Brooklyn's pick is not protected. It plus Smart is good value for CJ, plus it would probably guarantee we keep our pick this year too. Those in the "must add more talent" camp should be thrilled if something like that happened.
If we trade CJ, we need a get a good starter for him. Smart would make a good backup on a contending team similar to Dellavedova’s role on the Cavs. This draft class is very weak; even Brooklyn’s pic at #3 could be a bust. Trading CJ for Smart and Brooklyn’s pic feels like a giant step……..backwards. It would take a season or two just to get back to where we are now, maybe.
I agree but if trading CJ also got you Brooklyn's pick AND you kept your own at around #8-10, that would be at least something I would consider. Right now, NbaDraft.net projects that would net you Jaylen Brown at #3, a 6'7" bruising SG out of Cal and somewhere around Poeltl, Sabonis, Hield, Murray with the 2nd pick.
Yep, DX has Brown at 5 and Rabb at 10. Those certainly wouldn't be a bad pair of picks to add to a young roster still including Lillard/Smart/Crabbe/Aminu/Harkless/Vonleh/Plumlee/Leonard. Overall, probably a talent upgrade, and would likely ensure that we'd keep our 2017 #1 as well. If they're looking to add a reliable, explosive scorer this year, that might be their best option.
Well, apparently Bill Simmons thinks we should trade CJ for Love straight up. Not that it means anything, but there you go.
That would be great but one of those players was a top Defensive guard in the league which neither Dame or CJ are anywhere near. Dumars also didn't need the ball as much to be effective. He could handle it but Isaiah had it the majority of the time and Joe's game fit in perfectly with that.
Not sure when it happens but I think Colangelo moves one of his big men and likely 1 of the 3 Draft picks he has. Not that this means anything but Lehigh was just a stones throw away from Philadelphia and CJ would be a nice counter balance to all of their big men.
On sports radio LA they had a long discussion about Love. (Mychal Thompson and Co.) ) They have coveted him for a while to be a Laker. But now they don't want him. The consensus is he is nothing but your average shooting stretch 4 who can't defend. And those type of players seem to be everywhere nowadays, except in KLoves case he is getting 21 million. Bottom line is he has been exposed. Personally I would consider him for the Blazers for a package like Vonleh and maybe one of our defensive minded wings that Cleveland seems to need. (Aminu or Harkless) I do like his passing skills and rebounding. But sure as hell not for CJ. Love will be going to his 3rd team so maybe his ego will be more realistic. He is what he is, a nice 3rd option on offense and a below average defender. We would be doing Cleveland a favor by taking his huge contract. He is good, just not great.
You think Vonleh/Aminu for Love makes Cleveland better? Or is this one of those "true sarcasm doesn't need green font" kind of things?
Addition by subtraction. Vonleh would be for the future. But Tristan Thompson needs to play more PF not center, and he is not because of Love. Aminu or Harkless are better defenders off the bench than Jefferson or Jones. (Both are way past their prime) Throw in the money they would save, and yeah I think they are better. Love is not working in Cleveland.
They don't want the future, as evidenced by the fact that they traded Wiggins for Love. In hindsight, I think Cleveland would have had a better chance of beating Golden State with Wiggins.
Wiggins was by far the better choice and I argued that with many here when it happened. But that doesn't mean the Cav's don''t want a player they can develop at the same spot they are trading away. Right now they are paying for two starting PF's. Why not get one back that is young and cheap. He might be a steal in the long run. Like the Clips (and Detroit) now getting rid of Josh Smith, they just might be better off trading him to save money. They don't need CJ, they need a wing defender. (As you said....Wiggins)
