listen to KJR though, so I can't comment on it. I live in San Diego, which is why I have to read the message board to get any info on what's going on.
Husky fans are horrible. I have a few buddies who went there, they have always hated the Ducks. I think the tip of the iceberg was when we stole J-Stew out of their own backyard.
All I know is that you support a team that has players attracted to sheep and you're talking about super hot chickens. I just figured that's a young man's game and something you grow out of with age...
We've decided to go to The Ram at Northgate Mall. I won't be wearing any Ducks gear, but might squeeze out a Ducks cheer here and there. Pray for me?
And Microsoft. And Boeing. And Paccar. And Amazon. And, for better or worse, they have the Huskies. In terms of Pac-12 football, it's a big deal that the university (field and campus) are in the city limits. If the U of O were in Portland, instead of Eugene, it would probably have been a much bigger deal than it was before it because what it is today. Stanford and Cal are in a larger media market, obviously, but they don't have the impact that UW has in terms of football IMO. I dislike UW, don't get me wrong. But they ARE a big deal to this city and if/when they get good again they'll find national respect easier to come by than many Pac-12 teams do. Ed O.
